JULY WRESTLING DISCUSSION

What it is about Sting that makes his partners and friends turn on him so much? Besides being so gullible. Does he emit a foul and unpleasant odor? Is he a bad tipper? Slow driver? Does anyone have any theories other than Sting just being too damned trusting?

I'm eager to hear Punk tell us how much he enjoys playing Deer Hunter 2014 or the benefits of putting some T Plus in your cart.

You jest, but I actually think they do Big Buck Hunter tournaments in Chicago. I look forward to Punk talking about playing for money.

At least with Hogan, 9 times out of 10, they turned on him to get a title shot.  With Sting, it's just like "fuck it, it's Saturday and this Sting guy is rubbing me the wrong way.  I'll try to break his ribs".

Also, what about the time Sherri (I think it was Sherri) was publicly trying to choose between between Sting and someone like Flair, and they really tried to make it seem like she was going with Sting, only for her to attack Sting and cost him the match?  Even as a kid, I was like "Yeah Stinger, you should have seen that one coming..."

Did Tugboat actually turn on Hogan and wrestle him as Typhoon? I can't remember what caused the transformation between the two

He attacked Hogan during a SNME battle royal, then during Superstars, turned on the Bushwackers in a six man against Quake and the Nasties.  Next week, he was Typhoon and tagging with Quake.

Actually, that brings to mind another question: Has turning on someone ever backfired in a spectacular way? Like, say for example Sid was teaming with someone and that someone decides to turn on Sid, and Sid just fucks the guy up for being an idiot. Has that ever gone down? Seems like a good way to bury someone.

Didn't Typhoon explain his turn along the lines of "Hogan never thanked me for telling kids to send him cards while he was out?"

Ok, that brought another question to mind:

We know that at some point, Sting, Warrior, and Steamboat all worked heel, for ever how short.  Has there been anyone that worked in the top Territories/Classic Big 3/Modern Big 2 that only ever worked heel.  No face run for them, just straight heel for their entire career?

To be fair to Typhoon, most people that turned on Hogan before his Hollywood run's reasoning was "Hogan was an asshole to me"

Well Sting did beat the tar out of Flair at WW3 1995 (I feel so stupid typing that ppv name) so I'd say that portion of the turn didn't work out so well for Flair. However, it did lead to the reformation of the Horsemen and him getting the belt at Starrcade 95 so it wasn't all bad.

Yeah, the best part was that Sting was so genre-savvy by this point that he explicitly told Flair that if Flair used the pleas of the kid fans as a way to suck him in and turn on him, he would beat the crap out of Flair, and that he would only help Flair for the kids and not for Flair.

Sting's character becoming progressively more genre-savvy over the years (he sniffed out that Hogan and Bischoff would turn on Dixie early on and ended up being driven insane by how crappily-run TNA was and turning into nutbar Joker Sting as a result) is actually a pretty cool meta-aspect of the character.
