Dolfan in NYC
A co-worker just looked up, 9/21 is the last weekend home game, 1pm start. All but guaranteeing they'll do something for him. He just snatched up 4 tickets at $50 a pop on eBay. Those prices will quadruple by the end of the day, easily. Joe Lucia
Irony...Jeter's farewell tour begins in the same city Rivera's ended in - Houston. And the last regular season Yankees game this season is at Fenway. Oh.
RIPPA
Well that is presuming Jeter is still healthy at the end of the year
Hamhock
Yeah, I was going to say, "Pencil in May [DATE] as Jeter's last home game."
CSC
Great - another insufferable, season long Yankee farewell tour.
hammerva
AJ Burnett is signing with the Phillies I would have like to see Burnett stay in Pittsburgh but $16 million for a guy who might be their #3 pitcher and shaky in playoff games is a bit much. For maybe the first time the Pirates were actually smart in their cheapness
JRGoldman
So which team gives Jeter a commemorative gift basket during his farewell tour?

Nice Guy Eddie
Great - another insufferable, season long Yankee farewell tour. The Yankees didn't ask anybody to honor Mariano Rivera last year. That was the choice of the 29 other clubs. As a Yankee fan, I'd be fine if the other clubs chose to honor Derek Jeter or not. Knowing that it gets under the skin of non-Yankee fans does make it a little bit sweeter.
muhammedboehm
Any chance Jeter and Selig make it easy on every one and do there tours together?
Nice Guy Eddie
Any chance Jeter and Selig make it easy on every one and do there tours together? Don't besmirch Derek Jeter's good name by even suggesting that he have to share celebrating his career accomplishments w/ arguably the worst commisioner of the 4 major sports. Ryan
We'll trade you our Bud Selig statue and build one for Derek Jeter at Miller Park if you take it.

I wouldn't put it past Mr. Sleazy used car salesman to try to piggy back on Jeter's goodwill though.
TimLivingston
God. People act as if Betteman doesn't exist. I'm beyond stoked that Jeter's retiring, simply because that means Bud slides to the mid card.
BrianS81177
Much to absolutely nobody's surprise, Franklin Gutierrez has been placed on the restricted list and will not play at all in 2014. In other shocking news, Jesus Montero showed up to camp overweight.
EdA
God the Jeter retirement tour is soooooooo going to be loads of fun. First we have Richard Justice speculating Jeter may be the greatest of all time here. Now we have Albert Pujols...well... Pujols on Jeter: "On and off field, he's the way you want your kids to grow up, Only Jesus is perfect, but he's pretty close to that guy." God, this retirement tour is already balls out. Double thumbs up.
Tabe
First we have Richard Justice speculating Jeter may be the greatest of all time here. That's just so laughably stupid. Justice is giving Jeter waaaaaaay too much credit for being uncontroversial. He's also ignoring how Jeter undermined ARod from day one in NYC and refused to change positions, even though doing so would have improved the team. And, let's be real - on the field, Jeter couldn't carry the jocks of Ruth, Mantle, Gehrig, and JoeD. Great player and all that, but let's not get crazy here.
Joe Lucia
I said something about Jeter being so overrated that he's underrated. Yeah, never mind. He's a step away from beatification at this point in time.
