  1. This. After the Dolls blew up for good, everyone involved knew it was best to leave it alone since the personalities were never going to mesh. Plus, Johansen was too big at that point to slum with junkies. And by the later-part of the 80's no one in America wanted to deal with Thunders. He had spent most of the early-80's annoying and holding up/burning everyone who who booked him in America. And if he got gigs it was basically only a freak show deal of - Hey! Come see Thunders possibly die on stage! IF he shows. By the latter-part of the 80's Johnny mostly was living in Europe where he somehow had not burned all his bridges...yet. He was also always able to make a quick buck in Japan (it boggles my mind how Thunders survived in Japan with the habit he had). He'd come back to America mostly to con the unsuspecting and dig around for a new record deal. I mean, Jerry Nolan was his best friend and even he wouldn't be able to deal with Thunders for long periods of time. Tubi used to have Looking for Johnny available for streaming. Boy are the last 10 years of his life grim and seedy. It's highly recommended just to make you feel better about your own life. Kane cleaned up and converted to being a Mormon in 89, per his wiki page. Conversely the Arthur Kane movie, New York Doll, is just heartbreaking. (No pun intended?)
  2. That may require a tag team of Belichick and Urban Meyer actually.
  3. This is my shocked face.
  4. This. Pretty much this. Pearce seemed to be in a touch over his head but I mean...there was nothing around him to support him, there were no players. My guess is, since Pearce was not a hire by the Brady Grift Syndicate he was a dead man walking once Brady finally "bought in" (just going to assume that is a Jeter-like buy in to ownership where his own money is not at stake). Brady Grift Syndicate was always going to clean house/or talk Mark Davis into such. Whether Telesco at GM gets it to is a matter of who approved him before getting hired. Look, let's not kid ourselves with the - what coach would want this? OMG! The Raiderz R the Suck! jazz. It's one of the 30 most precious football jobs out there. Some kid would gladly take it since worst case, no one is going to blame him for failure. But they really need to get it right for once - meaning, no Dieon. But whatever happens, one draft and one good GM/coach is not going to fix things. For love of god, they are still paying for the sins of the Gruden 2.0/Mayock disaster.

    We Are The One

Oh you are not wrong at all. I read American Hardcore ages ago (the book is somewhere in some stack) and just now saw the doc a couple weeks ago. The book really is infinitely better. The footage is fine - the Bad Brains footage is spectacular. But the doc is pretty lazy. It is however one of the few times I've see Greg Ginn talk on anything. Sadly, no one calls him out for being Greg Ginn.
  7. In fairness I try not to talk to coworkers at work. I definitely do not talk to them when I am not at work.

Yes. Yes. Yes you should. Try Hex Induction Hour as a place to start too. Also, been meaning to bring this up - Tubi is streaming American Hardcore. I actually had not seen it somehow before catching it a week or so ago.

  11. Boy. Had to click the link to figure out who Burke is. Can Awful Announcing's site be any busier? It's like Mike Florio's website designer on coke.

    MLB OFFSEASON 2023

Don't forget that 51% fly ball rate. In the Great America Smallpark. That could get ugly early. At least with the Nick Martinez signing, the Reds get more of a ground ball guy. Not that I'd want him starting, but every team gobbling up pitchers so far have done some dicey things. I guess it's chic or something.

    MLB OFFSEASON 2023

Yeah. Maddon was on the path with the Cubs WS win. Then the Cubs run went sideways. No prob! Dusty's Chicago managerial run went up in flames too! A fella can rebound. The the Angels run happened and he now is just Billy Martin without the bar fights. Another run with a team he can turn around gets him into consideration. Like if he could make Colorado a non-sinkhole then he clearly would be John McGraw 2.0 like he seems to think he is. As to modern managers, I feel you're on the right track. It's probably going to completely come down to evaluating guys who have really long tenures - regardless of records - and tons of post-season appearances since even writers are starting to grasp the post-season is a crapshoot. That said, I sort of feel there will be a long stretch after the wave of Francona, Dusty, Bochy before we see a modern manager put in.
