JLowe
Also, want to note there were 3 matches. All were singles matches. Every singles belt was involved. Felt very sparse in some ways compared to some recent weeks with multiple trios and 8-man matches. One more thing I noticed is that most of the advertisements were for major national brands that you would see advertising on sports and regular drama/comedy shows.

username
I fell asleep during the opener, I just ain't built for 60 minute matches. (My sincerest held "controversial" wrestling opinion is that there isn't a single 60 minute match in wrestling history that wouldn't have been better at 40). I assume it was probably fine.

Phantom Lord
This was a very good episode of Dynamite. I didn't expect Osprey vs. MJF going almost an hour on the dot, but that was a hell of a match. Osprey is a pawn in this arc as the real story is MJF vs. Garcia and Danny is going to be Ricky The Dragon Steamboat coming back from the crushed throat in 87 when he comes back from the tombstone off the second rope. But yeah the match was great. Easily in my top five greatest AEW match ever. Mariah May coming out as TImeless Toni was so awesome and I loved how legit pissed Schiavone got when he was like "oh speak bitch". It just sucked that it wasn't a more receptive crowd as they were WHAT'ing her. Swerve vs. Okada was good up until the predictable ending. This might be the least interesting blood and guts build up, but at least Mark Briscoe is giving it his all for this. Cool to see Darby use the Sting entrance. You can expect Darby to do something crazy next week. Overall a very good episode.
DreamBroken
Loved MJF/Ospreay. Thought after the 2nd picture in picture, it was surely going 60 and was shocked by the last second finish and title change. Based off his win last week, I was wondering if this was setting up MJF/Pac at Wembley instead of going right to the Ospreay rematch. Rest of the show flew by quick. Main event and closing were awesome, great brawl to set up Blood & Guts. Darby's arrival was the best. Definitely feels like a hot streak with the last few shows and this one and then coming up on the Arlington Path to All In shows, Blood and Guts next week, Death Before Dishonor, there's a Battle of the Belts in there, new ROH tapings, etc. Looking forward to it all. Sex Machine Gun
Tony going batshit on commentary and saying it was the best Dynamite match ever bugged me. It was really freaking good but nothing's beaten Bryan/Kenny yet. MJF made Ospreay slow down and sell and it was great. Nothing was too insane although the crowd brawling segments felt like padding. I'm also not a fan of crowd brawling unless it's been made clear that it's no DQ or some other stip so I didn't like those bits to begin with. Everything else was fantastic and it didn't really drag at all. Considering I expected them to find a way to not have the match at all or run an angle instead this was an incredible outcome. Mariah May does Toni Storm better than Toni Storm every time. The crowd pissed me off during her promo but they came around by the end, chanting for Toni. Mercedes/Nyla was good, really suffered from following an hour long epic and a forgone conclusion. Big pop for Britt showing up, bigger reaction than anything in the preceding match. That was a relief because Mercedes was getting solid CEO chants against Nyla. Maybe a bunch of people from Oklahoma crossed the border to see Dynamite. I didn't pay much attention to the main as I got distracted and expected a fuck finish anyway. Darby's arrival at the end of the night was awesome, biiiig pop. Dude's a star. I popped for Hangman showing up, like an "awwwwww shit!" pop. Not excited for Blood and Guts, never been a fan of these 5v5 gorefests. I don't know how I feel about The Acclaimed being in it. Everyone else is on the appropriate level but them. They also haven't really established any actual stakes in this. What does the winner get? Is the loser punished? Will DraftKings let me bet on TK showing up near the end of the match to tip the scales for Team AEW?

The match needed some outside stakes, to make Hangman's deal with the devil so to speak even more diabolical. Hangman really needs to be forced to go full on traitor , or at least temporarily give up on his revenge.

Dolfan in NYC
So... here's my thing. MJF/Ospreay's first match (that you're giving away on free TV without any true build up) goes an hour. Cool. Great match, they're both terrific workers. I just don't know why you couldn't cut that match in half. By the end they're literally repeating spots for false finishes and building for what everyone expects will be a draw, but heel chicanery wins the day. I can already guess some people whose names rhyme with Mave Deltzer are go hog wild for it and give it 7 and 5/8 stars. I mean, I *liked* the match, but it's like eating too much ice cream. Nothing can follow it.

I agree with you they probably could have gotten it done in 30-40 minutes instead of 59:58 but I have to give them a lot of credit because there was a stretch around the 55-minute mark where they were both hit a 5th or 6th gear that I didn't think was possible after they had already wrestled for so long. Insane stamina from both men.

Nothing can follow it. Around the 33 minute mark, I was super into it and then it just became too much. Like you I really noticed the repeated spots. And after numerous brutal spots (poison ranas, Ospreay on the apron, the table spot, the figure fours) ending it on a loaded punch felt weak. MJF should have beat him clean to sow the seeds for a rematch down the line. I kinda thought Mariah's promo felt wrong. I don't know if it was the faux-Toni thing or the delivery but after such a hot angle, felt like a letdown. In Mick Foley's book, he tells a story about Vince booking him in an angle with Marc Mero to get him on the WM card and Foley responding something like "Well if that's all you have, I'd rather skip Wrestlemania". Well if I was Nyla Rose and THAT was the match they had to get me back on Dynamite, I would be paraphrased Foley there. Just a ludicrously booked match where Nyla seemed to spend more time fighting from underneath against someone, what, half/two=thirds her size?! And the ending where Mone slowly puts on the glove, pins Nyla down to give her Maker's finish and Nyla can only bite her before being bludgeoned and submitted?! Mone is like 90 lbs! Just stand up! At least they have a pre-existing feud with the Elite and are Day 1 guys which makes them stepping up to defend the honor of Tony Khan a little more believable. I guess Kenny's not ready yet, so someone has to fill in, but this is where you just call up an "ol' reliable" like Mox or Danielson. I also kind of agree that the build up is an afterthought. Very WWE-like "well this match happens at this time of year, so here it is." I kinda get the feeling it was supposed to be Kenny in there with the match being for all the EVP power, but he's not ready and so they're kicking the can down the road. MJF/Ospreay was pretty cool because they filled 59 minutes well while still making it seem like they have even more available for a re-match. The diving hidden blade spot was top notch, and the false draw finish was a great play too.
The Green Meanie
The opening match was definitely a MOTYC. The crowd's reaction was very interesting to me; the dead silence wasn't out of being stunned that MJF won but it seemed rather that they were confused that there was a winner. You could see several people pointing at the clock on the Tron. At home, on TV, it looked like MJF got in before the time expired, I'm wondering if they saw the same thing. I like SPICY TONY. Luther tried to warn us the whole time about Mariah. I didn't get her promo at all. She didn't go with the "you people never appreciated me" angle (which was going to be my guess) but she also didn't really give a reason why she did what she did. Tazz with the call of the night: "We're in Arkansas, so it takes them a while to get things." Also, I had to teach my wife a very important wrestling rule tonight: if there's a backstage segment, there HAS TO BE a pile/stack of metal pipes and it's required that they HAVE TO make the clanging noise.
Gordi the recovering AEW f
I am gaining SO MUCH respect for Will Ospreay. He put both Swerve and MJF over huge, in ways that make them look great. Guys who made a name on the indies and became well known stars in AEW. That is the SPIRIT of being a Bret guy. Certain dudes are good at Bret cosplay and talking about putting dudes over. But guys like Ospreay and Bryan and Eddie Kingston are keeping the true spirit of Bret alive by actually doing clean jobs in the ring when it serves to do so. THAT is how you enter the Best in the World conversation in my mind. Not by winning every match and refusing to return any favours. (i.e an HBK guy). The REALLY great ones can lose a match and make the other wrestler look great while never losing an ounce of credibility or the support of the fans. I am VERY pleasantly surprised to be including Will Ospreay in the conversation with all-time favourites like Bret, Bryan and Eddie (and Terry Funk...) but he has absolutely earned it! 14

It kind of speaks volumes about how valuable AEW considers ROH when Briscoe has allied with Team AEW to take down the power-mad EVPs who have used their influence and pull to get the Tag Titles, the TNT Title, and the Continental Title, and the EVPs haven't even bothered to try to screw Briscoe out of his ROH Title. I wanted to point out during the episode when Hangman joined, there was a bit of a misunderstanding on my part. Hangman said "I'll do it" to The Bucks. I didn't take that as he was joining Team Elite, but rather that he was going to go rogue and take matters into his own hands and do something terrible to Swerve whilst he's on his jealousy/revenge tour. I was asking "who's going to be the 5th man?" right before they showed the graphic with Hangman in it, then I went "When did they announce that? Oh wait..." It wasn't expressed very clearly. The Natural
Bobbed onto cagematch as I sometimes need to use it and MJF/Ospreay has split opinion, it's on 7.03 rating. Long matches especially those going close to 60, the full 60 and over, are hard to pull off. It's how the time is used. Ricky Steamboat vs. Ric Flair at NWA Clash of the Champions VI, Kenny Omega vs. Kazuchika Okada at NJPW Dominion 2018 Bryan Danielson vs. MJF at AEW Revolution 2023, Bryan Danielson vs. Hangman Adam Page at AEW Winter is Coming Dynamite 2021 and Samoa Joe vs. CM Punk at ROH: Joe vs. Punk II are the best ones. On the other hand some feel the time and even longer, Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels at WWE Bad Blood 2004 and Bullet Club vs. United Empire at NJPW The New Beginning in Osaka 2024 needed trimming down. Trying to do epics and falling short. Will Ospreay vs. MJF is not the best match in AEW history. It's still Kenny Omega vs. Bryan Danielson at AEW Grand Slam Dynamite 2021.
