The Wall Street Journal Vince McMahon Thread.

Message added by jaedmc,

It's a gross story, don't stare too deeply into the abyss or it will stare back.

Also be adults and don't make us ban you.

Let's make sure not fall down the rabbit hole of "who did something on TV and how does it reflect their own kink/deviancy/personality."

I know the lines in wrestling and reality can be very blurred, and the Vince stuff has opened up this door of reinterpreting events as possible veiled sexual exhibitionisms. And I imagine some of it is probably true. But sometimes people do stuff on TV because they're performers and that's what they were paid to do. And sometimes people are fired because they suck at their job. No need to invent victims.

Famously, Baby Doll and Sam Houston.

From Arn's food story on one of his first eps of his podcast, it sounds like more about bullying/agency with a bit of chauvinism thrown in than OMG I can't believe you're dating this jobber.

1. Only in pro wrestling can you order someone's girlfriend/wife to go get the boys (all main eventers as Arn pointed out) food late at night and then you be upset that said boyfriend/husband stopped them from basically running your errand. It had to be someone they're not afraid of like skin and bones Sam cause in any other line of sports or sports adjacent work, that's you picking some of your teeth off of the ground afterwards.

2. I am pretty sure all the guys Arn listed were married so if you're going to do some extramarital stuff when you're already on TV strutting around with some Amazon blonde lady, you probably want to keep that hush hush.

There are plenty (PLENTY!) of stories where people hook up in and outside WWF/E for various reasons but I think the discussion relevant to Vince is them legit trying to play matchmaker or turn you into an escort for the boys. That's different from regular wrestling politics.

And Nicola wasn’t just a random rat that Sam picked up at a house show, she was a second generation wrestler who guys likely knew either from Lubbock when he dad was the local promoter or from her time in Dallas being with Gino, Chris and Jake (aka Sam’s brother).

id be curious to hear a history of the Hart sisters ended up with their partner/husband and whether Stu/Helen tried to keep them away from the boys like Leroy McGuirk tried to do with Mike (see story about her dating DiBiase).

I was thinking about this earlier. Suppose Triple H, Nick Khan, and Bruce Pritchard are forced out because of all this. Especially Triple H's role of head of creative, who would take over for him?

The true effectiveness of Jerry McDevitt is revealed when a transfer of power document for Jerry Jarrett circa 1994 is revealed to be still legally binding and all further creative meetings are just Dewey Foley working an ouija board.

THE PRIDE AND JOY OF WALLS, MISSISSIPPI

I heard they're getting their first stoplight next week. Good for them.

Or until someone digs up the insane racist promos he used to do in Memphis.

About 14 minutes in and it goes on from there. It's fucking bonkers even in 1986.

Young Rock's worst historical inaccuracy was having "loveable comedic side character Bruno" not being one of those , "I'm not a racist, so I'm allowed to say racist shit" guys.
In Foley's first book there's a great story about Brickhouse Brown getting so fed up with Bruno's racist jokes that he ribbed him by pretending he was gonna blow his brains out because Brickhouse was fed up.

Miro only wanting to be involved in angles where other dudes are allegedly fucking his wife gives new meaning to CJ being his “hot wife”

Hold up. Granted, I wasn’t paying SUPER close attention that Miro/CJ angle, but I’m pretty sure the point wasn’t that she was fucking all those guys.

Yeah, this time it was pretty clear CJ was hoping to have her own success as a wrestling manager and trying to find the best athletes to manage and make her own name. She wasn't looking for new male suitors here. At least how I understood that story, anyway.

We're deep in pro wrestling triple carny "everything's a work" land where I'm seeing people online who were upset on Friday on the Rock/Cody thing, going through weird stages of grief where they first buy into the logic that it was Rock making a power play through the board because of the injuries and the Vince situation and then moving on to the notion that this is all one big work to create a groundswell to distract everyone and make Rock into the sort of fake villain that the company would rather you focus on than Vince's real horrific acts.

Rocky has a soft spot for Bruno because he used to watch over him as a kid and bought him his first car or something; it's in the Pacific episode of the Territories show.

CJ really did deserve to move on, because Miro is a proven loser alongside his "women stay in the kitchen" neanderthal opinions. Meanwhile, of course, in real life both of them have been left in catering while Coach Tony is playing with other newer shinier toys. At least move the story over to ROH whydontcha.

Any opinions on these other issues are as relevant and true as that crappy story I typed up in the weekly thread. If it ain't news it don't matter.

Perry has been out with some kind of skin infection that required an operation, and her only managerial charge, Andrade, left the company.  So I can see how their angle is on hold.  There are absolutely times we can be critical of TK, but this isn’t one of them.

CJ had an infection that turned into MRSA where she nearly lost her finger or worse. Miro has been at home with her while she heals up.

Okay, nevermind then. And yeah I didn't even think about Andrade. There is no real point in even putting Miro on TV until you can go back to work on the angle, too, so he can stay in the gym.

EDIT: Ooof. I wasn't gonna ask, sounded gross, but that's more than. FUCK I saw that even! Maybe my mind blocked it out on purpose.

The talk about UWF and DiBiase in the "not from the now" thread reminded me that he was brought in under the auspices that he was gonna have the gimmick that Vince would have taken for himself, the Million Dollar Man. And what was his catchphrase?

Everybody has a price.

*shudder*

What were the first few times in wrestling where it was suggested that the female valet or manager was banging her rassler? I know male managers straight up said it all the time, but they weren’t talking about their wrestler unless you count the times it happened in women’s wrestling. I didn’t notice it until ECW but of course I was young.

I dunno, Rocky Johnson's statutory rape charge and multiple similar accusations being glossed over as "took bookings in Saudi Arabia for a rival promoter" is hard to beat.

Consider that a valet was often the workers real life girlfriend or wife, probably since the beginning of then. The Sheik’s wife Joyce was his valet back in the day, maybe in the 50s.

Mainstream journalists still seem to be sniffing around the Vince stuff, so there’s really no way this will help. Doesn’t make much sense.

Feels like there'll be a bit of a lull in the action for journalism before everything gets overshadowed by Presidential election coverage.

The period between when there's presumptive nominees and the conventions might be a bit of a void for anything that would get buried under other news in September. This year might be one of the longer voids during a Presidential election year in awhile (when you consider most of the 2020 void was just all Covid news until Memorial Day)
