Dolfan in NYC Posted October 16 Posted October 16 All last summer, in case you don't recall... I was yours and you were mine, forget it all... Well (IN THEORY) Bryan Danielson's career* is over. (* - Full time(?)) As he put over that new up and coming star Jon Moxley who is now a four-time AEW Champion! Bravo to him! More importantly though, to break up the BCC's celebration after the match, out came Darby Allin (who probably should have been the one to beat BD) and Wheeler Yuta (who is a good, upstanding citizen and FRIEND OF BRYAN!). Let's see how the save went... Is there a line that I could write, that's sad enough to make you cry? And all the lines you wrote to me were lies... ...well shoot. Anyway, we got some actual good news at WrestleDream! Whispers at the bus stop, well, I've heard about nights out in the school yard... I found out about you. I found out about you! It's the three words EVERY AEW FAN WANTS TO HEAR!!!! Spoiler Hell yeah! (Ah this takes me back to running to Chemistry class after I overslept. The 90s ruled.) Enjoy the week. 4 1
The Green Meanie Posted October 16 Posted October 16 A couple of things - Are they still the BCC? They really haven't mentioned any other name for this group since this whole thing started, but BCC references have been removed from entrance videos. Will we ever get an explanation as to why they let Pac work with them? I get him wanting to work with them (initially) because he wanted the Trios belts again, but given his past flakiness with the group I'm puzzled that it hasn't been brought up already in some way. I'm not fully convinced this was a full-blown turn by Yuta. It seemed to be more of a mercy killing, similar to Mox having to be the one to retire him, if anyone was going to bag him it would have to have been Yuta. Apparently it's been revealed the whole BCC storyline has been written by RJ City. Bravo! Elsewhere - I saw that Adam Cole came back. There was no reference to the Undisputed Kingdom during his return? Is he still the leader? Also, did everyone forget that he screwed MJF and is the bad guy, not the other way around? MJF getting his full comeuppance on them HAS TO happen, the whole story will be for naught if they don't correct all this. 2
The Natural Posted October 16 Posted October 16 Looking forward to Christian Cage vs. Jay White and Shelton Benjamin vs. Lio Rush. 4

In NO way putting RJ down, just the opposite, but I'm surprised this is such great quality only because there's an ad for his old vlog that constantly plays on Fight Network where he talks about sort of not getting the idea of someone wanting to be a booker, and it's usually someone who doesn't/can't wrestle kind of "playing with toys" and that sort of thing - so in the end, I'm super thankful he was able to find the right headspace to contribute this story to TV because I've really, really enjoyed it so far. We often talk about the idea of the "buffet" but this is probably my favorite flavor of dish if I had to pick one (in a tonal sense) 1
For Great Justice Posted October 16 Posted October 16 It was very herky-jerky getting here due to a variety of reasons (most likely a change in Danielson’s health prognosis the main one), but regardless, we are here now. This feels like the start of a new season. All heel champions, dominant heel stable, clear battle lines drawn in the sand and a storyline that should, in macro, tie everything together. Here’s to hoping for the best. 3 1

Non kayfabe: Death Triangle was going to win the Trios belts at Wembley but then the Lucha Bros decided to leave. Kayfabe: no idea 1

This doesn't have to be rocket science. I think that would work if we didn't already have Pac abandoning the BCC during Blood & Guts last year (or was it two years ago?). But given that history, I would think the BCC would need a somewhat stronger motivation than that to let him in. 1
HarryArchieGus Posted October 16 Posted October 16 Quote * AEW TBS Championship: Mercedes Mone (c) vs. Queen Aminata * Shelton Benjamin vs. Lio Rush * Jay White vs. Christian Cage * The Elite (The Young Bucks & Kazuchika Okada) vs. The Conglomoration (Kyle O’Reilly, Orange Cassidy & Rocky Romero) * FTR vs. Big Bill & Bryan Keith * Adam Cole returns * We’ll hear from Jon Moxley I really like the chances of Aminata upsetting Mercedes, and I, maybe alone, am super stoked to see how these two match up. I sense Mone wants to see the Queen succeed. I hope so. Aminata has been ready for awhile now. She has some great offense and a solid all around game. Mercedes is a goddamn bump machine! I love her work even if you don't. I wonder if we agree on 'what a fucking awesome line-up!' 3
Go2Sleep Posted October 16 Posted October 16 That 6-man is so late 90s/early 2000s AJ/NOAH. Can't wait for the cold tag to Romero. Shelton/Lio should be a fun semi-squash.
NoFistsJustFlips Posted October 16 Posted October 16 Unpopular opinion: I am bored to death by The Conglomeration. Separately I like everyone. Especially Willow & Beiscoe. But smashing them all together with no real purpose and giving them sooooo much tv time is a big nope for me. 1
Matt D Posted October 16 Posted October 16 If the next week of shows go well, I think there’s real reason to be optimistic about AEW. 7
For Great Justice Posted October 17 Posted October 17 (edited) My god that superkick Shelton put on Lio immediately goes on the Mt Rushmore of superkicks. Fatality! Like in a 1,000 match Monte Carlo simulation of this match that’s the best executed one of the bunch. Benjamin looked great. He’s also a great example of “WWE small”. I know he was in there with Lio, but that dude is huge! Edited October 17 by For Great Justice 7
Casey Posted October 17 Posted October 17 alright, I guess I’m back to being all in on AEW. That was a good fuckin’ show. And I don’t hate the Mox stuff near as much now. I’m gonna need to see some heels come together with the faces to fight the BCC though. 5 minutes ago, For Great Justice said: Benjamin looked great. He’s also a great example of “WWE small”. hammerva Posted October 17 Posted October 17 So am I the only one who unfortunately thinks Jericho is winning the ROH title next week. Should have been a one and done 1
Nice Guy Eddie Posted October 17 Posted October 17 I liked the unpredictable nature of the BCC's attacks. It very much has an early nWo vibe to it. I also like that the faces like Private Party and Daniel Garcia are starting to band together. I definitely see the Elite getting dragged into things when the Young Bucks have had enough of watching what they helped build get destroyed while that shitbag Jack Perry leans toward Moxley's side. I think this leads to Kenny Omega coming back to side with the Bucks and Okada and take the title off Moxley. 1

It should be Darby, and that feels like the direction they’re headed towards. Omega becoming a Quadruple Crown Champion and beating Jack Perry for the TNT title, though? Yeah sign me up. 1

WebConn89 Posted October 17 Posted October 17 (edited) I’m intrigued by what’s going on in AEW they were in a bit of a lull period but this was a really good show tonight. Moxley and his crew declaring war on the rest of the roster and everyone having to band together to fight back against the hostile takeover is gonna be a fun watch to see how it all unfolds. The Elite standing by like chicken shits as everyone else getting their asses kicked reminding me of when Lawler RVD and Sabu ravaged the ECW locker room as Shane Douglas just stood by and let it happen. I did fast forward during the Callis Family press conference but other than that I liked the rest of the show. I hope Lashley shows up at Fright Night. Stupid Hulu Live DVR didnt record the overrun so I didn’t get to see all of the Main Event and it was just getting good well looks like imma have to record the show after Dynamite on the west coast feed to see the end so I’ll let ya’ll know how that went tomorrow. Cliff Hanger Posted October 17 Posted October 17 I was expecting Rocky to get butchered to send him back to Japan for the tag tourney. Someone elsewhere suggested that if Shane McMahon actually does become an on-air character (and for the record, I think he never will) the only appropriate use for him would be as a Son of the Patriarchy, and now I'm going to be vaguely disappointed every time Christian wins without him popping up. Good match, Hangman looked incredibly creepy (complimentary) when he slid out. Also, I have probably said this before but it's hilarious that Christian has used knock-offs of "My Last Breath" across 3 different wrestling promotions for over a decade after Evanescence stopped being relevant. Queen Aminata is still better than her booking. I did not consent to see raw offal (or an approximation thereof) in my wrestling show, but Kenny is going to tune Perry up when the day comes. I quite like that the BCC's vendetta against goofballs is causing the goofballs to unionize and get serious. I hope this doesn't just lead to them all getting slaughtered again. So I guess the Callis Family is now Takeshita, B. Cage, O'Reilly and Archer with Rush traded away, Mark Davis still not healthy a year after getting his hand destroyed, Trent more or less forgotten after the Orange feud, and Hobbs cleared but not booked? This was a lot of fun. Still needs more women, it's still reeling from what feels like big booking changes as Danielson's victory lap got cut short, and I'd have liked to see some lucha. But a lot of fun. 1
tbarrie Posted October 17 Posted October 17 Apropos of nothing, am I the only one who sees this thread title and thinks Dolfan is referencing the Ghostbusters II rap? And not... whatever he is referencing? 1
Zimbra Posted October 17 Posted October 17 I think starting with Cole was a mistake. You can't tell me it's a new era in AEW then immediately give me Cole doing the same poses to the same song and cutting the same promo. Start with the six-man then have the specter of the nu-BCC hanging over rest of the show. Writing off the Undisputed Kingdom in half a bar was pretty cold blooded. 3
southofheavy Posted October 17 Posted October 17 5 minutes ago, Zimbra said: I think starting with Cole was a mistake. Yyyyyyyup. That Moxley vignette/promo should've happened in the ring in front of the audience. I know, let it play out, but this episode left me cold. 1
Go2Sleep Posted October 17 Posted October 17 The nu-BBC stuff was pretty good, but it kind of overshadowed everything else on the show. Even though there was a lot of good work, everything else felt too low-stakes. The Elite tie-in was a step in the right direction. Mercedes/Aminata was a good match and felt more "vintage Mercedes" than most of her AEW work so far. Shelton/Lio was great as expected. Lio is really underappreciated for the way he plays up the size difference in most of his matches. He makes everything close quarters look like a struggle, is athletic enough to do lots of cool-looking quick-strike offense that looks credible, and of course, bumps as well as anyone in the non-Darby division. Shelton hasn't lost a step and his superkick is the new sheriff in town. Shelton/Swerve should be a banger before Lashley wrecks shit. This BOTB might be the most afterthought one yet, and that's a high bar. First mention is a 2-second plug at the very end of the show announcing a non-title match lol. 1
