  4. Getting back to "they don't know why Austin and Rock worked" I think it's at least partially true. They don't get that Rock could get away with horrible, stupid lines because Dwayne Johnson might literally be the most charismatic man on Earth. So they give guys who simply aren't The Rock similar lines and it bombs (and now sanitized versions of those lines) They get that Austin was the rebel fighting his boss, but they don't get that AUSTIN ALWAYS WON. Okay, not actually always, but way more often than not. When the heels got heat on him, it worked because it didn't happen every week. He outsmarted Vince nearly every week. And they had Vince be the one getting embarrassed every week, not the actual wrestlers. To use an example from one of the two episodes of RAW I've watched in the last three months: Seth claims AOP isn't backing him up. KO is positive he's lying. Rey offers to help Owens, KO says no. Rey gives him a lead pipe to use as a weapon. Fast forward an hour or so, KO is looking for Seth. It's a setup, of course. In 1998, Steve Austin would've whipped Akam and Razer's asses, stunned Vince and drank beer while Rollins ran for his life. KO got beat up three on one, looked like a moron for turning down help and not accounting for the muscle he knew Seth had. Nobody got over.

  12. I disagree, brother. Pivoting to Shida is the way to go even if Riho were better than her by a bit because she's there every week. Riho is a good underdog who has a solid connection with the crowd. Shida isn't that but I think she's more capable and able to do a wider variety of matches.

  13. I still think Shida would have been a better choice as champion. I thought that then and still think it now.

  15. I know this will come as an "OK boomer" comment but there needs to be a rule where you have to celebrate within 20 yards of the line of scrimmage. The team turnover celebrations don't necessarily bother me it is the running 60 yards down the ring to go near the end zone that pisses me off

  17. Since you probably don't watch much Puerto Rican wrestling aside from the 80's set, here's some goods: Carlos Colón isn't afraid to bleed and the Texas Hangmen which you should all love. Not exactly Onita & Goto vs. Kurisu & Dragon Master, but a heated brawl in Puerto Rico feat. more Texas Hangmen. You know neither of these folks are afraid to bleed, plus a clever finish. Not a MOTYC or any of that stuff, but it's the Samoan Swat Team in front of a heated Puerto Rican crowd against 2 big fan favorites.

  22. Beyond Championship Wrestling (which is Beyond Wrestling rebranding since they're finally crowning their first champion March 1st, on the TV pilot) have shown the plates of the belt on twitter. Can't link from phone, but there's a seahorse, a Pegasus and a Gryphon on there. Because when you're World champion, you're champion of Land, Sea and Air. They have not yet revealed the strap, so it might possibly be pink and green tiger striped leather. But probably black or white, most likely.

  25. The bigger problem right now with the "how do you rebuild Roman Reigns" thing is that WWE, like any other wrestling promotion, doesn't truly realize the ultimate issue to save the wrestling product flies in the face of every entertainment business manifesto: Sometimes, you just have to let someone walk away. Whether it's an excursion, whether it's firing them, letting them show up in some other promotion and get fans excited about them, then see what happens later, whether it's "how can the fans miss you if you won't go away? So...uh...GO AWAY!", or even if it's "you're a failed experiment, we need to give the roster an enema. We don't really care. Go to AEW or New Japan- go be their problem, but we're better off without you"- sometimes, to make a bigger star, it's not even about "turn them face!" or "turn them heel!" , but as serious as 'you have to let them walk away." Drew McIntyre's success right now should be seen as the best example of that. McIntyre was always pretty good, but never quite clicked as a big prospect. He was a failed experiment, he tumbled down the card. No one wanted him as a heel, they barely bought it trying to make him flirt with a face turn in the Kelly Kelly stuff, they didn't totally buy in when he did comedy...and ultimately, the best thing WWE could do was to fire him, let him walk away. He gives the WWE audience the chance to miss him, he gives the smarks the chance to see just how good he was outside the company. He comes back, he's put it all together, and now it seems like it's finally taken.

  26. FUCK YEAH. Full Moon was my a massive part of my VHS childhood. The first 3 Puppet Masters are worth a look. The third one is where the Puppets stop being bad guys and start killing Nazis. After that...you're on your own. You should also hit up Demonic Toys and Dollman vs. Demonic Toys. I guess you could/should fit in Dollman, but when I was a kid I'd already scene so much Making Of material on it from the Full Moon Studios featurettes that it wasn't necessary. There's also the Doctor Mordrid and the Subspecies movies. After somewhere around 1996/97, they started cutting even more corners. They went from standard B movies to "oh I think they ran out of film and just stopped" movies. I certainly wouldn't use "Retro Puppetmaster" as a reference to what the early Full Moon days were.

  27. They'll never get Reigns right because they don't know what made Austin or The Rock work. I doubt we see significant change until Vince passes away. He won't walk away. He guided WWE to its height but now can't maintain it. I suppose there's a certain Shakespearean quality to that but that's entertainment.

  30. Them thinking Seth could be one of the biggest stars is one of their problems. Especially when they had Dean Ambrose under contract. The selection process for "top guy" is completely flawed. They've got Big E doing comedy for the fifth year in a row when he might be the most charismatic guy in the company. The New Day is great, but every one of those guys could be doing more. Someone mentioned Ziggler. That guy should be a HUGE star, instead of going through the motions whenever a top heel needs a lackey. Zack Ryder was never gonna be Hulk Hogan, but there's no reason he couldn't be prime Tito Santana. Rusev Day is another GREAT example. Sure, they got Daniel Bryan right, but only after their shows were hijacked by fans for six months. There's no reason to expect different. They're gonna put the Smackdown belt on Roman, and it's gonna get a better reaction than any other time he's won the title, and Vince is gonna interpret that as "goddamn, pal, I told you." And they're gonna start sending him out there doing his "Samoan Cena" act he was doing that the fans weren't buying. The problem now is that they can't reform the Shield to take the heat off of Roman. That whole angle was as egregious an act of "fuck our customers and what they think" as I've ever seen. Strowman is getting huge reactions, but instead of taking advantage of the hottest babyface they'd had in a couple years, they go out of their way to cool off Ambrose and Rollins, and kill off Strowman, derail McIntyre, and, well, Ziggler didn't have anything going, so he was fine, but you're ostensibly killing off four top guys so the fans feel conflicted about booing Reigns. It's fucking brutal. And I think the over-reliance on Lesnar may finally be what deals a serious, undeniable blow to their profits. Just about everyone I know that watched before the Lesnar return has stopped, due to it being "the same shit." My one complaint about the tv show "The Office" is that it feels like sometimes the writers punish you for caring about the characters. "Oh, you want Andy to have a redeemable character arc? Fuck you, here's a boat." Nobody makes you feel like an idiot for investing in characters emotionally than WWE.

  35. I think one of the biggest mistakes was not going with Roman winning at Wrestlemania 31. The one long term plan they had they abandon at the last second. Relying on older stars to promote shows in lieu of younger guys. No one is special. Hell, not numbering Wrestlemania reportedly because Vince feels it makes it sound old. Meanwhile other sports stake their prestige on the history behind everything.

  36. A good match is a good match. See the death match thread. If I like Chamber of Horrors when I watch it I’ll be proud to like it. Raven vs The Pitbulls Terry Funk and Stevie Richards vs Cactus Jack and Raven That whole series of events from Starrcade 91 involving Abdullah the Butcher that spanned over a few matches Wow I better be careful before I give away how much fun Abdullah the Butcher in WCW was for that 1 year

  37. To me, their biggest issue is that there are just too many people having a say backstage. When there is an entire team of writers they are all going to want to get there stuff on TV, crowd reactions and natural progression be damned. Look at the points on something as simple as Cesaro with Heyman. - Cesaro turns his back on Swagger/Dutch because he sees what Heyman has done for Brock and believes he should be at that level. - We get Swagger v Cesaro for a month or two before Swagger gets some back up. - Brock returns (at Heyman's request) and we get Cesaro/Lesnar v Swagger/xxx - Natural progression would have Cesaro outshining Brock in their appearances together before Brock finally snaps and beats him down. - Now we are setup for Cesaro v Lesnar. - Even if Lesnar goes over, you have still built up a credible upper midcard/main event option for future events. It's these "missed chances" that really get under people's skin. How does Rusev Day not get a decent run with the tag titles? Why split them up? What has either party done since that was better than keeping them all together? Zack Ryder gets the "outta nowhere" IC title win at Mania what was the point other than a "WrestleMania Moment" which ultimately looks stupid in hindsight. I'm more then happy catching TV highlights on YouTube and watching PPVs on the Network.
