Nah, the hairdo was popular in the early 2ks (c.f. Tina Fey doing Weekend Update for another example)  It's been making a comeback after the super-long hair trend of the past few years.

I believe you're all talking about the Dido Flip, which is a hairstyle that I learned about last night when I googled Dido after hearing the Roswell theme and falling into a nostalgia well.

Is there documentation connecting TLJ and Final Fantasy 8? I'd find such a thing amusing to read.

You are going to create a nerd singularity that will kill us all.

Also, she has the same hair as Liz Lemon in the "Dealbreakers" episode of 30 Rock.

They probably would’ve been terrible movies, but I think I might rather watch George let his freak flag fly one last time than Disney remaking his old stories.

My only issue is how a lot of the reaction is SEE! STAR WARS IS DEAD!!! TOO MANY WOMEN!!!!

And none of this ancillary movies had been confirmed. Most were “early talks” so the fact that they weren’t coming out anytime soon isn’t that big of a shock but whatever. Clearly it’s my fault for seeing all the movies in the theater.

Rather than a self-realisation of "OMG NERD CULTURE IS ACTUALLY AWFUL!"

A bunch of sweaty nerds are crowdfunding money to remake The Last Jedi the "right" way and I think I'd rather see Lucas' Osmosis Skywalker movie get made.

See, I see that, and now I just want Disney to keep churning out SW movies regardless of quality until the franchise is as barren as the Sahara.

I haven't seen Solo yet, but I never thought it was a good idea. If pulling back on those standalone movies allows them to better assess what will make for good content, as opposed to a needless cash grab, then I'm all for it.

And the Last Jedi is still awesome. Even with the casino scene and the chase scene.

It's funny to see the "TLJ ruined my childhood" corners of the fandom taking a victory lap regarding this news, since it's the fanwank nostalgia pieces on the chopping block, while Rian Johnson's getting a whole 'nother trilogy to play with. It's, uh... the last thing they should want, but probably for the best, if we consider that: 1) stories should tell us things we don't know; 2) fuck those guys.

(That said, as someone who would see any Star Wars anything until I'm dead, I kinda want more, even if that's wrong.)

The reason I hate TLJ has nothing to do with the casino or racial make up of the cast. It was the fact it was a poor remake of ESB while at the same time showing the contempt Johnson has for the continuity of the franchise. I went into this ad nausem in the TLJ thread, so need to repeat myself, but a well made turd sandwich is still a turd sandich.

If that news is true I'm mostly just disappointed about the Fett film. I enjoyed Solo and wouldn't mind stuff going more into Crimson Dawn, but I still think they would have been better off leaving that alone.

i will be disappointed if Johnson's trilogy is affected. TLJ is one of my favorite SW films.

Was the Obi wan film going to be an origin story type or just an adventure with Ewan? Because the prequels were covered Obi Wan's orgins pretty good.

I don't know if it was ever confirmed, but the general assumption was it would be an adventure related to his time on Tatooine, possibly protecting a child Luke from afar.

I'm so sick of this line about 'poor remake' or 'ripoff' being trotted out about these new films when all they've done is follow Lucas' blueprint:

As for contempt for the continuity of the franchise? Fuck that. This is it, this is the end of the Skywalker story. If anything Rian Johnson should be applauded for taking the shackles off and jettisoning the circle-jerk fanboy appeasement everyone seems to clamour for.

Anyway, all this talk of the casino scene and spinoffs has reminded me that the only spinoff I have any interest in seeing is one starring Master Codebreaker

I really don't get why people are so shook over TLJ when this is a franchise with shit like the prequels in it. Get over yourselves. Fucking dorks.

So what part of TLJ WASN'T  a piss poor copy of ESB? Long space chase? Check. Long training sequence featuring a cynical old master? Check. Battle scene on a white planet? Check.  The only thing different was killing off almost the entire cast of good guys, gee what "genius". Frankly I wouldn't be surprised at Episode IX having the First Order killing off all the heroes and ruling the galaxy. Don't understand why giving fans what they want is considered a bad thing, especailly when the alternative is these lazy movies. Say what you want about the Prequels,  but they had better plots than 7 and 8.  Scripts and execution? No, but better ideas.

Oh I completely get the point, and silly gifs don't make mine less valid. Johnson "took the shackles off" alright, just like Brett Ratner did for the X men franchise. . .
