Brian Fowler
As I said on Facebook, I admire their chutzpah to stick to that cover story.
Brian Fowler
However, my actual biggest complaint about the film is Inky the Mind Reading Squid thing. We never see him verify Bhodi's story, he's never mentioned again, and Bhodi doesn't appear to have lost his mind for more than a few minutes, tops. It's just weird and feels like it's vestigial from an earlier draft or something. I didn't even think about it until a few days later though, so I guess not that big of a deal
Niners Fan in CT
I had thought it was just there to show how far off the deep end Saw is but I did find it odd that he appears to have lost his mind only to regain it moments later
steve
It seemed weird to me at the time too. But, I think they were going for the idea that it would mess you up if it had to extract the truth, but since Bhodi was honest to begin with he came through relatively OK. They didn't explain it very clearly in any case.

_MJ_
Does Vader sense Leia's force aura or whatever in that scene above though? Step your game up, Vader.

TheVileOne
It's just sort of how clunky and disjointed the first act is and heavy reshoots.
Brian Fowler
Yeah. There's a few issues (the fact that Jyn literally has two "emotionally devastating loss of her father (figure)" moments within less than a half hour is pretty bad.) But the squid is so fucking weird that it just sticks out, because it's just... What? Why? What?
Brian Fowler
And I really liked the movie. The last hour or so is incredible.
MonteCarl
That Vader/Leia image is my one big complaint about the movie. Doesn't exactly tie up with that next scene in ANH, unless you cover it by saying Leia was just being difficult and they both know exactly what's up. Well, that and C3PO and R2D2's cameo. Makes no sense for them to be at the rebel base on Yavin-4 as everybody is flying off to fight the battle, and then they somehow end up on Leia's ship. Unless Leia was also on Yavin, but it seemed to be implied that she wasn't when Bail was talking about getting someone he trusted. Made it sound like she was still back on Alderaan. There's an argument to be made that Vader might not be fully developed. In this movie he's still a little bit Ani. Making puns. Cutting people down instead of playing with a "less is more" style, like you see from him in the original trilogy (even though everyone is drooling over hyper-violent Vader). I could see that Vader just screwing around with Leia because he gets his kicks from that.

Wasn't Bail Organa at the base? They are his droids, why wouldn't they be there if he is?

I think the issue is more so that they're on the base when continuity says they should be on Admiral Not-Ackbar's ship to get the plans from Leia. I mostly liked it, at the least it was a decent little adventure movie. It felt a little disjointed, but I liked all the pieces even if they didn't quite fit together. The only thing I didn't really care for was Donnie Yen's character, who seemed like he was from a differnet movie.
Reed
In hindsight, it's nice that Rogue One ended like it did. “What is it they have sent us?” *Leia looking as bad ass and determined as ever* “Hope.” A poignant note to end the movie on.

Spritenaut 32
Finally saw the film yesterday. Didn't think it was a particularly good script, but, damn, it was fun. The extended battle finale was bonkers.

Given Vader's general mood from the battle until he got Leia back to the DS, it's not likely Raddus left that ship breathing and/or in one peice. RIPPA
I am not reading the whole thread because you people are not going to ruin the movie for me Anyway - it makes sense that R2D2 and C3PO are there because they are owned by Raymus Antilles (not Wedge as some people still think) and you hear Raymus Antilles name over the loud speaker during the chaos. And as we know now from both Rogue One and New Hope - Raymus is piloting the corvette (and is killed by Vader) (Which again makes sense since he was the pilot for the Organas)
RIPPA
The cameo that I am bothered by was Dr. Evazan and Ponda Baba since they literally just conveniently flew off from Jetta moments before it was destroyed

J.T.
Okay, so I finally saw this thing over the Christmas / New Year's break. As much as I want to argue that this was a SW movie for SW fans, SW fans would've screamed at the sky in anger at the last half hour of the movie. Putting Leia in the getaway ship in system was really stupid and it does not support the initial "this is a diplomatic mission" ruse of A New Hope at all. Other than that, yeah. If you're not somewhat knowledgeable about the SW universe, there are quite a few things that would fly over your head, especially stuff like the cameo from Dr. Evazan and Ponda Baba. One thing I admire about this movie is how it sought to address the biggest plot hole in Star Wars aka being able to blow up a planet killing space station the size of a moon with two balls of light. The idea of Orso's design flaw being deliberate and blended into the schematics was pretty smart and somewhat spoke to the running joke about engineers in the SW galaxy being the worst ever created. I really didn't see the point of all of the action on Jeddah as it seemed like very disjointed plot progression.. It really felt like I was watching a side mission of a SW video game where the protagonists were adding more characters to the party. On the other hand, the Kyber monastic order is established in the SWU and lightsaber styles evolved from Echani and K'thri forms of armed and unarmed combat, so buying Donnie Yen as a Shaolin monk in outer space did not require a huge suspension of disbelief on my part. However once again, this is something that someone familiar with the SWU would be familiar with. The last ten minutes of this movie would've been so much better if they had happened anywhere in the galaxy other than Scarif. R2 and 3PO's cameo was perfectly fine. As others have mentioned, they were the property of Bail Organa's personal pilot so it stands to reason that they'd be present on Yavin 4.
Raziel
My issue with them wasn't that they were present, it was that they got from the base as everyone was scrambling into the Tantive IV which was locked in the Reddus' flag ship's hangar during the Battle of Scarif. I can buy Leia and the Tantive being there, as a backup to the backup to get the plans to Obi-Wan should it be needed (although I'll pitch a bitch that the Ghost was right fucking there with possibly two Jedi and a crew that's done a whole shit ton of covert ops that should've been high on the list to take those plans away, not like Jyn was being selective on where she was transmitting those plans). It's established in other media that that the Corvettes are rather common ships and are in heavy use in the Rebellion so as long as they had multiple IDF tags (which any ship in the Rebellion should have) they could play dumb about being there even though Vader watched the ship leave. They had time to change tags as Vader had to get back to the Devastator before they could persue.
