2016 LUCHA UNDERGROUND DISCUSSION

It's amazing how much better Mundo is as a heel. Him chilling with the band during All Night Long was one of the best things in all of season 1 so far (that's where I am). There are only so many stories in wrestling and the way they structured that ironman felt new and novel.

You really don't want to see more of Shane Strickland.

I've been seeing this sentiment a lot and maybe because I don't watch CZW, but what exactly is the deal about him? Like, I was impressed with his match against Mundo and he seems unoffensive in the other Killshot matches from last season. I get why people don't like Sexy Star, but people here make Shane Strickland out to be Davey Richards or something.

He's just as bad as Davey Richards, but in different ways. The set-up time on his moves is ridiculous, most of his offense looks like he's hurting himself far more than his opponent (in LU he does a move that genuinely just looks like he is giving himself a powerslam), many of his terrible mirror sequences feel like he's actually doing a parody of bad indy wrestling mirror sequences, he has some of the most blatant thigh slaps I've ever seen, he has no clue how to build to anything meaningful, he pointlessly sets up moves with 360 spins, except he seems like he gets dizzy during these spins as he often ends up stopping short of his opponent, and because he's bad at these 360s he also does them very slowwwwwwly, he gets wildly out of place for his opponents' offense, he often appears lost in the middle of matches...

I missed pretty much the entire episode due to a very long phone call, but I caught Cage vs. Mundo. Started out pretty bad but Mundo as a heel is reaching Young Bucks level of "please I want to see someone beat him up". The level of beatdown required didn't happen, but the springboard tornillo and Cage's mohawk with chops were pretty cool. No idea who the sleazy valet is but they seem meant for each other. "The Cialis is okay, Johnny! I got some coke too, but, um, it's all for me."

Maybe this isn't for me because I thought most of these matches sucked a fat one. Cage reminds me of a mid 90's Power Plant worker he sucks. I used to dig Evans back in ROH, but it looks like he hasn't improved a lick in 10 years. I just started watching this season and so far I'd say Puma is miles ahead of everyone else, and Pentagon Jr. is by far the best character. Can't say I've been very impressed by anyone else though I did think Joey Ryan did a good job carrying Cage.

It could be a money thing, but I've thought it's more that they had him leave at the last season (as a way to set up a new location), didn't want to repeat the thing where Drago was gone forever and was back in a couple weeks, and wanted to see what stories they could tell with Catrina in charge.

They are going somewhere with these bits; they are NOT saving him for the season finale, but you will have to wait a while longer.

(I liked last night's episode! They could use a killer match but the two big matches next week should have a good shot.)

I still don't get the whole Texano/Chavo feud that I guess has been going on since last season. Since Chavo took the bull rope I guess we'll be getting a bullrope match at some point. That probably will be a bloody one.

Johnny Mundo is such an incredible asshole. It's a shame Melina is legit crazy and I guess they broke up cause they were perfect together. I can't wait for the eventual Mil/Mundo match that will be like Cage/Gordo in the Mortal Kombat movie. I will laugh my ass off if Mundo does the same exact split punch to the balls when the bell rings after Mil crushes his glasses.

I can see how people like Cage, but there's no way that dude is passing any wellness tests. I like him though. He needs more lariats and powerbombs and less whatever his finisher is.

Season two hasn't done a ton for me yet, but I keep reminding myself that it took several episodes for season 1 to click with me too.  Catrina is just not interesting enough to be on the shows as much as she is.  I'm worried that we are slowing getting less lucha, and more indy American guys that I can't stand like Joey Ryan.

Imagine not thinking that Cage is awesome though.

Season 1 and Season 2 are up, thru last Wednesday's show. It's $3/episode for HD, $2/episode for SD. S1 complete season is $45, S2 complete is $40 - if you're going to get even half the season, it makes more sense to just buy the season passes. The first episode of Season 2 is free for all right now.

I have no experience buying iTunes shows, but some googling says new shows are almost always up by 24 hours and usually by the following morning.
