NXT SEASON 8 THREAD

RIPPA

Recommended Posts

I really enjoyed NXT tv but Alex Riley almost killed the main event for me. I know he's supposed to be the heel commentator but he's just too overbearing. It almost sounds like Zayn/Riley is gonna happen sooner than later. If it does, I hope Zayn sends him to future endeavor land.

Went to #NxtOrlando tonight and it was good. Lot of the big time NXT people were gone(Zayn, Neville, Charlotte, Breeze) so some guys that normally don't make the Full sail shows were booked. I really enjoyed the Chad Gable/Angelo Dawkins/Sawyer Fulton amateur wrestling stable. Gable is gonna be a big star. He's got a hateable face and a unique style. I hope one day Angle manages him. Best match of the night was CJ Parker vs Solomon Crowe. I've started to enjoy Parker. He's real fun on these small house shows working the crowd. He's also hilarious. Main event was Hideo/Finn vs Ascension. It wasn't too good as most of the match was Hideo getting beat down and Finn looked blown up early. He did have a nice dive. The finish was a DQ on the Ascension which was so shitty. I hope they have a better match on the 11th. Finn/HIdeo need to get away from the Ascension as soon as possible.

Fuck the Alex Riley. Other than that hack shitbag, what a sweet, sweet hour of pro-wrestling. Tyson Kidd is just firing on all cylinders, Itami and Balor are bad asses, Sasha is incredibly hot right now growing leaps and bounds every month it seems, and that main event was so perfect in every which way. They didn't have the all out, PPV style match they have in them but it was the perfect TV match and the storytelling was top-notch.

People complain, rightfully so, that WWE is thin on stars but it's their own doing. They have such a ridiculous pool of talent to work with. The fact that there are maybe a handful of over guys in the company is ludicrous.

I really liked how the finish to the main event didn't telegraph which direction the angle is going. Could've been Neville faking an injury, could've been the start of Sami snapping, or it could've been Neville getting hurt and Zayn making a mistake as it appeared. Really good work by both guys.

Also, that dive by Kalisto was a real "holy shit" move.

Yeah Oyaji it is sad there's only a few guys over on the main roster, and a guy like Ziggler is over in spite of the booking. Ambrose looked like the biggest star in the company standing on top the cell going wild before the match, but he came out of the show a mid carder smh.

All the stuff in the main event worked because the fans love Zayn. Yeah the execution was near flawless, but none of it works if Zayn isn't over like a MFer.

My favorite episode of NXT to date, it delivered from beginning to end.

Balor's probably one of the better examples of the 'it' factor.

Yes, Sasha is the best. (Charlotte gets exposed whenever she has to wrestle with a rookie, they really are doing a fantastic job of protecting her.)

I'll second the "Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy are kind of awesome."

Seriously, that championship match was fantastic. Rediculously so. I mean, wow.

This hour was fantastic. My only problem with the finish was that I found it to be obvious, especially after the X was thrown up.

I'd like to see Zayn as a heel, but it seems to me like that would be a complete waste of how over he is.

They should never turn him heel in NXT. He's the best babyface. Period. His journey -- a good person we can relate to fighting in a world filled with the corrupt -- is what makes NXT. Everyone's reactions to Sami (from Tyson Kidd to Renee Young) define who they are. Don't screw with that. Ever.

I thought the X was great because you've got Zayn MOMENTS WAY FROM VICTORY and it gets snatched away from him with a no contest only to STILL HAVE IT TAKEN FROM HIM. The WWE.com photo with Neville giving him a half-hearted hug and this evil sneer is just wonderful stuff too.

Neville hugging him for a minute after the pin is what sold it for me. Such a fantastic touch. On Raw they just would have super business GLARED at each other and then probably a lawsuit angle.

And Cole would be busy yammering on TELLING THE STORY of what's going on, while JBL would just be doing whatever and King...I really don't know what he does anymore. He's just kind of on Raw making no impression, which I guess isn't the worst thing in the world.

I agree that Blake and Murphy are pretty darn good, they just need a little something extra to put them over the top. Some kind of character or gimmick would do alot for them to stand out.

Kalisto's dive was fucking nuts.

Balor and Itami rule. My son, who can pretty much take or leave wrestling, watches them intently. Last night he said "So these guys are pretty much the best, right?" Right you are, son.

Itami and Balor will both go on to bigger and better things eventually, but I'd like to see them have a decent run as a team. NXT's tag team division could be amazing with the Lucha Dragons, Itami/Balor, the Vaudevillains, Kidd/Gabriel, Steen/whoever, and teams like Dillinger/Jordan and Murphy/Blake showing occasional promise.

The only question is who is going to fill the void of title contender once Zayn/Neville wraps up. They might go to some WWE reject, since it almost has to be a filler program where either heel Neville or ace Zayn goes over. Don't think you'd want to waste Itami or Balor right away in a program like that.

Plus, it seems like he's in the early stages of Nick Cage bird hair. And he has Miz frog eyes. Fuck that guy. Even heels with storied careers didn't put themselves over as much as Riley does on commentary.

All these dream Stone Cold return scenarios, I think mine would be if he rode out on his ATV in Orlando, gave Riley five stunners, drank some Steveweisers and that was the last we saw of Riley. Ever.

While the angles, characters, and overall shows for NXT have been steadily good all year, the commentary lately has just gone to total shit. It's nearly as bad as Raw. Regal and Renee were awesome in the booth, and I didn't even mind goons like Riley and Albert rotating through because everyone had a different style. Unfortunately, they stumbled into the horrendous Brennan/Riley/Albert combo and someone somewhere thought "Hey these guys sound like a less experienced version of our Raw announce team, nailed it."

July 10th 2014 NXT episode: Summer Rae vs. Bayley for a title shot against Charlotte was a good match between the two and we got a backstage promo that summer is trying to get Sasha on her side. Neville/Zayn vs. Kidd/Gabriel was a good match and setup that Tyson will win at any cost even when Nattie is hurt. Look forward to the next couple of weeks to see how this progresses.

What a nothing happening show. Bayley-Becky could've been good, but they were given less time than Cass and Enzo's promo. They teased Kidd-Balor and delivered Kidd-Parker. At least we're getting the former match next week. Vaudevillians thing was just stupid and the Lucha Dragons should've done something since they were the ones, not the heels, scheduled for action. Steen's promo video was pretty exciting. He's coming in as a heel, which is good and I hope we get either him costing Zayn the title, or Zayn winning and him immediately going into a title feud. They did a fantastic job tonight setting up the main event stuff, and that's way more than I can say for anything on the main roster shows.

You know what's great about this Zayn/Neville thing is that I know someone's turning heel, but I genuinely don't know who that's going to be. They've done a great job of giving both guys motivation to do so (and glimmers of maybe taking that path).

I admit to being super-excited when Bull Dempsey's music hit while Baron Corbin was walking back up the ramp. I think they should have booked Bull to beat the crowd's count/Baron's mark, actually. That would have been great. Anyway, I'd love to see them do that more often; one after the other squashes by two guys who will eventually meet to see who the baddest man is. For example, it would be a great RAW moment if they could do a Ryback squash followed immediately by Rusev storming out for a quick squash without cutting away; that would be a great way to indirectly tease a future match.

Charlotte's "What am I gonna do with this girl" face when Bayley came in for a hug was maybe the best thing on this show, and that is high praise, actually. The matches were generally fine, but almost everyone had some really quality character work on this ep.
