  1. Having Dax show up was foreshadowing that Tequila would make an appearance later.

  3. ROH 2023 really just feels like comfort wrestling, if that makes any sense. Just fun, no nonsense wrestling with a variety of guys doing a variety of styles. Fun to watch and simple to follow.

  4. I'm mostly mad at MJF for doing that because now I have to read all this pearl clutching for a week. It was a shitty thing to do. Yes. But the kid got to have a great experience afterwards and it's not like he was physically injured or anything. Like I said, I'm sure MJF has been told that under no circumstances is he allowed to do anything like that again.

  5. I enjoyed the hell out of this. Watching it in a theatre with about 10 other hardcore fans is super fun. My MOTN is a toss up between the main event and the trio titles match.

  6. As much of a problem I have with Page's structuring of matches, I do think he's a unique character that can appeal to the modern fan in unique ways. He speaks to our times, lives and breathes our anxieties. He can be a man of the people for the 2020s. They should never, ever leave those possibilities on the table. As such, I think they absolutely blew this match. I was watching, watching all the barbed wire, the tables, the fork, the bricks, the chain, and the last thing I wanted to see was Page out-toxic masculinity Mox. He already beat him once, came close to outfighting him a second time. And that's exactly how he won, by being "more of a man." And I kind of hated it. Hangman Page is the only guy in the world who could have found some other way to beat Moxley, that could have found some way to draw deep inside himself and kill him with kindness. It would have been so much better and so much truer to who Hangman Page is and could be and to the fanbase and all of you lovable jerks for them to beat each other all over the ring and Page to just let him go, to pull him side, to tell him that he forgave Moxley and that Moxley needs to forgive himself too, to give him a big hug, and for Moxley to just lay down, eyes shut, for ten seconds, finally at peace, a peace that only an anxious millennial cowboy could help him find. Or you know, he can just hang him with a chain. Whatever. @Octopus, back me up here.

  8. I didn't watch this live. I had a late Sunday the 5th of March with my Dad/Aje who is like a brother to me. An early start to my birthday today the 6th of March with Aje heading back and my birthday is always difficult missing my marvellous Mum. Will watch ASAP without sleep deprived.

  9. Man that was so much fun. Like everyone else I was lukewarm to most everything heading in and just about everything over delivered. The crowd was red hot and super fun to be a part of. My favorite matches were the trios, mox/hangman, and the main. Omega is my favorite wrestler and that was such a fun match and I hope omega returning to the main event scene can help spark things up a bit. I went in with a very low interest level in the jungle boy Christian match and I have to say they and the crowd really pulled me in and had me thoroughly entertained. That was a great match and really fun. Even the woman behind me commented on how stunning Julia looked. No one around me wanted wardlow to win and no one wants to see Hobbs lose to him either. I was curious how the crowd would do, and how Bryan and mjf would manage the crowd. I thought live the crowd was super hot except for a lull around the 15 minute mark, but they expertly got the crowd out of that with the roll up battle. Overall it was a really awesome crowd live

  11. Every match was slightly better or significantly better than was expecting. Joe/Wardlow was just *there* but had so much competition around it. I'll slap five stars on the trios title match, I'm no coward. I think the "MJF can't wrestle" talking point can officially go away now (it never should have existed but he worked his ass off tonight). Really great PPV.

  12. I ended up getting the PPV and glad I did. Iron Man match is my MOTY so far. Bryan came away looking very strong and Maxwell survived as both a champion and still dirty. Bryce did a masterful job as ref. I’m so pumped up right now. The ending had me stand up. Then when Schiavone was talking to his earpiece I started giggling. People were losing their mind towards the end. Great work from everyone involved! Hangman vs Mox was absolutely lovely. Page is the Man now. Interesting to see what he does going forward with this win.

  13. I know I'm crazy for calling for it and it'd be too much of a good thing but: Run Aubrey vs Jarrett and put Aubrey over in whatever would be the most humiliating manner for Jeff.

  14. I get why the kid was upset. But man if I was a kid and a heel champion threw tequila in my face I would be celebrating that as the best moment of my life. It was wrong for Max to do that. But I always rooted for the heels and am raising my son to do the same.
    5 points
  15. One day MJF is going to "best heel" the wrong person and get fucking mauled and he'll deserve it. Fuck Max.

  16. So apparently it wasn't water that was thrown in the kids face, it was tequila. Did MJF know that? Obviously not. But the man is playing a dangerous game in the effort of being a heel. He is lucky that it was a woman with the kid and he was lucky that Tony Khan was able to bribe the family enough to not make it a big deal And I know people are going to play the "all these snowflakes being mad at the heel must not know shit about history" card. That is fair but if you are going to mess with the fans like that you better make sure that you can fight back.

  17. Just wrote my 800 words about the main. It was worth an hour and I'm glad I wasn't spoiled (as even a little bit of uncertainty helped the medicine go down) though I could tell there was an extra 5-7 mi I still have to make it through the rest of the card, but I liked all of the goofy bullshit in the pre-match trios. It was fine to warm the crowd up considering there was just going to be one pre-show match Anyway, here's my SC write up.

  18. That’s disappointing. I like Hangman’s regular theme, but that seemed like the perfect song for a evolution in the character

  20. I'm a fan of Hayter, Saraya, and Ruby (especially Hayter the GOAT) but I thought that match was going to be a mess. Smartly worked, stiff, and fun. With a solid finish to keep the program going. Wish Ruby had stayed neutral but holding out hope that Willow returns to pull her back. Nearly cried when Hangman won. That dude is my dude. Keep Ghost Riders in the Sky, please

  24. Brody King's an all-time beast. Love that his finisher was the killer, ultimately, in a very, very good trios match. Mox/Hangman lived up to the hype and Danielson/MJF exceeded it by some measure. I love Max, love his schtick. Hasn't worn off on me yet. Everything else was at least pretty fuckin good. Loved the pacing, as others have said. It's insane how good Jarrett has been in his role. Just pitch perfect. Glad FTR seem to be sticking around. The Acclaimed are fine without the belts and will only cool off once the half-life of how funny people find the phrase "Scissor Me Daddy Ass" has run its course. AEW has easily the best tag division on the planet. Makes me feel for The Best Friends and Silver/Reynolds who both deserve runs on top. No complaints about anything, honestly, except that we are back to square one with the TNT title and the time to pull the trigger on Hobbs was yesterday. Maybe give him the All-Atlantic? Feed OC to MJF in a ladder match or something? Who knows!

  25. Wrestling in general needs to be more careful about using kids as props, not that it happens much. I remember at a ROH show I went to when Oedo Tai was there, and they grabbed a kid from the crowd and used him to "help" in a spot they were doing. Harmless stuff on paper, but apparently the kid was the quiet/reserved type and was scared/upset by it, to the point of crying and looking pretty terrified. I think they cut it from the broadcast. It probably sounded like fun when they were talking over the match, but you just never know with kids and its best to leave them be. MJF jawing with the guy in the front row is a smarter/easier way to get the point across he is a heel without having physical contact.

  26. Maybe in 1983 somewhere MJF could pull those stunts and it'd cause a riot and everyone would praise him as a legendary Roddy Piper type figure but even then doing it with a kid who isn't a plant is pretty messed up. I appreciate the efforts MJF goes to be an asshole but that tells me no he's probably just an asshole.. Not to turn this into an AEW vs. WWE thing but MJF would probably be fired today if he did that at a WWE show. Let's be honest..

  28. Here's my take on what Max did. I don't want to sound like a tough guy, but he does that to my kid? I'm going to try to fuck him up. We're told as fans that when you cross that barricade you're in their world and you're fair game to get fucked up or worse by the wrestlers. The same should apply if wrestlers cross that same barricade to go into the crowd and then proceed to throw your drink in your child's face. Folks, that is assault and you're totally within your right to defend yourself at that point. Max is fucking lucky he's surrounded by security when he's out there and he was especially lucky in this instance. But this is also the perfect example of Max's character as a human being. If anything, this just exposes him more as a real life piece of shit. There's zero reason to pull that stunt. You have a million ways to get over as a heel without resorting to some lame Bubba Ray type shit. One day Max is going to fuck around and find out with the wrong person. My opinion on the show is pretty much the same as everyone else's. Great show, Wardlow vs Joe was the weakest match, main event really surprised me in how much it pulled me in.

  29. I'm concerned about this myself as for obvious reasons neither then or FTR should 1) be heels or 2) lose anytime soon. I think put the belts on FTR, turn them heel in 6 months and have the Acclaimed win the belts back is probably the most generous scenario for both teams. Still runs the risk of the Acclaimed going cold though. Maybe the answer is...a secondary tag team title Long-term I still think Bowens as a singles main eventer is a thing they need to explore but I would never break up the team, just have them work singles while still teaming regularly.

  30. I think they need to do some damage control on the Wardlow character if it's not too late already. Watching the recap video last night where he's on his balcony dressed for GQ contemplating the California skyline speaking in his reading lines off the teleprompter methodical way of doing promos was a useful snapshot of everything off-putting about his babyface persona. A buddy of mine has been calling him "Job Interview Wardlow" which I think is pretty funny. I like the idea of him being a complicated, sensitive monster but when he's doing run-ins wearing a velvet blazer I kind of wonder what exactly they're going for with him.

  31. I loved seeing all the cribbing MJF was doing with territorial stars, and even Jay White. I had two matches make it to my all-time great list tonight. This might have been the best AEW PPV. Mox/Page was a well-told, well-earned story as well. The only real mediocre match on the card was Wardlow/Joe, and that was perfectly servicable, and in a spot no one was going to pop for more due to being worn out, so that was fine. They paced the card out well.

  32. Who was the performer of the night.. I gotta say Bryan Danielson. He just would not die and the way he sold every bit of those final 15 minutes + overtime i thought he was done for multiple times and I thought MJF was done multiple times. I bit on 2 or 3 nearfalls and a submission spot. Wild. I think that might be a full 5 stars if you're into that kind of thing. Bryan was super protected here too, I need him to win that title at some point, please Bryan

  33. This was a hell of a show! I was having trouble getting up for it over the last few weeks/maybe month or two of TV, but these guys don't miss on PPV 99% of the time, and this was no exception. Main event far exceeded my expectations, MJF brought his working boots tonight and Danielson seemed legit overjoyed out there. Stellar match with two tiiiiiny nitpicks: 1) I could have done without MJF's Dave/star crap, 2) the water stuff had no payoff! I thought it was gonna be Checkov's bottle, and like Danielson would spray him in the eyes for a fall or MJF would be too slick to stay in the LeBell or something; nope, just thirsty. It's so minor, but bad look to have em chanting 'H²O' with 3 mins to go. Otherwise, ffff'nnn stellar bout (sorry Danielson didn't go over for your bday @The Natural - hbd man!) I have many other thoughts on the show but I'll get to them post scrum. Thumbs way up though

  34. Whoever said there no was bullshit between matches wasn’t kidding, and that was a huge benefit of this show. Match, finish, quick video package, match. No interviews, no skits, no nothing. That ruled.

  35. That was one of the craziest things I've seen.. I mean as an event overall.. We saw a Buried Alive Match that was really great by the way and credit to Christian who is a living GOAT and Jungle Boy who really brought it and it's like okay that was crazy and the whole night just continued to up the ante. Hangman and Mox was ultra violent and for once I felt it was earned Trios titles was a great match with a lot of wavy unique spots I Don't even know what to say about the Iron Man.. it was maybe more wild than Texas Death.. it was super overbooked but actually also made a lot of sense with each spot which was weird.. it just served to really ratchet up the drama and it worked. Well done Tony Snow. What a tremendous show.

  38. Okay, so Xfinity came back on, but I was already trying to sleep by midnight. I watched a couple matches off the show today. Starks/Jericho was very good, with some solid DDP-injured-ribs work. Loved the block of the elbow. Ricky deeply needed to win this and Jericho deeply needed to lose. I hope he acts super petulant and childish on Wednesday. Skipped the six man Skipped the women's (sorry, I'll come back to you) but I gotta say Ruby as a heel will be fun because she takes a great asskicking Well of course I loved the TEXAS DEATH MATCH. For getting stabbed in the head with a fork like 20 times Hanger still wasn't bleeding much, but I bet both men's backs and arms look like shit today. They really did some good work on spots, placement of gimmicks, use of gimmicks, and innovation thereof. The Shield throwback with the stomp on the bricks, for example. Something would be set up outside, like the board on the single chair, you'd forget about it and then it'd come out of nowhere. Very intelligently laid out match. And of course both guys (Page included now) are bloodsucking freaks so there's that. I also gotta give a holler to the tap instead of a pass-out, that put an exclamation point on the win. Smo Joe vs. Wardlow was perfectly fine even if the crowd wasn't that into it. I'll even give credit to the finish being original/different, even though again the crowd wasn't digging it. As good a face as Wardlow can be and a heel Hobbs can be, those positions definitely need to be reversed here. Gotta work so I'll come back to the rest after. (One last thing: that kid could have been autistic and then people REALLY would be throwing a shit-fit)

  39. Derek Carr = 9 letters Drew Brees = 9 letters Both started with an inept California team before going to New Orleans Therefore that’s all the evidence you’ll need to decide that Carr will be the next Brees

  40. Less is more with AEW. Obvioulsy the 60 minute main meant less matches but they kept the card to under 4 hours. Do you use the PPV to start feuds or end them? AEW seemed to use this one to end most of them - clearly Jungle Boy, Hangman and Starkes are done and moving on; Same with MJF. Love that FTR are back and squarely in the tag title picture. It's weird in that coming out of the PVV the storylines are potentially wrapped up - and the next chapter and build to All Out can begin. Who is the third AEW original on the women's side - is it Willow? Could be great place for her? Don't think Jade needs it.

  41. Pearl clutching? Really? Again, throwing a drink at someone is assault. The company shouldn't have to bend over backwards to make it right with people because that shit shouldn't happen in the first place. And how many times do people have to keep making the excuse for MJF to never do something again? By the time he's 30 he's going to have nothing left to do because he'll have been told so many times to never do something again.

  42. I'm catching up. The HOB/Elite match reminds me of the Young Bucks versus Kevin Steen/Super Dragon street fight where the Bucks got beaten into my heart. Brodie King is so fucking awesome. Saraya looked great. I loved the Ruby Soho heel turn. Jamie Hayter is so fucking awesome. OUTLAWS~!

  43. After having slept on it, that was the best AEW PPV ever. It was obviously the most well paced and easy to digest show they've ever done and the match quality top to bottom surpassed every other show I can think of.. Stylistically, it was great to have such a diverse card as well.

  44. Yeah thats one thing I forgot to mention. The show ran oh about 3:50 I'd say but it flew by. In a weird way the Iron Man Match made sure the timing of everything else didn't overstay its welcome and there was no real downtime or dumb bullshit. Just action. The card placement was also good because it'd go from regular Match to stipulation Match to spot fest Match etc..

  45. Excellent show, the theater experience was great. I'm probably in the minority, but I'm not a huge proponent of MJF throwing the drink on the kid. (SRS tweeted that the kid was visibly upset.) I don't like when comedians make someone who doesn't want to be, a part of the show. I guess I don't like it when wrestlers do it either. Is the front row the theoretical "splash zone" at the water park? Was that always the case? Should front row fans be prepared for that like fans that bring tarp to a Gallagher show?

  46. This was my first PPV buy since last year's Revolution and I was not let down. I was really pulling for Dragon in the main event but the match was way better than I expected. I don't care for MJF's schtick or promos but he's pretty damn good in the ring. Mox and Hanger was awesome. I really like Brody King, he was the star of the Trios match for me. Overall I was happy with the show and glad it ended at a decent time.

  47. I feel like a swine for griping so much about the build up to what ended up being a fantastic ppv. I was sold from the moment Starks won clean. What a great night for him and HOB, getting strong, clean wins when it was absolutely needed. Every match was either good, great, fun, intriguing, or all four, except Wardlow/Joe which was like "I know what they were going for but not only did it not work someone should have told them ahead of time it wasn't going to work". Interesting to see if Hobbs ends up damaged by all this (I think he'll move on from Wardlow and be fine). Damn were the Trios match, the Texas Death, and the main event great. And damn was Brody King tremendous as always. Once MJF's reign is over they should really consider giving King the ball for a year as heel champ. This roster is full of Misawas and Stings in need of a Hansen or Vader to chase. I was even into the Jungle Boy match I had been dreading all week. Ruby shouldn't be a heel but at least now the heel team will have someone whose promos I can actually understand and who has a better head for character development in general. Overall just I really really really enjoyed the hell out of this ppv. Match for match there have been better AEW ppvs but in terms of me going in with low expectations and loving almost everything this may end up in a weird way being the most memorable for me since All Out 2021. Hoping this show marks the beginning of more focused booking going forward.

  49. Great show. The Ironman rules but had one obviously flaw. Why did they not have the overtime contingency in case of a tie? I get that it got them the oxygen tank prop for the win but man they could have had something else. Also, I think I would have preferred “Bryan holds on heroically after Max does some bullshit and hooks in his submission to retain the tie” the the villain of villains doing the same. But still a great match. Mox/Paige was insanity. Not sure if I ever want to see that type of match ever again in my life but I could not turn away.
