  9. Right. My point. No one would have talked up Corbin as this elite dude based off of one match. He's gotten really good since then but let's not forget what preceded it, either. I will never understand many people. He was being protected by working nothing but squash matches a year ago because he couldn't work. Now people are saying he's better than Rollins. It's a joke. Anyone arguing this is a joke. I should go back to rewatch Cena/Rollins and Rollins/Sting from NOC. I remember thinking they were really good matches. Rollins/Neville from Raw was one of the best TV matches in memory and it had two amazing near falls. The one after the Red Arrow might be the best near fall ever. It was so well done and clever and had the fans eating out of the palm of their hands. I know a lot of people hate the WWE-style stuff but there's a difference between hating a style and not recognizing someone is good at the style. A food reviewer who trashes a French restaurant because he hates French food really sucks at criticism.

  10. That argument is unreasonable because of things not involving workrate, though- because each guy's gimmick works better in the other option. Yes, Rollins would pull something better out of Apollo Crews than Baron Corbin is- he's still a former indy darling and that would fit well in the NXT "in-house super-indy" style NXT has, so Rollins would fit the style better. By the same token, Corbin actually WOULD fit better in Rollins's role even if he can't work- Corbin caught fire with the "screw the indies" gimmick he had last year, and so he'd be tailor made to be an Authority member just because of that (as opposed to Rollins, who can't "really" get the same hatred in the Authority he could have, because the Authority did work best when their message was "F--- the Indies, only what WWE says goes"...and suddenly turning around and making Tyler Black their fairhaired boy doesn't fit that nature (and it helped with how the Authority sank like a stone there.) Yes, they'd both do better in the other person's spot, but that has nothing to do with Rollins or Corbin's abilities as performers and shouldn't be considered part of March Madness. However, Corbin making the conscious choice to wrestle to his role correctly and Rollins making the choice otherwise should.

  15. If you asked 10 random wrestling fans if Seth Rollins is a bad wrestler, a good wrestler or a great wrestler, the majority of them would probably say great. I might not have him over a number of guys in this tournament but he's obviously doing something right. In his defense, he didn't really break out a lot of his flashy offense until he was booked so weak and like such a joke that he probably felt like he had to find some way to have credibility with your average fan. If Seth wrestled how he was booked, he should have lost every match he was in within a minute. Finally, we know the original WrestleMania plan was HHH vs Rollins so they probably were setting him up to be the face in the feud. Him busting out more babyface like offense could have been intentional for all we know.

  17. I was too young to understand who Brother Love was mocking when he came around back in 88 (the Jimmy Swaggerts/Jim Baker's of the world) but it really amazes me the WWE never tried to do it again in the 2000's with the rise of the MEGA Churches. A Joel Osteen type would be such an amazing faction leader. He wouldn't have to be outright religious, but you could know who he was mocking with speaking styles and stuff. Don Callis would have been perfect for that. I wish he wouldn't have been released and actually ended up as the Higher Power. I don't know if Tully Blanchard can still take bumps but him coming back as a crooked televangelist manager would be money.

  18. Just finished watching InVicta 4 Joanna Calderwood looked vicious in her fight and somehow her opponent was able to get it to a decision. Nunes lost which surprised me and Pennington once again seemed sluggish in her lost as well. Bazler vs. Davis was fight of the night with a nasty finish by Davis with blood added to make in more memorable. Carla did what she does and beat Bec to win the Strawweight title. I might try to watch #5 before this weekend's triple header of shows.

  23. My wacky indie experience for the night: Chris Hero's flight was delayed so the St. Louis Anarchy show had to be drawn out to give him time to get to the building. A match or two was added and a ton of matches went noticably long (I think only one match went under ten minutes and Davey Vega vs. Jeremy Wyatt went just under 30). The show clocked in at just under five hours and ended with Mat Fitchett ending Gary Jay's 28-month reign as champion. Good times. Also got to hang out for a bit with A.C.H. as he was visiting.

  26. The 2000s versions were, I think, a little under a lot of people's radars. The 80s version was such a weird pop-culture phenomenon once the Jim Baker scandals hit the tabloids. I mean, Jessica Hahn essentially became a star for awhile out of it. It was also so much gaudier. They were building theme parks and stuff. Then it got, like more efficient and corporate and careful, maybe? Weirdly 80s televangelism commpared to 2000s telvangelism is a lot like 80s WWF vs. 2000s WWE.

  27. It's funny to think back to all those cheap suits he used to wear as Claudio and now how good he looks in suits now. You'd really wish he'd slip John Cena his tailor's info when they work out or something.

  28. seems to me their gonna build around Kento,Jake lee, Nomura and Aoygi as longterm big players, if they can survive. Dont see any hotshotting happening here. Exactly. I'm not sure where they got this hot shot deal from. Go quit, so they put it on Akiyama until the contract situation eased. It's clear the plan was for Miyahara to take it off of Suwama but his achilles snapped. Miyahara's win ideally should have been at Sumo Hall and honestly they should have just left the belt vacant or put it up in this year's TC, but whatever. I guess Akiyama promised a TC match on 2/12, so we got one regardless to who was in the main event.
