Curt McGirt Posted March 23 Posted March 23 (edited) I kinda wish we still had the Wrestling Pics page because I drop a lot of shit I see on Facebook on the Discord instead, but sometimes something so good crops up, it just has to go here. Spoiler P.S. I also just found one of a butt plug where the handle was Spoiler A sculpture of Rocky's head. So, "shove it up your candy ass", indeed. Edited March 23 by Curt McGirt 3 1
Ziggy Posted March 24 Posted March 24 If Ric Flair jumped to WWF in 98 like he was considering doing when he had his issues with Bischoff do you think Vince would have pulled back on his Fued with Austin and ot would have been Flair vs Austin instead of Austin vs McMahon at the peak of the Attitude era?

Just like Bret lost momentum after WCW didn't know what to do with him, I think the same would have happened to Flair. It's hard to make that transition when the company is red hot (critically and/or commercially) and there is no natural place where you fit in. I doubt they would have stopped the Mr. McMahon thing. I think it would have been 2-3 months before they ask him to put over Rock or Hunter or somebody just because that's where the momentum was heading. He basically would have been doing what Foley was doing. You have the top guy in the business and the two guys under him are 25 about to turn 26 when Flair would have come in and the other guy just turned 29. Why would a guy who is about to be 50 now be in your plans? Also, I don't think people would want to boo Flair at that point. 2

In fact, Mistico vs Volador Jr has probably happened about 500 times at this point.

According to the Lucha Database, Mistico and Ultimo Guerrero have been in the same match 839 times. I'd wager 700+ were against each other Volador Jr & Mistico have been in the same match 638 times... I'd say there is a solid chance around 40% of those have been on the same team. Ultimo & Volador Jr have been in the same match 673 times... I imagine for some of those they've both been on the rudo side, but Volador would probably be against Ultimo for 90% of those

But... wasn't Vince "creative"? Just odd. I could be wrong on the timing of this, but I think this was that period when Vince had first stepped away due to the allegations against him/sponsors revolt and was in the process of taking back more or less full control. I think it first became obvious right after a Mania, so if it was this one then the Edge/Balor stuff would track. 1
Cobra Commander Posted March 24 Posted March 24 first pic of Mick and Colette here could give one flashbacks to "The Look" by Roxette: https://www.instagram.com/p/DHgzAqMR_IG/?img_index=1 1 1

Yeah, Flair probably just ends up being tied to HHH a few years earlier than in real life. DX Flair, yay!

The worst thing I can think of are his PED issues.

I don’t know; I think the general idea would have been for Flair to have been Vince’s endorsed “corporate champion” to feud with Austin in that late summer/early fall time period. Even better would have been if he had made peace with Savage for a feud with Austin. Or better still, an entire wave one after the other of earlier-era WWF guys coming back in a panicked Vince attempt to vanquish Austin. 1

Josh is the War Master though, and is a good dude. At this point, I'd much rather hear him talk about Magic the Gathering or have a YouTube show where he plays table Magic or busts out this ridiculous cube that has the Power 9 in it or something than see him wrestle. I still enjoy Bloodsport though. I fully believe Josh has to own the Power 9 unless he's gone to the dark side and plays Yu Gi Oh or worse, collects Lorcana. 2

I'm surprised he's not a Warhammer 4K dude though, for the obvious reason.
Craig H Posted March 24 Posted March 24 It's possible? That Venn Diagram has some overlap. Good god. I need a video of Josh Barnett, Post Malone, Henry Cavill, and a fourth playing some ridiculous diplomacy table Magic with stupid horse trading and alliances, but each one of them has a Rhystic Study out and you constantly hear them all keep asking, "are you going to pay 1 extra for that?" The game takes 5 hours and essentially ends when someone combos out.
AxB Posted March 24 Posted March 24 Not only is Josh Barnett a Warhammer guy, he's the reason Shayna Baszler is a Warhammer girl now. He's a Warhammer evangelist. 2

Curt McGirt Posted March 24 Posted March 24 Apropos of nothing, I'm watching Alligator II: The Mutation and just saw them show a wrestling match between Chavo Classic and Alexis Smirnoff where Chavo busted out a moonsault and a Northern Lights on Smirnoff Gotta love random wrestling showing up totally unawares
odessasteps Posted March 24 Posted March 24 I saw someone post a clip from House where the wrestling on in the background is TNA with Abyss and someone.
Curt McGirt Posted March 25 Posted March 25 (edited) This was neat because it wasn't some background TV wrestling (like the Tatanka match in Natural Born Killers where Rodney Dangerfield is yelling "Kill the fuckin' Indian!") but they actually worked a live wrestling match into the film to show some wrestling, completely out of nowhere with no real bearing on the plot AT ALL. Also, this movie is absolutely fuckin' terrible. I'm just glad that Dee Wallace, Richard Lynch, etc. got paychecks, I guess. Lewis Teague and John Sayles it is not. Edited March 25 by Curt McGirt

They brought back Big Bossman as Vince McMahons hired gun around that time. He putting everyone over just a few months before in WCW. When he came back to WWFwas cool to see his as dark version of Bossman. It probably had more to do him going back to that gimmick that made me happy to have him back. John Tenta almost brought back as Earthquake. I understand Earthquake is way too cartoonish for the era but I'm sure Russo could have found some storyline reason to come in and attack Austin or Rock or Foley. I think he would have had good matches with all those guys. I wasn't on the internet so I had no clue he was Gulga. He had no interaction with anyone at the top which I understand those guys probably not wanting to give him any shine. Tenta I'm sure had alot left in the tank as he wasn't as old as he looked plus I Imagine he was as beat up as alot of guys from the golden era because he didn't have much of a run in WCW after his program with Sting and the fact that he was pretty much straight edge. 1
Curt McGirt Posted March 25 Posted March 25 You could have easily taken Tenta out of that Golga costume (which is up there with the weirdest idea they ever had) and reintroduced Quake no problem. Did anyone not smart, or someone of you actually smart, know it was him? The fans certainly didn't.
