lostinube Posted October 21 Posted October 21 So Games 1 and 2 will be on Saturday and Sunday mornings in Japan. With Shohei playing in his first World Series, I believe the ratings will be fairly high in Japan. Can't imagine if it goes the distance (another Saturday and Sunday). Game 5 against the Padres (Yamamoto vs Darvish with special guest star Shohei) was on a Saturday morning here and garnered a 20 point rating, which is roughly 10 percent of the population. I don't believe that includes streaming. I think it's the highest rating for an MLB postseason game on Japanese television. Game 1 of the NLCS against the Mets was a little lower with an 18.5. In the last WBC, the 2nd round game between Japan and Italy had a 30 rating. The semi-final and final (Japan vs Mexico and the US respectively) were in the 20s mainly because they were being played on weekday mornings. 1
Contentious C Posted October 23 Posted October 23 And Fernando Valenzuela passes the same week the Series is set to begin. That's got to be a little extra fire for the Dodger fans. 2
Ace Posted October 23 Posted October 23 Aw, no. I started getting into baseball when Fernandomania happened. This one hurts.
odessasteps Posted October 23 Posted October 23 Had to explain to some of the younger folks at town what Fernandomania was like, esp for Latin fans in LA.
Pete Posted October 23 Posted October 23 Fernandomania was real on a national level. I've mentioned this in the past... he was partially responsible for the biggest Mets crowd I'd ever seen in my life at that point. 1983, Fernando vs Tom Seaver in a real generational pitchers battle that sold out Shea... but there'd been a rainout so Lasorda shuffled things and Bob Welch pitched instead. RIP El Toro.
odessasteps Posted October 23 Posted October 23 Cool that MLB the Show gave everyone a free Fernando today.
RIPPA Posted October 24 Posted October 24 Dave Roberts said today that there is absolutely no chance Ohtani pitches in the World Series

RIPPA Posted October 25 Posted October 25 WS rosters were announced each team had a "surprise" Dodgers left off Evan Phillips - which honestly is that much of a surprise considering he was struggling with arm fatigue in the NLCS The Yanks added Nestor Cortes to their roster. That isn't much a surprise as the playoff who seemingly lost their spot because of it was Jon Berti. That means when Anthony Rizzo inevitably gets hurt again - the only 1B the Yanks are carrying is Oswaldo Cabrera
RIPPA Posted October 26 Posted October 26 To the surprise of clearly no one but I guess Aaron Boone, bad Clay Holmes is here
RIPPA Posted October 26 Posted October 26 The number of former players carrying on on Twitter about what a bad umpire Carlos Torre is is greater than 1 tonight (I’ve seen Todd Frazier and Eric Hosmer so far)
RIPPA Posted October 26 Posted October 26 The number of Little League triples the Dodgers have this game is absurd
RIPPA Posted October 26 Posted October 26 It the right call but it’s still wild that a batter was intentionally walked to get to Aaron Judge

The run could’ve lost them the game. At least with Torres on second there was a chance of getting out of the inning (and no I haven’t seen it yet. I just saw a tweet on ESPN’s site)
