Go2Sleep Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Someone needs to .gif that Mox no-sell of Zay jumping him. That was hilarious, although I don't know why they had to do Private Party dirty like that booking wise. Letting them lose next week while the Yuta story takes shape would've been just fine. Mark Davis coming back soon looks like a safe bet with all the United Empire references and dusting off the Coriolis. Ricochet/Ospreay is a great choice for the 5 year anniversary main. 1

As that beat down was going on, all I thought was "man, this is how you write off a couple guys leaving the company". I really hope they don't saddle Wheeler Yuta with them... but that seems where we're headed.
StuntmanCrowley Posted September 19 Posted September 19 A Lot of Random Thoughts: Ricochet/Mortos was my MOTN. I was looking forward to it all day and it did NOT dissapoint. I have to agree with the sentiment about Private Party. I'm not big on them, but goddamn, that was an absolute annihilation. Komander didn't fare much better, but still not that bad. I liked how realistic the well done the hammer shot was. That being said, I love the presentation of this new BCC(is that that they're still called?), especially liking Shafir with them. I remember on some podcast a while back hearing that Mox wanted to work with her/was high on her and she definitely fits with the qesthetic. Unhinged Hangman v Jeff Jarrrett is going to be awesome. Mariah May is ust exceptional, but i thought all of the women in that match were great in presenting themselves. I'm so, so, so tired of Jericho, but i do absolutely have to respect that he can still go the way he can. He just needs a 8-12 month vacation from TV because he's gotten to the point where i mentally tune out his matches, no matter who he is wrestling. WTF are they doing with Kip Sabian? Why are they doing something with Kip Sabian? 3

And no matter how much he loses, he stays over. I don't remember if I said it here or in my friend's discord a few weeks back, but I could totally live with a Rush/Mortos regular tag team. And looking at the ten man tag they booked on Collision. Why are they constantly taking rando dudes from groups and pairing them up? GYV, Mortos, Rush, and Strong? 3
Matt D Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Perfectly fine Dynamite (I skipped the main and maybe only saw the finish of the Jericho match). Ricochet match was ok because Mortos took most of it. I have a feeling Mox wouldn't have done that to Private Party if it wasn't part of a journey for them. He outright said it. Women's match was fun but I would have liked to see just a little more interaction with Deeb and May (we just got a blind tag and a few looks it felt). I thought that was leading to a 4-way at Grand Slam and a singles match will be better. Didn't like anything on the show as much as Atlantis Jr. vs Peter Avalon on ROH, which the other thing I saw on the way in. I very much appreciate Rampage and Collision because that's where a lot of the stuff I like best in AEW ends up. 3
HarryArchieGus Posted September 19 Posted September 19 I’m of the opinion that Private Party got what they deserved. And it was a long time coming. 1 3

If by that you mean "a big time angle and a push in earnest," then yes, I wholeheartedly agree If they aren't outright involved in the match, I could see them doing a run-in on the trios title match next week and costing BCC the titles to further the issue. That said, I could easily see PP siding with the BCC guys as a twist, in a sort of tough love, "You gave us the fire we needed"-type story. Or maybe they're the ones to unseat the Bucks eventually, and similarly, they credit it to Mox's hammer attack giving them the motivation (but without siding with them). ETA: Ok, I'm seeing they're still the match. I wasn't sure if the idea was supposed to be that BCC/Mox were taking them out of it (as a roundabout way to further the story of Danielson not being cleared due to a similar attack by them) Edited September 19 by Zakk_Sabbath 1

Somebody defeating The Beast Mortos should be an epic achievement, not something that happens every week or two. 1
HarryArchieGus Posted September 19 Posted September 19 (edited) I like the idea of pairing The Beast with Don Callis. Maybe even partnering with Roosh (inbetween injury, visa issues, parenthood etc.and after the next round of vignettes). They should also dust off the Friday/Kim Chee ‘handler’ gimmick for him. Fine, give him an ROH title. Er nah, ROH title holding makes more losses inevitable. Tho, I don’t mind him killing it in defeat more. Edited September 19 by HarryArchieGus 1
Curt McGirt Posted September 19 Posted September 19 (edited) DYNAMITE~! Written in real time! - Slow-ass Jericho still busting out the moonsault and a table bump. It feels like Larry Zybysco with highspots, and stiffness to make up for the rest like 2000 Tenryu. Orange is so good he just rolls with it. Chris even improvised with the powerslam! I did not expect this, or even expect it to be this good after it started. The interference wasn't even necessary. Fucking Jericho! Somehow he just makes it work. - Nick Wayne being a Big Deal in a typical 4-Man AEW Match is hilarious. - Serena's robe is DOPE. She also looks to take a kick right in the nose, oof. Match is really good and the screwy finish somehow works too. I'll leave the Mina talk to the creepers. - Darby kinda stole the heat from Private Party and Komander getting their asses kicked, but it was very, very effective anyway. - ...aaaaaaaand we got our Prince Puma vs. Black Taurus match. And it ruled. Ricochet has such pop on his high-impact stuff. Mortos is still a great base. Is it just this show being awesome? I feel like everything is good. - Jarrett vs. Hangman is a big step down from fighting a world champion but I'm totally for another old guy vs. young guy feud, especially since Jarrett's been so good. (Also, 99%-of-his-career-shitbird-heel Jeff Jarrett yelling to keep Hangman's "fingers off of Tony Schiavone" is really really funny.) - I really can't be arsed to watch the main event though. Just give Okada and Takeshita a singles match already. And let Takeshita win. Edited September 19 by Curt McGirt 2
EVA Posted September 19 Posted September 19 I worry that Mortos is gonna get the Queen Animata treatment—wrestle every week and lose but get over in the process, then get sidelined to ROH or Rampage for a while, and by the time they bring you back to the main TV, you lost all your buzz. 2
Technico Support Posted September 19 Posted September 19 When Shafir grabbed the mic I had horrible flashbacks of straw hats and YOU DON’T KNOW MEEE! Beast Mortos in the red mask in the promo shots looks like the demon from Insidious. 2

That's my concern. He's so fucking dope. He needs a Harley Race type of mouthpiece and needs to be positioned as a monster even if he doesn't have that sort of monster size. 2
AxB Posted September 19 Posted September 19 AEW did such a great job of building animosity between Hangman and Jeff Jarrett that everyone forgot that the match already happened. Owen Hart Tournament 2024 first round, Jeff Jarrett vs A Mystery Opponent. All of the heat, all of the escalating dislike between them has happened in the wake of the match (which had a clean, decisive finish). But even though everyone's seen it, they've done a great job of building it to the point that people want to see it again (and this time, they want to see it with Jarrett's whole crew actually allowed at ringside so he can cheat better). 3
For Great Justice Posted September 19 Posted September 19 I don’t think Dubba J plans on hanging it up anytime soon, but The Last Outlaw “dying with his boots on” against Hangman as a TV main event next time they are in Nashville or Memphis is about as good as it’d get. 4
HarryArchieGus Posted September 19 Posted September 19 (edited) Thoroughly loved this one. Jericho v Orange was a hardworking solid bout. Nice opening contest paired nicely with a strong coffee. Morning viewing totally beats prime time for me. Pac/Claudio promo was fantastic, but the graphics/dialogue seemed a little at odds. Wheeler promo was alright, a slight improvement from Saturday. I think he might find his legs with this character. I'm hoping. I ffwd the Hook squash, no way am I watching a Hook squash. Seems like a viewership drain. Private Party promo was pretty okay - the right energy. The Patriarchy promo was fun as Christian always is. Somehow, to my own amusement, I've become interested in this Kip Sabian angle. He and Nick could be a fun heel tag team. Renee and Christian have great on screen chemistry. Attending to breakfast, I only sidewatched Mariah/Serena v Queen/Yuka, but enjoyed what I saw. I suspect it deserves an encore. I'm with Mariah's bad behaviour resulting in a DQ. Mina promo did what it needed to do. She might need a title run sooner than later. The Nigel/Brian video looked good from the sidewatch. The BCC/Private Party segment was fanfuckingtastic. I loved seeing those clowns take a beating. Kassidy/Quen actually truly needed this for all their shiitty Rampage sins. Now. A good fresh clean start. I'm interested to see where this goes. Kassidy in particular has been working hard for a long while. Quen, we'll see. Ricochet v Beast hit the mark, and expectations were high. Even moreso, dug the Ricochet/Ospreay segment. Ric's putting the right energy into this. Still hoping he finds a friend in Don Callis. The Hangman Page promo segment was sensational. Yes, yes, this is where it all comes together for Double J. Stoked like everybody for the forthcoming bouts. Ospreay/Fletcher/Takeshita v Bucks/Okada was a dazzling display of violent athletics. Very much as expected. Really looking forward to the inevitable pairing off of matches from this Main Event. Really happy to see some Collision highlights on here. (Edited out: some entrances, all commercial breaks, Hook squash and...) That was a great episode. TV Wrestling at it's finest. Edited September 20 by HarryArchieGus 5
DreamBroken Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Really enjoyed Orange/Jericho in the opener, loved Jericho's catch in to powerslam. Women's tag was shorter than expected but fun while it lasted. Really digging the build to Ospreay/Ricochet thus far and should be an epic for the 5 year anniversary event. Jarrett is the best, absolutely loving his rivalry wtih Hangman. Very good main event trios match. 3

COLETTI Posted September 20 Posted September 20 More often than not, I tune out when Jericho's match comes on, which is usually like, 9-9:30. Then I'll be watch the rest later with the benefit of fast forward. So yeah I'll catch up this weekend, glad to hear it's mostly great

Not an AAA guy (to my knowledge) but beating a guy like Atlantis might be a great way to start prepping Hologram for the next level (ETA: nevermind on that - thanks Mike!) Re: Jericho - I think part of what makes this current character of his so GOD damn frustrating (at least for me) is that, yeah, he can absolutely still go when called upon. '21-'22 was one of his best ever years in the ring, but with every "Hi, guys!" it seems so distant, you might as well be talking about his friggin TV title run in '96. Lionsaults, table bumps, B&G matches, vicious chop battles with Ishii and Suzuki, all on free TV... Look, I hate this Learning Tree shit too, but we're not talking Roddy Piper with the fake hip here.
