HarryArchieGus Posted September 21 Posted September 21 Last days of Rampage? Judging by the threads, I'm a higher voter than most on Saturday Morning Rampage. That said, I look forward to its cancellation. Briscoe v Keith was good solid meat n potatoes pro wrestling if a bit forgettable. The post match provided some thrills, and I'm game for the forthcoming Trios bout. Big Bill needs to thrash ppl more often. It's time. Sidewatched Wheeler v Butcher. I like seeing Yuta go a little nuts on the finish. The MxM promo was as sensational to me as it was terrible to somebody else. These guys are making the most of their minutes, and I'm a fan. The Max Caster twitter promo they were responding to was as mindnumblingly terrible as his insistence on calling himself the 'best wrestler in the world'. Bowens and Caster are easily my two least favorite promos in the company. They could learn a thing or two from Madden and Mansoor. Harley v Shida was a solid contest. Harley's selling and character work is outstanding. Future Champion. Almost feels wrong to be doing Hayter's angles on the C show, but stoked for the Saraya match. Beast/Roddy squash was fun. This is a fun team. Is it too early to say 'give them the straps'. Or at least push them for awhile - the tag division needs more aimless singles stars banding together. Deonna promo was good, and I like the idea of a faction around her, but less like starting this with Taya. Nick Wayne v Sabian v Lio v Romero was solid. All great hands. Wayne seems to have already come a long way from his flip flopping beginnings. This show was solid in-ring, but lacking the fun promos that bring the nice flow I tend to like. Still, Rampage baby. 4

Man, the Acclaimed really represent how fast tastes change these days in pop culture. A year ago they were one of the most over acts in the wrestling business. Now, I don't care if they show up at all. There isn't a real reason to pinpoint for it, either, they just kinda got stale real quick. It also doesn't help that Caster has kinda slowly show via social media that he is actually not a likable guy. 3
Technico Support Posted September 21 Posted September 21 I think the Acclaimed lost their edge when they became more gimmicky with the scissor stuff and Billy Gunn became their mascot. 5

It also doesn't help that Caster has kinda slowly show via social media that he is actually not a likable guy. It's been a lot longer than a year. I would argue there are many reasons to pinpoint. Their consistently pointless and often bad mic work would top that list for me. When they initially got a little over they became constantly used in bad comedy segments often celebrating some made up Scissor day. I don't entirely blame them for this, there are creative ppl deserving of blame too, but it's a clear example of two guys not making the most of their minutes. Few acts, if any, could float around on Television with so little meaning for so long. When they did find themselves in a deal with Jay White's crew it was completely disastrous. One of the consistently worst things to ever air on AEW Television. Further, Caster made himself a heel online. Somebody could probably inform on that better than I. The Acclaimed are what happens when you rest your laurels on a rap intro, a bad catchphrase, and a chant-a-long. All that said, I still see potential and hope they figure out how to steer the ship. 3
Go2Sleep Posted September 21 Posted September 21 The Daddy Ass/Scissor stuff was mega over and moved a lot of merch so I get it, but their trios title win was an absolute waste that led to them coasting as a comedy group for nearly a year. They tried to reboot them as a serious team this summer, and in fairness they did well in Blood and Guts, but they quickly lost all their momentum with the BS non-finishes against Bucks and FTR then losing at All In. Also Max Caster calling himself the best wrestler alive in a company where he's in the bottom 10% is deranged heel shit from a supposed babyface and completely undercuts the group dynamic. 5 1
MKERyan Posted September 22 Posted September 22 I take it back. Gimme Rush & Mortos as tag champs ASAP. 7
TimLivingston Posted September 22 Posted September 22 The Nigel stuff is falling flat. He doesn’t have the juice to hold this together without a retort from Bryan. The match is gonna be the thing that makes it, but the lead up has been essentially to crickets. 2
odessasteps Posted September 22 Posted September 22 I feared the worst when I saw Renee was trending on Twitter. I guess it was because she broke character and started laughing at something.

I liked both the Bucks match and the heated FTR match. The non-finishes worked well to build to the 3 way. I don't think that hurt them. I actually think the edgier heelish Acclaimed confronting FTR in Arlington was far more interesting than anything prior. I agree, they showed up for Blood n Guts. 33 minutes ago, TimLivingston said: The Nigel stuff is falling flat. He doesn’t have the juice to hold this together without a retort from Bryan. I haven't seen what he was up to tonight, but I wouldn't call the initial live promo nor the promo and package from last week's Collision flat. I thought both were sensational quarter hours. 2
COLETTI Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Darby/Uno and Deeb/Aminata were both very good n' stiff, although the wrong person won the women's match. 1
Mike Campbell Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Lots of good wrestling last night. But, the women's match was especially irritating by the end. Between that sick running knee and then the headbutt, Queen Aminata looked like an absolute killer. So of course, they pissed all over it by having Deeb take the headbutt and then proceed to get into the ring and finish her off easily. By the end of the Nigel segment, all I could think of was Dutch Mantell talking about the correlation between wrestlers and standup comics. "You know why a lot of guys go to five minute open mic nights? Because they can't do ten." 1 1
Ramo2653 Posted September 22 Posted September 22 (edited) I think The Acclaimed fall off is mostly related to how others have said they spent an entire year being a comedy act which ended with BBG chumping them. Gonna take some time to come back from that. Also Harley getting Renee to break was amazing. I assume she improved that bit where she ate the rules sheet. I watched Rampage and Collision this weekend but I can't tell you anything outside of the MxM bits, Harley doing great work, Mariah May doing her thing and Darby and Uno having a banger. HarryArchieGus Posted September 22 Posted September 22 (edited) I assume I might be in the minority (or only few saw it), but I thought this was a remarkable Collision. The Sammy/Dustin v Taven/Bennett bunkhouse tag opener was a total barnburner. Taven was secretly the MVP here. Great bumps and facials. Dustin, Sammy, Bennett were all awesome too. I bit a little on the later and melodramatic promo. Fail or not, I like seeing Sammy just trying to prove himself as a babyface. Regardless of any silliness, the Conglomeration/Athletes segment was a nice match set-up. Conglomeration v Athletes was silky smooth like it was coming off a house show loop. A better Athletes match. The MxM promo was dazzling. It's refreshing to see two new undercard wrestlers using their minutes so well. Mariah v Frost was a really nice strong showcase for the Champion. It feels like these live crowds are a bit split in either knowing Mariah, or knowing what to make of her. I think she's killing it every time out. Maybe my favorite current performer. Mariah's mannerisms and character work is so good. The Yuka/Mariah video awkwardly follows rather than leads into her match, but was a good recap. The Willow/Deonna/Taya promo was a good set-up for a match. I look forward to the eventual Deonna v Willow bout. I ffwd the Acclaimed promo. That's where were at. Turn heel please. Darby/Mox video was great. Fond of these packages. Darby v Uno was an excellent TV showcase. Darby seems to have the best matches with everybody. I like Uno's shirt and tie look. Reynolds bumped around nicely on the floor. Darby rules. Uno should do more competitive TV jobs. The match set-up promo/interaction was a nice set-up - I appreciate this commitment to show flow. Yeah, I'm with everybody disappointed in the outcome of Aminata v Deeb, but the match was a ton of fun. Also, Deeb going over sets up the Baker match. I'm okay with the Queen loss as I suspect they'll notice the swell of support coming out of it. I already think they have big plans for her. It's just a bit slower of a burn than her audience engagement suggests it ought to be. Are there ppl that think the Paradise Lock is a cool maneuver? I hate it so much. Renee/Harley/Saraya promo was awesome. You could see Renee kinda breaking as it faded in even. These ladies all rule. FTR/Hook/Outrunners v Roddy/Beast/Rush/GBV or GYV was pretty incredible overall. That said, would have much prefered splitting the time and teams between two matches. The Outrunners continue to rise. Roddy and the Beast or Beast and Rush as a team oughtta happen for everybody in the tag division. Nigel should not have called that Mortos top rop move a miss, but everyone makes mistakes. Nice to see Rush get the win and stand tall. Again, maybe I'm in the minority here, but I thought the Nigel McGuinness promo was excellent. I liked Schiavone's involvement. Nigel is a great talker. I've always liked him on commentary, but didn't really know his promo work before the recent run. I was well aware of his in ring from ROH tapes, but never really saw him in TNA. The build to this Danielson match indicates he's one of my favourite promos in 2024. This was a great blueprint for the B show. Edited September 22 by HarryArchieGus 3
For Great Justice Posted September 23 Posted September 23 The Acclaimed remind me of the old Teddy Atlas quote: it’d hard to wake up when you’ve got silk sheets They stopped hustling. What’s the last video they made? It’s the NAO playbook. 2
SovietShooter Posted September 23 Posted September 23 3 hours ago, HarryArchieGus said: I was well aware of his in ring from ROH tapes, but never really saw him in TNA. He had a series of matches with Kurt Angle that were excellent. In fact, they were probably underrated because they were in TNA. Search them out. 3
Phantom Lord Posted September 23 Posted September 23 I went to the first TNA House show in Coney Island and saw a really good Angle vs. Desmond Wolf (Nigel) match there. Don't know if there is video outside of the TNA vault though. As for this Nigel vs Bryan, I told my friend who's going to Grand Slam one of two things will happen. Either he doesn't show and Nigel wins by forfeit or Bryan does show and he hits the flying knee right away and wins in five seconds.

I was just saying before All In, wouldn't it be crazy if that was the finish vs Swerve. I could see it happening just for the shock value at least once before Bryan wraps up full-time, but IMO this isn't the match for it. I just read they moved like 4-500 tickets since announcing it, actually - I'd be worrying about pissing the audience off, since the appetite is clearly there
Log Posted September 23 Posted September 23 TK has his weak points as a booker, but so far he hasn't done a full-on "fuck the fans" move like either of those scenarios would be. 4
HarryArchieGus Posted September 23 Posted September 23 (edited) Odd babyface Jarrett promo on Collusion. Wouldn’t it be better to have he and Karen on the same page? Rather that than Colonel Sanders basically suggesting she shut her mouth. A bit tone deaf there. Liked the rest of the promo and totally into the strap match, but lame opening. Also, Karen's a bad ass, she should always want to see Jeff beat the shit out of a foe. Amusing to hear Jarrett actually name all the mid to lower card acts he’d like to see as lumberjacks. JLowe Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Collision was great other than Nigel’s never-ending bullshit at the end. If I’m being honest, they need to give him some time off after this because I think he’s been so over the top that it’ll be hard to have him go back to just being the heel announcer who pervs over Mariah (which also, what is up with that side angle?) Was pissed about Deeb going over (albeit with a rub for the Queen) but warming her up to carry Britt in her hometown makes sense. The MxM feud is a great chance to turn Acclaimed heel, but not sure they can do that at Grand Slam in their home town. Did not expect to see the heel team win the 10-man, much less Rush pinning Dax clean. That was the best Premier Atlhetes match I’ve seen, which makes some sense as this must be the 4th or 5th time they’ve run a variation of this match in the last two months.
