I wonder, since they got married and hence she can't be forced to testify against him, that Goodell went light on the punishment because he feared that a longer suspension would be easily overturned without actual evidence. Allegedly, Goodell saw video the public hasn't before he made his ruling, although whether or not it was the actual punch is unknown. (or if even that part is true at all.) Of course, someone would counter with Janay Palmer Rice's complicity/cooperation in staying with and marrying Ray even after he coldcocked her. Just the same, this situation stinks. I know the league is full of murderers and rapists, but there wasn't video evidence of those crimes. Kinda. They did the 'looking' over a year ago, and no one really knows the findings of it. They'd definitely be my last pick since so far they are the only group announced publicly that seems to be a risk to move the team, but because they did a study last year doesn't mean they'd definitely move it. They just looked at their options. Also, even though its a moot point, in New Jersey she still could have been forced to testify against him, 'spousal privilege' doesn't qualify if the abuse is against the spouse. Ask the Saints how much evidence he needed to suspend half the team including the head coach for a so called bounty system. Ray Rice drug his unconcious girlfriend out of an elevator, dropped her on the ground and casually kicked her leg out of the elevator door, that is all the evidence I would need. I know plenty of dudes, of different levels of character, I don't think I know any who would casually just lay his girlfriend on the ground like that in a public place even if she was just drunk. It just seemed People get convicted of plenty of crimes without video of their crimes, all the eye witness accounts should mean something. It happened in a casino. This reminds me of an argument I got into with a college proffesor about what people care about. She made a statement about how much people care about their health, and I argued how if there is one thing the vast majority of people don't care about is their health. Obesity goes up every year, people smoke, drink in excess, and do all types of other shit that is bad for their health. If they truly cared they wouldn't do these things. As a society we do not give a fuck about violence against women. We claim to be against it, but when it comes down to doing something about it we can't be bothered. No one in their right mind would have objected if he was suspended for the season, yet he gets two games and the world is just going to move on like it didn't happen. Like, stupid good. Every reporter at the Bills camp is gushing over him. They are still ripping the Bills for the usual stuff (Manuel, Red Zone, o-line, etc.) but no one has a bad word to say about Watkins. Very encouraging.
