JANUARY PRO WRES YAMMERING

If, in ten or fifteen years, it comes out that Cena had been politicking to keep other people's pushes down/himself on top, how surprised would you be?

I'm not saying he's done so - until recently practically all reports were that he was pretty much a company guy - but with talk of him nixing the Nexus, it just got me thinking.

You're on top, you have the ability to politic. He is the company's top drawer and he did the job to Punk and Bryan in important matches. He tried to get something out of Dolph in their feud. But he just can't be jobbing and he has the power to say "I won't job for him, on this show" but that is any top guy.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it seems likely that he is. I was just thinking out loud.

I guess that what I meant is that every top guy is going to do some politicking and get some input in his stuff. It's not so much politicking as it is being in a position where you can say "I'm not doing that" and I am sure that he is high on some guys and down on others and his opinion probably counts for something and he has the right to have it.

I expect Cena probably has done some politicking and refusing to job for certain guys.  I also think that, on balance, he's been a good guy about it and done more jobs than a lot of top guys would in his place.  I'll believe Undertaker is going to come back and put over Daniel Bryan or Punk 5 min after it actually happens.  Same with Austin, Rock, etc.  I shudder to think how Hogan or Dusty would put Bryan or Punk "over".

That said, Wade should have gone over Cena and gotten a chance to run with the belt.  I don't have a problem with him not wanting to put the group over.  WWE did nothing to get anybody new besides Barrett over.  The angle was over, and Wade could have gotten over.  The other members were non-factors.

To be fair, Rock put a lot of people over.

Where is the story f Cena nixing his losing to Nexus coming from?

Edge on Y2J's pod cast

It's likely that the discussion was about the finish of the match, not who's going over. Somehow I doubt that the talent has the say on who wins on the main event match in the 2nd biggest event of the year.

Nobody takes a Rock bottom like The Rock he makes it look like the most devastating move ever.

Sure they do.

Sure. But in the context of how Edge told it -- they were discussing the outcome of the match among themselves (Edge, Jericho, Cena) as if the book was theirs. May be Edge's story was incomplete or lacked some context.

Interesting that HHH's mindset has changed from the days of being the standard bearer for working hurt(you know, tore his quad and finished the match?).

There's a difference between finishing a match you're already in when you get hurt and being booked for new ones with a concussion or a torn quad.

The odd thing about Cena -- and you can't blame him for this, it's the way the machine is structured at his point -- is that even when he puts someone over in a match (Bryan, Punk, Lesnar, Rock), he almost never shows weakness elsewhere. Maybe because he's Overcome The Odds so much over the years, but I never feel like he's at a disadvantage in an angle. The "Cena is fired" angle, the loss to Punk at Money in the Bank, the Extreme Rules match with Lesnar - he's right back on top ASAP. Hell, even the loss to Bryan and time off due to injury combined couldn't keep him down for more than a couple of weeks.

It will be interesting to see how upcoming developments affect that.

In hindsight, when we hear whose pushes he red-lighted, we'll probably think that Cena had relatively good judgment for a long-term main eventer in determining which guys should be held down and which guys he was willing to put over compared to other guys with reputations for killing pushes.

Del Rio would've been such a huge star in the 80's. Being able to move from territory to territory would've benefited him greatly.

How awesome would it be if Del Rio and Wade Barrett redid all of those sweet video packages that Gino Hernandez and Chris Adams did in World Class? I would be way more in to that than what ADR is doing now.

How dare you talk down of Gino by comparing ADR to him.

It took both Orton and Cena getting in Vince's ear to get Kennedy fired. I really can't think of another instance of a dude being on the cusp of main-eventing, then getting canned because the two top guys in the company got tired of his shittiness.
