Brian Fowler
I'd kick, like, 25 bucks for it.
J.T.
I don't think there is a Kevin Smith thread on this board (and I fine without there being one) so I will mention this here. Smith said that The Weinstein Company passed on Clerks 3 Smith told Screen Daily that The Weinstein Company, who own the rights to the franchise, passed on the sequel. “[The Weinsteins] passed,” Smith said. “I went in with a $6 million budget and they were like, ‘Oh no, Kevin. This is too high.’ Bob offered us distribution, but they weren’t going to finance it.” Clerks 2 had a perfectly fine resolution. Why fuck with it? Let Dante live happily ever after. Because Smith hasn't had a hit movie in years and is in danger of going to straight-to-dvd hell?

Stennick
So then does the movie not have financing? I thought he said something about being able to finance it all on his own. Six million sounds low but I guess thats about right when the Askewniverse movies hit in the 25-35 range if I'm not mistaken. Isn't he doing some movie about a guy in a Walrus costume? Neil Koch
Smith could finance it on his own, he does very well with podcasting and live gigs. The issue is that the Weinsteins own the rights and aren't interested.
Brian Fowler
Well, they said they would distribute it. But I doubt Smith has six million just laying around. Self funded is gonna be a lot cheaper.
Stennick
Yeah they said they would distribute it so I would imagine he's free to make it if he can scrap together six million. Yeah no doubt Smith does well (is podcasting that big of a business though). I know nothing about the live gigs but it seems like Smith has a very niche but loyal audience. I would imagine that he's been doing live gigs for what like ten years now? I would imagine that his fanbase as well as just getting older in general they would also be less inclined to continue to see him but I could be talking out of my ass I'm sure the guy does just fine with it. Its kind of interesting how Apatow just completely took over his spot in Hollywood overnight seemingly.
Brian Fowler
Apatow found the line of where Smith's schtick meets the mainstream for damn sure.

odessasteps
Id rather see more Clerks cartoons than a third movie.
Stennick
I never cared for the cartoon I thought it was a bit goofy and honestly if Jay can't make a song about the word fuck then I'm not too interested in seeing it. I really enjoyed Mallrats, Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike back. The original Clerks didn't do anything for me, Chasing Amy was a bit pretentious and I thought Clerks II tried WAY too hard and really wasn't that funny. Watching it again even the whole Porch Monkey skit they did and the Lord of the Rings gag weren't that funny. I enjoyed Max and Miri make a Porno even if it was mostly an average Apatow movie. I never saw Red State but I loved the concept. Honestly though I kind of liked it when he just had his message board though. Listening to the guy on Podcasts he grates on my nerves really quickly. I will just file this away with Prisoners in the movies I will never be capable of watching My wife is the same as you, if there's a possibility of children getting hurt or dying, she's out. But she watched Prisoners a week or two ago with me and loved it.
Swift
The Captive got absolutely horrendous reviews at Cannes, so that may scare you off to begin with.
Elsalvajeloco
I didn't think Devil's Knot was a bad movie. It was just okay but not particularly memorable. From the reviews of The Captive, it seems like Egoyan is making movies that you can basically slot in faceless indie actors instead mainstream ones. Its kind of interesting how Apatow just completely took over his spot in Hollywood overnight seemingly. Pocasting itself isn't a huge money maker, basically the ads just pay for server costs and bandwidth. But the ancillary markets (TV shows, live shows, merch, etc) can make a lot. The top guys like Smith, Mark Maron, and Adam Carolla make seven figures a year. I'm not saying Smith could throw around $6 million like it was nothing, but using that amount to fund a movie wouldn't bankrupt him, either. Brian Fowler
Of course, he did scrape up something like 4 million from non-Hollywood investors to make Red State. I'm fairly neutral on Clerks 3. I think it's more just a vehicle for him to explore life in his 40's than any necessary story expansion, but Dante and Randal are characters I enjoy spending time with, and I'd go see it obviously. Whatever happened to Hit Somebody?
FluffSnackwell
The strangest thing about this Dracula: Untold Crock of Shit movie is that I swear to God I thought the big reveal in Noone Lives was going to be that the main mysterious asshole was going to be revealed to be Dracula.
