I also don’t really think Bud Matts would’ve signed an extension if he thought Malakai was leaving. He was moving like he was 90 after the match. I think that’s as far as it goes. I fucking hated that finish. “Adam Cole: Warrior babyface” is a huge misread of the situation. Mox’s group rules. There have been folks who have left WWE and gone to other places and it makes those performers look small time. The Hurt Syndicate makes AEW feel like a bigger deal. Those guys are fucking awesome. They need one more member. Someone to be Cedric Alexander; a faster paced high flying worker to complement the other two guys. I liked big chunks of this show, but there were some weird ass finishes. So Ricochet maybe for the Hurt Syndicate? And I know this will shock you but I totally agree on your Adam Cole point. I much prefer him as a heel, and trying to position him the way they have the last two weeks isn’t doing anyone any favors.
Curt McGirt Posted November 7 Posted November 7 (edited) That was a pretty goddamn good show last night, even the Cole match. He was definitely rusty but picked it up towards the end and Malakai was a mensch for giving him props afterwards. The Match Without Honor was INSANE. You wanna do a spotfest, give me that anytime. 20 minutes ago, Dolfan in NYC said: Mr. Pink: Why can't we pick our own colors? Joe: No way, no way. Tried it once, doesn't work. Only thing is he's currently feuding with Callis Family along with Hobbs and it's uncertain how long that will go for. If it were up to me I would have kept one of them away from all but those are the top two candidates in my opinion. I know MVP gave cards to Lio and Caster but I just don't know. Lio's been getting that edge and it put a small rift between Caster and Bowens. While there might be motivation for them to join each would look out of place. Plus Lio joining Lashley in another company might make people think about when they were a duo in WWE.

True that, but I'll accept the Wellness Policy to be without exceptions when there is some board of regulations looking over them. He's probably too far down the ladder to not get hit by it though. Archer might be a better fit, but I think he'll be AEW 4 Lyfe. He's their 911.
AxB Posted November 7 Posted November 7 WWE had Lance Archer. They gave him a short back and sides and he looked remarkably unexceptional.
Shartnado Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Hurt Syndicate came off as stars and a big deal. Swerve vs Lashley is a big match that hasn't happened much if at all. Statlander taking out Kamille almost by a lucky accident was a smart strategy, as the opportunity fell on her lap, but if this means no Kamille at ringside at Full Gear, it makes me a sad panda. Penelope was once again athletic and flexible but did end up getting knocked into next week by Hayter, as one would expect. Fight Without Honor and the opening tag were both good stuff. I was impressed by how enthusiastically The Bad Apple was there to take as many bullets for Jericho as needed, until he was eventually taken out and Jericho got pinned. Conglomeration getting a shot at the trios titles is definitely a match that should happen. Adam Cole getting inside Malakai's head by kicking out of The End was another story they tried to tell. Match was exciting at parts and awkward at others. Not a Jericho-Briscoe magic chemistry here, for sure. Ok, let's see Okada show us something at Continental Classic, then! Yeah, Hobbs looking like he ate all his previous tag team partners! Unlike Cole, he definitely took the leg injury time as an opportunity to work the fuck out of his upper body! Good main event, not great, but I will say a team of Ospreay, Ricochet, Hobbs and Davis would give The Death Riders some anxious moments for sure! Nice fire by Jay White. I'm sure their match with Hangman will rock as much as the last one. I wonder if there will be a stipulation, though? 2

Zimbra Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Yeah, if you go back and watch early AEW Malakai he is clearly moving much worse these days. Credit where due: I do think he generally does a pretty good job of working around it, but it's tough to hide in a singles match. 2

Was kinda disappointed that it was such a decisive win for Hayter as I was hoping that they would get a little program out of this. I feel like they've kinda zoomed through her revenge tour so to speak. I know the Newz~! sites were reporting that Hayter and Britt didn't have a desire to work with each other again for some reason, but that feels like a missing chunk of her story just left by the wayside. In theory Toni is left and she should be due to back at some point but she's got business with Mariah unless they want to just mix all that up. 2

username Posted November 8 Posted November 8 Oh yeah since people mentioned Takeshita having to make Cole look believable next week let us not overlook how absurd it looked for him to have to play dead for Ricochet's mid-looking axe bomber. AEW desperately needs someone to pull people aside and tell them when their ideas are bad. 2
HarryArchieGus Posted November 8 Posted November 8 The Hurt Syndicate/Swerve segment was fine. It started strong with MVP, but got a little corny with Swerve's growling one liner. Claudio/Pac v OC/Darby was sensational while it lasted. This sold me on the idea of Claudio v Darby at the PPV. Pac/Claudio looked like a well oiled machine. Give them the straps fast. The DQ finish felt warranted. I'm cool with the 'Death Riders'. Ricochet/Hurt promo amusingly went a little long holding the pose. Goddamn, I hope Ric isn't playing DDP here, he badly needs an MVP. Briscoe/KOR/Ishii v Jericho/Bill/Keith was good and solid whether I'm completely bored with Plunder or not. The Mox/Yuta promo was excellent as per usual despite the odd staging with Yuta. I thought Cole v Black was pretty strong, but I didn't buy the near fall on the End nor the melodrama that followed from Malakai. The post match stuff seemed unnecessary, but I enjoy a bit sportsmanship and camaraderie. The 'MJF watches on' cutaways are completely senseless. MJF's cameos have been some of the weakest and laziest creative I've ever seen on a Wednesday night. That Stat/Mercedes/Kamille segment could have used another take. The camera pan was far too quick from Renee/sound of the crash. I liked the simple Hangman/Jay White segment. Just adding a quick beat on the way to what will surely be a fantastic match. The Christian/Hook segment was terribly funny. I would love a Moratorium on security guards as fodder. The crowd goes mild as Hook wraps the redrum on random masked security. The Don Callis/MJF segment with the corny phone message was saved by villainous Don. I like heels working together. The Penelope v Hayter match was very solid. Good showing from Ford. The bridge into the cutter was spectacular.I hope Penelope's able to parlay this into a nice run of matches. Where does Hayter go next? I would accept and surely love a Mariah v Hayter feud. I liked the oversell Okada video package. Great use of Ross. Okada impolitely suggesting Chono's not an 'international superstar' was hilarious. Ricochet/Hobbs v Fletcher/Takeshita was (of course) an excellent main event. Nice return for Powerhouse. The exchanges with Takeshita stood out. Ricochet's moonsault from Hobbs shoulders would've benefitted from a camera angle switch - one not shooting Fletcher/Takeshita moving into position and standing, waiting. This match felt like it got everybody involved over. Post match included. This show provided some good clean fun. AEDubbya! 5
Leonidas Posted November 8 Posted November 8 First time since AEW's inception I'm finding I'm fast forwarding more than I'm watching. Hoping Ricochet (and Hobbs) join MVP because as stated above Rico could do with a manager. Learning Tree is fine fun stuff on the undercard. Deathrider's angle seems to be a slow burn, getting a bit frustrated with Mox talking in riddles though, we need to get to the meat of the sandwich now. OC is 100% losing, he needs to show more character change, in kayfabe he's been betrayed by Trent, Stat and Yuta and watched Chuckie get murdered in front of him. Hoping it leads to Bitter Orange. Bobblehead Adam Cole looks like a grown up man's head on a ten year old boy's body. He should be wrestling like Rey Mysterio, dodging and moving all the time not Hulking Up and going strike for strike with guys twice his size. It's ridiculous, I don't understand TK's hard-on for the guy. So he's nice irl, ok cool, still needs to be told to change his style though. It's getting to a lolcenacolewins stage. At least Takeshita won't hug him afterwards. I don't get Jay White either, although I can't pinpoint it as much with him, better off as a heel. Hoping Hangman mops the ring with him at Full Gear. Getting Hook to work with Christian is a perfect idea, shame they don't have a house show loop for him to really improve. He's going to beat the Prodigy and Sabian then lose to Cage before Joe comes back for the save. Hayter vs Ford was fun, could've been longer but understandable for how long Ford's been out. Agreed on that bridge-cutter sequence looking sweet and the camera angle was perfect. Can see them saving Hayter vs May for the next UK loop and as a Brit I'm fine with that . But Hayter does need something meaty to keep her busy for the next few months. Think they'd let her go over Mercedes? Actually a shame they didn't keep Stat heel, that would've been a fun program too. 2
EVA Posted November 8 Posted November 8 I legit think the fans will turn Cole heel if he goes over Takeshita next week. People have already been grumbling about the past two weeks, but beating a champion that the AEW audience really likes might kick the discontent into overdrive. 2
