ALL IN III - 8/25/2024

Recommended Posts

It was around this time last year that they announced that All In would be airing on free TV (on a 5 day delay) in the UK. Which hasn't been mentioned one way or another this time.

Hopefully it is, I'm paying enough to get into the building, I don't fancy also paying to watch the broadcast version after.

I ordered All In the day before it was announced it was airing for free. I was pissed. Have a good time.

Driving 6 hours to Cardiff for Dynamite/Collision, then a few days staycationing before travelling to London for RevPro (ZSJ vs Hechicero 😍🤩) then All In the next day. Week off work for a wrestling holiday!

I probably will cry over the BD/Swerve match regardless of outcome.

Your avatar makes me smile. Robin Hood was a childhood favourite of mine and my sister.

I was thinking how Tony Khan surprised us. We all thought Swerve Strickland vs. Will Ospreay for the AEW World Championship would take place here but instead it was at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. We then thought Will Ospreay vs. PAC for the AEW International Championship was the match but rather it's Will Ospreay vs. MJF. We thought the aforementioned Swerve Strickland vs. Will Ospreay would main event but instead it's Swerve Strickland vs. Bryan Danielson, Title vs. Career. I'm wanting Bryan Danielson to win. Danielson can drop it either to Darby Allin at AEW Grand Slam Dynamite 2024 or WrestleDream 2024 in Seattle.

I would bet anything he’ll be #2 in the gauntlet match.

Agreed. Renewing the PAC vs. Orange Cassidy rivalry.

Yeah, presuming Danielson gets the belt, I’m thinking Moxley wins the gauntlet. The original intent on BCC was to build to a Danielson/Mox split/feud, but a variety of different circumstances led to that never happening. It makes sense to at least run that match before Danielson goes on indefinite hiatus, and that’s the kind of match that could sell PPVs on a short build for All Out.

Weren’t they teasing Claudio turning  on the group at some point?

Sort of. He had an issue with Bryan teaming up with Eddie Kingston for Anarchy in the Arena, when Kingston had almost cost Danielson his life and career in a previous one (when Kingston was playing with gasoline and the endgame was Danielson being double team choked unconscious). He said he was wortied about Bryan's health and wellbeing. When Eddie went down with an injury and was replaced by Darby, Claudio was like "Oh, nevermind. Knock yourself out, I've got no problem with this." So, maybe it was just very true to his character dislike for all things Eddie Kingston that was clouding his judgment there for a moment?

Agreed. You can run the story Danielson is 0-2 vs. Moxley in AEW.

We very likely lost a Danielson/Kingston tag team match or two with the injuries this year.

Sucks Eddie Kingston injured himself so badly: Broken leg, torn ACL and torn meniscus. Did it good and proper.

Card is feeling very early 2000s WM-ish, trying to cram everyone onto the card while still having some epic top matches, except nowadays it isn't good form to tell the undercard guys to keep it under 6 minutes. This is gonna be like a 7-hour show, isn't it?

Possibly. Fortunately for those of us who live in North America, though, it starts early enough that we may be able to make it through the whole thing live anyway.

So to the Danielson fans that went from being super convinced they’re putting the belt on him no matter what to being more doom and gloom after this week what changed?

To me this week solidified he’s 100% going over. The Time Of Your life video being played after he said he’d use it at his funeral, Eddie Kingston saying he has basically zero shot at winning, Swerve bringing up his daughter even more and saying to bring her to Wembley. Nothing about that says oh yeah this guys losing. They’ve basically painted the picture of him being a complete loser this last week. Plus with ZSJ winning the G1 do they really miss out on running him and Danielson for his first title defense on October 20th at Royal Quest? I get that’s New Japan, but the story writes itself.

And no despite what some might think if I’m wrong the two words I’ll be using next Sunday afternoon/evening my time won’t be Good Riddance. They’ll be Thank You. Because while I don’t care for his melodrama he’s added and based too much of his AEW work around I’ll still miss him. He’ll just be the second best sendoff of the year (nothing for me tops Sting’s).

So far this event is looking like it will be the same length as their other PPVs, probably 4ish hours. The show is currently at ten matches, I suspect they'll add another match or two to the pre-show but 11 to 13 matches on a PPV (total) is the norm for AEW PPVs. Which I am all for, I'm paying $50 to watch a show I don't want it to be 2.5 hours, give me all the wrestling.

Me and my buddy were looking at the on-demand listing channel 509 for it if what we saw is true it's a 5-hour PPV with a 2 Hour preshow. The listing was 11am-11pm thus 2-hour preshow with a 5 hour show then a 5-hour replay.

I think that is just an estimate they block off in case the show goes 4 hours, 10 minutes or something. I don't think the main show will be five hours as they don't spend as much time with fluff. I could be wrong but from the match card it just looks like a "normal" length AEW PPV, although people's takes on if normal is good or not will vary.

While there are issues with the tag and trios titles, overall, this is a more purposeful and built card than last year. Last year felt a little Exhibition-y. A little Collision in Korea. This year feels like more of a culmination of many things: Danielson's AEW run, the Mariah/Toni story, Britt's return and Mercedes' year so far, the Jericho/HOOK story. Even some things which had build like Joe vs Punk last year felt like just two pieces stuck together.
