The Natural Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 (edited) Smiled seeing Sting/hearing Seek and Destroy by Metallica. I thought of Lisa/GG and Shartnado hearing it. Edited August 25, 2024 by The Natural 2
EVA Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 I really liked Toni/Mariah, too. I was a little iffy on that one going in, because the Timeless Toni stuff doesn’t always translate well into the ring, but they delivered. Wish Mariah could’ve gotten a little more color going, but I understand she’s not a veteran at that sort of thing. It was also helped by being the first non-gimmick title match and therefore, by virtue of being the first to use the belt as a weapon, did not cause me to groan loudly, unlike EVERY OTHER subsequent non-gimmick title match (besides the main event) in which a belt was used as a weapon. 1
Octopus Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 Hey guys, Danielson has officially surpassed Samoa Joe as the greatest AEW champion ever 4

I'm surprised Mariah May vs. Timeless Toni Storm went on so early as it was one of the anticipated matches thanks to the great build. It should have gone on later as it was for the top AEW Women's championship, the aforementioned build and looked on paper to be better than Mercedes Mone vs. Britt Baker which it was. Octopus Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 Temporary end of positivity. Hayter retuning on the preshow is fucking stupid and somebody needs to go to jail. 4
Jenalysis Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 Got to watch most of this show with my fiancee before work. She's not a big fan, but she enjoys AEW in decent-size doses, as long as I give her enough attention as well. So here's the perspective from the other half of the shared lesbian braincell! ^_^ The Ladder Match she was rooting for the BBG mostly because she knew I liked them, but she likes the House of Black also. She really does not like Christian. Didn't really do a whole lot for her, she's not really a huge fan of spotfests. She was a huge fan of Mariah, especially for the gear she came out in. She loves Toni too, and the while angle with her and Mina was really hype for her. That was her favorite match, and I thought it delivered as well. The Tag Match she was pulling for the Bucks, because she thought FTR was boring, and she really thought the Acclaimed were cringe. She also thought the Bucks were the only good wrestlers in that match. She doesn't care for FTR at all, and she really, really thinks Max is crap. The International match- she kinda ironically enjoyed MJF's shtick, though she admits its cringe. She wanted to like Ospreay, but the Ass Creed cosplay immediately turned her off, and she started rooting hard for MJF. She didn't remember who Daniel Garcia was, which surprised me, but Garcia did look different. She enjoyed the match even if the wrong guy won in her eyes. The Casino Battle Royale- she wanted Hangman to win, she was upset Christian won. I thought it was a dumb idea because it gave away the main event when it wasn't obvious who was winning. I really think with that finish, they should have had Hangman running down the isle as the finish was happening, just to make Hangman mald some more. She loved OC and ZSJ. The TBS match- she didn't enjoy it all. She dislikes Britt almost as much as I do, and she didn't like Mone. I thought the match was eh. The TNT match also did nothing for her- she thinks Jack Parry is just nothing, no charisma , boring wrestling, and she likes Darby and felt he was squashed. Liked Sting coming out. I thought the match was kinda meh. She loves Swerve a lot, and she likes Danielson a lot. She was happy Danielson won and enjoyed the match I think- I had to miss some of that due to driving for work. She had fun watching the show, and I did as well, thought we each felt some of it wasn't all that great, it kinda went something we loved and something we didn't alternating the whole time, with the not so good being ok. Was fun just watching a show with her for the first time in a long, long time. Can't wait to marry her in a couple months! 7
EVA Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 (edited) Lack of any Moxley presence on the show, and Pac seemingly becoming the new 4th guy in BCC, was troubling. Edited August 25, 2024 by EVA 1

peterien Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 I was in and out of watching this but one qualm I do have is (and I know this is how AEW does big shows but still) how they just rolled from match to match to match without leaving things (and the crowd) breathe. 1

I had the exact opposite feeling. Refreshing to watch a wrestling PPV that’s all action, as opposed to 50% wrestling, 50% commercials. Take a breath when you’re dead, there’s wrestling to watch. 8 5 2
username Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 The one qualm I have is that if you knew a while ago Bryan was winning at Wembley that makes it nearly criminal to have let Joe's gold watch/transition title reign go as long as it did when it meant Swerve would only end up with it for 4 or so months. Their reigns were almost the same length, even if one loves Joe that shouldn't happen when the guy he's keeping the belt warm for was getting those reactions.
Phantom Lord Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 Well I thought this was an excellent show for the most part. Solid from top to bottom. The ladder match was a bit ridiculous and almost came off as a human video game especially when everyone was trying to run up the ladder and someone would pull them off. I was surprised that BCC and Pac won. Toni vs Mariah should have been higher up on the card. That withstanding it wss a really good match. I really good it's not over between them because there do much more they could probably do. Glad Mariah won. I look forward to seeing her night. Only match I didn't care for was Hook and Jericho. It honestly could have been on Collision last night. Did pop for Hook and Taz hitting double taznissions at the end though. The three way tag title match was all right. I really thought The Acclaimed would win this one. I guess that didn't work for The Bucks. Loved the gauntlet match. I loved Nigels surprising return. He didn't miss a beat. Christian winning was a bit of a shock but I can live with it. Osprey vs MJF was really good. Hated the streamers though that were stuck above the ring for the rest of the night Aside from that I thought it was a great match. Britt vs Mercedes I thought was good, but is being trashed online. Was it perfect? No. But it was good in my view. I figured Kamille would factor more into the ending but she didnt. Darby vs Perry was all right. Could have just been a regular match. The coffin really added nothing. Loved Sting coming back post match to kick some ass. I don't care if he's 65. I wish he didn't retire. Bryan vs Swerve was great. I can't believe Bryan bled in front of his kids, but that added to the drama of it all. I'm so glad he won. He deserves a title run of significant length. Overall I enjoyed this show 2

Joe winning was oddly cathartic when AEW was at a low and looked at as unprofessional. Swerve beating him and then beating Ospreay legitimatized his run. Both were needed for the company (at least for me personally) when I was close to taking a break from the company. 6

More reason’s to love Phil!!!! Without the Brawl Out/In I don’t think we’d have gotten so many things I’ve loved. Starks vs Danielson too! Jungle Boy not being meh anymore! Elton John song as a wrestling show theme. Samoa Joe single handedly saving the company after Jungle Boy single handedly getting Punk let go. Other stuff!!!!! 1
jm29195 Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 (edited) Just trekked back across London after watching our second All In, this one with my youngest son (12), and it was another amazing show. Highlights for me were the Storm/May match, the Casino Gauntlet match, with Jarrett's reaction in particular just epic, and the main event. My personal best bit was the completely surprise Nigel McGuinness return, coming out to his ROH circa 2005 music, and getting the response he so richly deserved. Having first seen McGuinness/Danielson/Briscoe/Pac at events in leisure centres in the UK in 2005 or 2006, it was quite emotional seeing how far they've all come. Octopus Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 Now when Danielson loses it doesn’t have to be a hard retire. I want him to randomly show up in Mexico once or twice every other year. Maybe Uganda too! 1
Log Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 Judging by the pop that Rick O’Shea got, must’ve been a large Irish contingent at the show. 2 2

Casey Posted August 26, 2024 Posted August 26, 2024 Reddit tells me that TK and Danielson worked me about the retirement stuff and having no contract right now. What say you, DVDVR?
For Great Justice Posted August 26, 2024 Posted August 26, 2024 So Ospreay is going to “I’m sorry; I love you” Danielson with the TD91 in a year or two when BD really does call it quits, isn’t he. Big foreshadowing of that in the lead up stuff.
