Hopefully Thea/Roxanne gets the main event. Really though it should have been on a PLE outside of the CWC. Lash/Jakara vs. Sol/Karmen was solid. Was nice to see Jakara get a good amount of time in the ring compared to her usual. Sol and Karmen worked well together and had some neat moves. Was a bit weird not seeing Lash as dominant as she usually is though I kind of liked how easily and hard the end came for Karmen to make up for how earlier parts of the match with her played out. Looking forward to the title match with Unholy Union. It will be good chance for both Lash/Jakara & Alba/Isla to show off in ways they don't always get a chance to do. With all the talent headed in (Giulia, Vaquer, DELTA, probaby Jordynne Grace), and Roxy probably headed to the main roster in the not too distant future, there's no reason to hold off on Thea vs Roxy. Jakara is a mystery. She has the look and personality in spades, and I think she looks good most of the time in matches, but she gets so little ring time, less than the greenest of rookies.
Greggulator Posted July 24, 2024 Posted July 24, 2024 I was sick as hell Monday so did not watch a lot. But I love the whole Sami/Jey pairing and entrance. It serves two really important purposes: 1) It makes Raw look like the most fun thing you could go to live or watch on TV. That’s the whole point. The Attitude Era is awful in terms of degrading content. But the secret behind Raw back then and Nitro was that the shows were fun to go to live and to watch. It wasn’t Sable stripping that made people watch. It was the fun. 2) Pretty sure they’re building to Bloodline vs. Bloodline at War Games, and this is a perfect way to start reminding the audience of the complications between Jey and Sami in The Bloodline because the whole arc is going to be about the challenges of putting the band back together and Sami and Jey trusting Roman and Jimmy before they go after those punks led by Solo. So well done. Also: I’m pretty sure the Liv/Rhea/Dom love triangle stuff is going to end with Finn and Liv being in cahoots this whole time due to Finn’s jealousy of Damien and it’s going to lead to a similar “split of The Judgement Day” war. I can get behind that since The Judgment Day have been the heart and soul of Raw for like two years now. They are kind of like The New Day in how DOA they were when they arrived (even though Rhea is can’t miss no matter what) and now how important they have become. Finn wasn’t doing anything until he schemed his way into taking Edge out. Dom went from being Rey’s scrubby son into one of the best characters around. Damien Priest is the world champ. Rhea is the best. They have also managed to make JD McDonough, R-Truth, Carlito and Liv Morgan important and key players. Great stable that came out of nowhere. 5

Thea is one of the most over women in NXT. Honestly, I thought it was weird they went with Lola over Thea for Heatwave given Thea was already a face and easier to book. I just think its a shame its not happening on a bigger show since it likely would be guaranteed a good reaction. Less sure about Gulia and Vaquer or even how they plan to use them. Not sure if Delta was picked up, and I know little about her. I still wonder if Grace actually comes in, and if she does, does she actually work NXT for a while given the level of her experience. With Jakara I think the women's tag titles being taken out of NXT screwed things up somewhat. And then her injury made things worse. Still she has been healthy for months now so it weird she doesn't get more of a chance to showcase. Lash stands out more in the ring due to her size, but I agree that Jakara looks mostly good with the little ring time she gets. Kind of hoping she goes for the WNA title at some point while Lash goes for the Women's title. 1

Very clever of him - I'm fairly certain that he gets a cut of those sales since he's mentioned on the shirt. So he's both furthering the storyline and boosting awareness of merch in which he shares in the profits. 1
Iron Moose Posted July 24, 2024 Posted July 24, 2024 NXT was weird. It feels like a lot of characters from the past few episodes or arcs were absent or refreshed. Lola is making nice with Karmen, Sol was unusually reserved in-ring, the Jacy/Fallon/Jazmyn trio (along with Oba, Ariana, and Jaida/OTM/Mia/Gallows/Anderson) were missing and while Lash/Jakara getting a shot at the Unholy Union is nice and unexpected, there might be more suspense to it if Oro wasn't tied up with Page, Dar wasn't injured, and maybe even if Trick wasn't distracted. The camera angle on Kendal heaving Borne was also iffy. On the other hand, I feel vindicated for being a high voter on Wren Sinclair. 1
DJ Hero Morganti Posted July 25, 2024 Posted July 25, 2024 Also didn't his meme shirt have punks name on it?
Cliff Hanger Posted July 25, 2024 Posted July 25, 2024 Kendal Gray wears that exact same outfit every time she corners for Carlee Bright. Not a lot to say, thought this was a weaker show than a lot of the recent ones, but holy hell that main event was beautiful. 1
Dolfan in NYC Posted July 25, 2024 Author Posted July 25, 2024 Apparently CM Punk is trying to restructure his contract. However... it's not what you think when you first read that. He apparently loves the WWE now and wants to become a lifer. The word is he wants to do his final run and then when he's ready, "just settle down and run NXT." This is a reminder that the Jack Perry incident happened less than 11 months ago. Crazy times. 5
Iron Moose Posted July 25, 2024 Posted July 25, 2024 (edited) I anticipate a Stephanie Vaquer / Lola Vice match. Following the inevitable taunt, it would be absolutely delightful if Stephanie could look confused for a moment, and then deadpan to the camera "I am also a Latina. " Edited July 25, 2024 by Iron Moose 1

As time passes I find myself wanting to like Punk again. The past is the past and it really sucks. But many were saying how he'd be gone in a very short time yet he's still there and yes that is accounting for his time off injured. So if he's in a better space and is a benefit to those around him then I might be closer to being on board. 2
EVA Posted July 25, 2024 Posted July 25, 2024 I am 100% in on the theory that Drew has the green light from the office to push Punk as far as possible, by any means necessary, to test if he’ll snap again. 1

I honestly think Punk is the one giving the green light. I can see your theory yet not sure why they would risk jeopardizing a good working relationship. Either way this feud has been interesting since January so whatever is going on is working.

Eivion Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 Knight/Escobar was solid. Post match beatdown by Santos and Paul was a nice heel moment for both. Tag gauntlet was good though they have had stronger in the past. Highlights were easily the Street Profits matches against Corbin/Crews & Pretty Deadly. Profits and PD continue to look great as usual, but Corbin and Crews work so much better together than expected for such a random pairing. Bayley/Mia vs. Nia/Tiffany was pretty solid. Dug Bayley havign to fight off the heels on her for so long after the pre-match beating Mia took. Was nice that Mia still got in a decent moment with the hot tag late in. There were less matches than I would like normally, but the tag at least took up a good amount of time. Tag gauntlet was the standout hough everything was solid at worst. the segments were fine, but none of them particularly stood out as memorable to me. Was happy to see both tag title match built and set up for next week. Also looking forward to Melo/Andrade II. Solid show. 2
Cliff Hanger Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 I have nothing to say about Smackdown. On LVLUP mostly I just fucking hate Cutler James, and I think it's mostly his gimmick. I fucking hate his "aw shucks I'm a small town guy trying to make it on the big stage" shtick and I really, really hate his white picket fence tights. A lot of this is personal baggage, because I can't not associate that iconography and attitude with places like where I grew up, where there are no sidewalks and someone like me can't leave the house without help. But also, the fact that people are now calling Dante "the Gatekeeper" as a compliment weirds me the fuck out. Matches were fine by LVLUP standards, there was nobody there to elevate them beyond "decent LVLUP match" but no obvious fuckups or injuries either.
Peck Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 Street Profits woke up that morning and decided to just drop people on their heads that evening.
