Is it weird that I always refer to Elvira as "Cassie" like I know her personally? I have no clue why I do that. Maybe when you see her do a strip dance with tassels while your grandmother sits there nonplussed when you're like 9 years old, it makes you feel like that?

E1 of Uzumaki was fucking awesome.  Available now on Max if you don't have CN or Adult Swim OnDemand.

The reports of my death were premature.

Companion

Quote

New Line Cinema—the studio that brought you “The Notebook”—and the unhinged creators of “Barbarian” cordially invite you to experience a new kind of love story…

Written and directed by Drew Hancock (“My Dead Ex,” “Suburgatory”), “Companion” stars Sophie Thatcher (“Yellowjackets,” “The Boogeyman”), Jack Quaid (“The Boys,” “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”), Lukas Gage (“Smile 2,” “Dead Boy Detectives”), Megan Suri (“Never Have I Ever,” “It Lives Inside”), Harvey Guillén (“What We Do in the Shadows,” “Blue Beetle”) and Rupert Friend (“High Desert,” “Asteroid City”). The film is produced by the filmmakers behind “Barbarian”—Raphael Margules, J.D. Lifshitz, Zach Cregger and Roy Lee. The executive producers are Tracy Rosenblum and Jamie Buckner.

The trailer is borderline NSFW due to more blood than a normal trailer would have. Oh and a dude getting stabbed in the neck

Alright, my sig has been plugging this for months, so here's the first trailer.  Somewhat NSFW, but it's a horror trailer so what can you expect. 🙂

A TASTE OF YOUTH

Mateo's fears of getting older manifest as his 46 birthday looms, and all the hours in the gym and miracle elixirs can't stop the ticking clock. Except for one.

It felt like I'd been waiting for Uzumaki for years, and it ended up being the most disturbing thing ever. Shocking, really, to someone as hardened as myself.

Anyway, speaking of which:

Any newer (last 5-6 years) horror flicks out on streaming worth checking out? Right now I just have The Shining, Doctor Sleep, and the new Salem's Lot on my list to catch this month. Thinking of maybe Uzumaki as well.

Going in blind to The Void is such a treat. I only just saw it over the summer and I adored it.

This year I’ve been doing a deep dive on horror from the last decade + (basically since I started having kids and didn’t have time to watch as much.)

I dragged my daughter to a midnight showing at Alamo and we both went in blind- all we knew was it was a horror movie. Blew us both away, and we still reference years later

Another good one to go into blind is The Empty Man. It's on Disney+, maybe other services. One of my favourite recent horrors

Amateurs.

Fuck yeah, that is a real mistake on their part. Do it, pull an H.G. Lewis! Has to be cheaper than those movie-themed popcorn boxes they come out with nowadays, too.

The Void is 100% recommended on this front. I could suggest another film to pair it with and make a double feature (two, actually) but that might give something away.

Weirdly (or maybe not), I absolutely love Astron-6 but of all their projects I feel the least personal enthusiasm for The Void and Psycho Goreman. I'd absolutely recommend their films The Editor and the hilariously tasteless Father's Day.

I regret to report that the new SALEM’S LOT is not good.

If you’re gonna do that story in under 2 hours, you gotta make it a lot tighter and scarier than this.

Bill Pullman’s kid gives one of the most wooden performances in recent memory.
