  1. Nailed it. Listen, I'm not a "YOU MUST LOVE EVERYTHING AEW DOES OR YOU'RE NOT A REAL WRESTLING FAN!" guy. I'm also not against anyone liking what WWE is doing right now. I, personally, myself, only speaking for me, just prefer the style of wrestling AEW puts out and I prefer the way they present it. That's it. But, goddamn, I could do without all the "sky is falling" posts. Every. Single. Goddamn thing that happens has the same couple people yelling about Khan losing control or the company closing down or whatever. That part is exhausting to me. Somehow, it's gone from Punk being in AEW would lead to their downfall! Then it was Punk leaving was the end! Now it's Punk being in WWE is the end! Somehow, having Danielson as a sort of talent liaison or whatever is the end! It's all the end! Ok, fine, we get it.

  2. Let's sum up the last week, because it's just insane how these news cycles go.. On Sunday they signed Ospreay. Also, everyone was grumpy about the MJF match. Then... Last Tuesday: People are frustrated about the tournament since no brackets were announced. Wednesday: They do the tournament show and people get really excited. Dynamite happens with some fun tournament matches and more announced for Collision Saturday: Punk comes back. Everyone says the sky is falling. Monday: Punk cuts his milquetoast promo and everyone says things are probably fine; Dynamite beat Smackdown in the ratings. QT posts that he's leaving as everyone else is posting rah rah AEW posts. MJF reveals he's more injured than we knew. People freak out. Tuesday: Danielson news comes out. QT thinking AEW is becoming like NJPW actually makes everyone feel better. Initial All In tickets are pretty good too. Today: Collision rating is going to be very very bad. People will freak out. Dynamite will probably be very good leaning on the tournament matches. Tomorrow: Who the hell knows? It's just exhausting, right?

  3. Look, you let me have my daily 3:45 cry whether I need it or no- Oh, you mean about AEW. No. Carry on.

  4. QT could have contributed a lot more as a Bobby Heenan type manager who can wrestle and he decided that he wanted to be a wrestler who can manage instead. There were a number of things I thought he did well, like getting clowned by -1 in Dark Order vs Factory 8-mans. There were other times where he didn't maximize an opportunity, like the Orange Cassidy match that should have been a lot better. He never figured out how to transfer his go away heat into actual drawing heat, but being one of the few guys in the company that fans actually disliked instead of just ironically disliked, he at least had the opportunity to do so. It sounds like in some ways, he couldn't get out of his own way. He was able to leverage his work ethic and connections into a mid-30s gig that probably should have been beyond him relative to the career he had so far and then leveraged that into something bigger and more corporate. I guess it's good for the guy to bet on himself at 38. He obviously was able to position himself as a slightly bigger deal in Mexico. He could be a top guy in a TNA/NWA/MLW level promotion probably or he could be an agent in WWE which seems to defeat a lot of the purpose. So long as he stays classy, he can probably come back, if not at his previous level, then with some meaningful gig in AEW.

  5. Tony may have had a committee to decide on Punks future because he was directly involved in the incident and didn’t want to leave Punk any room for suing for it being a retaliation firing cause we know CM Punk can be a litigious fucker. This gives AEW security, even if Tony was going to fire him anyway

  6. Imagine being such a towering douche canoe that you leave "sad" reacts on people's posts where they enjoy AEW - that's where these conversations come from, so I'm assuming there's just people who have yet to ignore this total fuckwit.

  7. The sentiment might be because I was specifically away from the internet from Thursday to Monday, so it was a bizarre trip, and I will stress that I don't necessarily mean here. DVDVR is a bastion of reason in a sea of quick takes and people trying to get themselves over whether they realize it or not just due to the inherent nature of social media.

  11. The 3:45 cry, easily the most important cry of the day. Then, afterwards, the 6:30 cry and the 10:15 cry when it sets in you have to go back to work in the morning.

  13. The most Davies thing to ever Davies. At one point we thought that Who could be better, outright demanded it to be, but after years of Chibnell, this dumb shlock works fine. Tennant was lovely and older, more subdued Donna was at least a temporary improvement.

  15. I totally forgot it was the soccer board that finally got FSW banned. Honestly as a DVDVR in-joke the best reveal ever for the AEW Devil would be Antichristo recreating his classic promo...

  16. Punk being aware of FSW will always be my favorite DVDVR lore.

  17. I'll always find it impossible not to like Punk for the secret best bit of meta weirdness in internet history. I just love the idea of him researching the history of Liverpool FC and spending hours posting in the footballsoccer thread just so he can go undercover as an Englishman living in Canada to troll himself on a wrestling forum for months on end. If Tony Khan was a real DVDVR guy he'd pay Rafa Benitez to unveil himself as The Devil and cost himself millions driving away confused fans just for the sake of the world's greatest possible, multi layered in-joke.

  18. Apparently God's Hate had a show the day after Full Gear and Brody's patched wounds opened back up and he played bleeding all over and I just imagine him with a crimson mask yelling out the lyrics to "Finish The Job" while people are going ape shit in the pit and suddenly I feel like the world ain't too bad really...

  26. Is it? People say stuff is exhausting that kind of just rolls off my back. Like a news cycle with devastating real world implications is mentally taxing. But this is just wrestling stuff. The ratings stuff is whatever, people always have their ratings takes and the sky is rarely actually falling. The QT and Danielson stuff is fine from a gossip POV but little else. They washed their hands of Punk months ago, so who cares from an AEW perspective? The only thing slightly troubling is the MJF news, but all I can do is wish him good health, not a lot of mental energy to spend there. I don’t know. Seems like it’s just wrestling. I don’t mind a busy news cycle if that’s as bad as it gets.

  27. I'll definitely cop to being a 'sky falling' guy on occasion, including earlier this week - but it's born out of an intense desire for AEW to succeed, not the opposite. It's more of a "WCW sale/ECW bankruptcy derangement syndrome" thing for me - I know I can be hypercritical of AEW at times, but I'm hopeful everyone understands that it's well-meaning.

  32. Never gotten the love for Donna. I thought she was the most annoying companion by far(I've only watched NU WHO), though a few later ones have come close. She was much better in this ep, I agree. Too bad they didn't do Martha Jones instead. .

  33. She looked incredible when she went into the WWE Hall of Fame back in 2011. She cleaned up, got back in shape, looked and sounded great. It sounds silly now but I was really proud of her knowing how low she'd fallen even back then in the 00's. I always thought that that not leading to her getting another run or a job with WWE contributed to her further downfall because she was back to being a mess pretty quickly after that

  34. The committee as originally comprised was three members: Danielson, AEW’s general counsel, and an outside attorney. No idea if they’ve maintained that composition, I think Danielson’s the only one reported as currently being on it. And let’s be honest, we all only care because it’s Danielson.

  35. An aside but... Summer 1999 David Flair was actually one of the most fun takeoffs on the whole "promoter pushes his son" concept it's just that David Flair actually did suck in the ring and he really wanted to be a Highway Patrolman instead of a wrestler. Also it was 1999 WCW and basically everything they did was doomed to suck. Bruce Prichard being a rules stickler calling himself "The Cowboy" would easily be better than the weekend he spent as Reo Rodgers before everybody decided "let's not do this anymore" because it's possible to be too shitty for the 1993 WWF.

  39. I think she's absolutely fantastic ever since her great showing against Meiko Satomura in the 2018 Mae Young Classic and she's been an excellent addition to the Impact Roster Some of my top favorite matches of hers from Impact: -vs. Tasha Steelz (Countdown to Victory Road, 9/23/22) -vs. Miyu Yamashita (Impact, 3/30/23) -vs. Masha Slamovich - Dog Collar Match (Against All Odds, 6/9/23) Her against Emi sounds awesome!

  40. Don't get me wrong, I'm psyched as shit for this - but I'd be a liar if I didn't say that part of me is still holding out for a "Champ Emi makes her challengers and self look like a million" tour. Side note: speaking of joshis, is Yuka still under contract? I was thinking about her the other day when I was reading Gord's video game post (she's one of the few women in it, and I always thought that she was an interesting inclusion).

  41. Still haven’t seen last week’s Rampage, finished Collision last night and the two CC matches were great, really wanted Garcia to win and glad for Brody on his big upset (or is it?). The rest of the show was pretty off, lots and lots of botches. Hell, even the main event saw Brody almost kill Kingston on Dante’s Inferno and a pin where one of Eddie’s shoulders was clearly on top of Brody’s leg. Also, Bill’s promo was wild and out of left field and I think it caught Ricky off-guard although he recovered well. Really excited about the CC matches on both shows, expecting Briscoe and Rush to top their stiffness and violence from last week.

  45. I would've like to have seen QT more on ROH, his last aired match was on there against Daga last month and was one of the best matches of the episode but he was never on again other than that.

  46. As far as QT goes, I always liked him as a mid-card heel. Good wrestler, good talker, pretty entertaining in the right role. My first thought was he's probably going to WWE but we shall see. If he left because he thought AEW needed to be more "entertainment" than "New Japan", c ya! It's already been going in that direction and it sucks. I've said it before but there's a level of silliness and comedy and goofiness that I love in wrestling that AEW has managed to pull off really well at times, but I'm not a fan of the sports entertainment WWE/TNA stuff that, based on QTV, he is If he left because he wanted a bigger push, again, don't see him any higher than midcard in AEW. I think WWE is probably a better place for him anyway, he'd be a great midcard heel there and probably a better fit without the baggage he already has in AEW where a lot of fans just don't want to see him at all
    2 points
  47. I mean if his idea of "entertainment" is QTV... I agree with your second paragraph and have felt that AEW could do more storytelling and less Super-Indy, however I do like tournaments as they give wrestling a real sports feel
