George Maharis, the star of “Route 66” who went on to appear on “Fantasy Island” and other shows, died Wednesday in Beverly Hills.

His friend and caretaker Marc Bahan announced his death on Facebook, writing that he was “above all a great guy who would do anything for anyone. My dear friend, you will be terribly missed.”

Maharis co-starred with Martin Milner in the early 1960s series “Route 66,” and received an Emmy nomination for his role as Buz, a handsome beatnik-adjacent working class man. Shot on location across the U.S., the crime drama portrayed two young men who travel around in a Corvette, looking for work and adventure as they struggle to find themselves. Part way through the third season, Maharis left the show after being hospitalized for hepatitis. He asserted later in an interview that his departure wasn’t because he wanted a higher salary or wanted to get into movies, but strictly for his health.

He went on to appear in a number of films, including “Sylvia,” “The Satan Bug” and “The Happening,” before landing another series role on the 1970 series “The Most Deadly Game,” which ran for 12 episodes. Maharis was one of the first celebrities to model nude for Playgirl.

Maharis continued working in television throughout the 1970s and ’80s, playing several different roles in six episodes of “Fantasy Island” and making guest appearances on shows including “Murder She Wrote,” “Police Story,” “Kojak,” “The Bionic Woman,” “Cannon” and “Barnaby Jones.”

One of my favourite Arrested Development gags was George Michael deciding to change his name to get away from the similarity to the singer and "that incident" and deciding to change his name to George Maharis, the same actor whom had once been arrested for having sex in a gas station bathroom with Perfecto Telles (Whose name comes up later as someone dating Maeby).  The Maharis incident is never referenced on the show and is only funny if you happen to know the story (Which I did not until I saw something online).

Peter Simonischek, the Austrian actor who starred in the movie Toni Erdmann and was known for his work on theatre stages, in films and on TV, has died at the age of 76.

Austrian public broadcaster ORF, German news agency dpa, and other media outlets in Austria and Germany reported the news on Tuesday without immediately detailing a cause of death. The Burgtheater in Vienna, Austria also tweeted that Simonischek, a member of its ensemble and an honorary member of the theater, had died overnight.

The actor regularly appeared at the Salzburg Festival, where he was known for playing the title role in the play Jedermann (Everyman), which the festival has put on regularly, numerous times. For his role in Maren Ade’s 2016 oddball dramedy and Oscar nominee Toni Erdmann, opposite Sandra Hüller, Simonischek won the German Film Award, or Lola, and the European Film Award for best actor. Among others, he was also nominated for a London Critics Circle Film Awards, as well as a Toronto Film Critics Association Awards.

Barry Newman, the Emmy-nominated actor who starred in the 1971 cult action thriller “Vanishing Point” and as the eponymous lawyer in the NBC series “Petrocelli,” died on May 11. He was 92. No further details are currently available on his death.

In “Vanishing Point,” Newman played former race car driver Kowalski, a speedster that darts around in a Dodge Challenger after becoming entangled in a criminal conspiracy. The film is regarded as one of the defining American action films of the ’70s by genre enthusiasts.

Two decades and change later, Newman would play a heavy in Steven Soderbergh’s fractured crime yarn “The Limey,” which featured a second act car chase involving the actor getting back behind the wheel.

Pat Cooper has passed away at age 93.

Absolutely brilliant comedian, though apparently the bitterness was not an act and he burned a ton of bridges along the way.

That's a shame. I enjoyed his direct to DVD sequels to The Substitute that he did. I keep meaning to watch Deep Rising, as I've heard it's a pretty fun flick but just never got around to it. Looking at his IMDB it looks like he worked pretty steadily the past 25 years so good for him. RIP.

No.  Watch The Phantom and witness the glory of Treat Williams in the role of bad guy, Xander Drax, and see him devour all of the scenery in every single scene he's in.

RIP.
