Bustronaut
Johnny Good vs Johnny Next (Morrison) would be a fun one-off.
Phantom Lord
I admire Dean for wanting more creative freedom rather than just taking the easy money and phoning it in for another few years. The WWE never scratched the surface of his potential and that's just more about them having blinders on more then anything else. Sure Dean was WWE champion, but that was for Smackdown and the WWE Title is well established to be below the Universal Championship. So in WWE terms he's accomplished nothing. I had hope for Dean when he did this heel turn though. I thought maybe we'll get the old Dean back. That could have been fun.
Fallacy!
Does seem like a work, especially after the "father in law" line to HHH last night.
James F'n X
ESPN's reporting it now. Are they willing to work one of their major media and coverage partners?

hammerva
Must say ESPN announcing this is really weird. I mean was Ambrose that big of a star in the company?

MonteCarl
Maybe it's a Pillman thing, where they will actually go through with not renewing his contract, thus they are not "working" anybody reporting that he's not re-signing, but with it agreed upon that he will come back to work an angle when he's "unsigned"
For Great Justice
My reaction after seeing the press release was that they wouldn’t do this if it wasn’t a work. But then I saw the ESPN bit. So either this is the worst kind of “da BOYS in da BACK!” Russo deal or just extremely strange. Why do this if it’s real?

RIPPA
It's entirely possible to be real and used in a story One theory I saw noted that it is possible that they are planning on running a Nia Jax/Ambrose match and that they acknowledged he was leaving now so as not to come off later as OMG HE LEFT BECAUSE HE HAD TO WRESTLE A WOMAN!!!
John from Cincinnati
Being transparent and treating an employee’s wishes with respect shouldn’t be so shocking. These are strange times, so even WWE seems to be giving it a shot.

HumanChessgame
Last night made it look like they're building a HHH/Ambrose program for Mania. If WWE wasn't publicly advertising the situation I'd say maybe they go with the stipulation that Dean gets fired if he loses.
Brian Fowler
1 hour ago, Rick said: Yeah I'm leaning towards it being a work. WWE have 3 months to negotiate. They are fighting tooth and nail to keep talents locked down, look at the Revival, why would they let Dean go when a 3 month window to renegotiate is still in play? The way last nights Raw played out made it seem like it's the beginning of a work, I don't believe it. According to the original report, Dean told them flat out he's not interested in negotiating, he's not angling for a better deal, he's just done. Assuming he convinced them that he really won't negotiate, they might as well get out ahead of it and prepare for life without him. Let him put over Nia and call it good. I mean, it could be a work, but to what purpose? So he can get a surprising midcard win at Mania?

I mean, it could be a work, but to what purpose? So he can a surprising midcard win at Mania? I'm not reading too much into the Nia stuff. I figure Dean's facing Hunter and they're rehashing Punk's storyline. I mean, Ambrose going rogue on Raw, the barbs at Trips, the HBK overly elaborate selling, staying in the ring following commercial breaking fourth walls, then the news coming out from WWE themselves about Ambrose's contract is masterful trolling/working. We know WWE have ramped up their social media presence and encouraged the talent to use twitter to further feuds and air out their grievances, I figure WWE reporting the news about Dean's contract is an extension of that. It's brilliant.

Niners Fan in CT
It could be a work/shoot situation where they play into the fact Dean is leaving while also secretly negotiating with him so if he leaves there's a story line and if he re-signs they play that into a future story.
