The Nature Boy
I'll hand in my man card for pointing this out but........... The baby at question in "Papa Don't Preach" would be almost 30 by now.
Greggulator
Billy Bragg was on Page B5 of the Wall Street Journal today, which totally weirded me out. He's speaking out about YouTube's new terrible rates policy for indie musicians. So, naturally, I am listening to my favorite Billy Bragg song on YouTube right now. This is seriously one of the all-time greatest songs. I saw Billy Bragg at an in-store appearance at the record store a few blocks from my house two years ago. I live in Manayunk in Philly, which is largely (and rightly) classified as a frat kid bar version of hell. But there's one really great record store and that makes all the difference. Greggulator
I'll hand in my man card for pointing this out but........... The baby at question in "Papa Don't Preach" would be almost 30 by now. And I'm predicting by the nature of the song the baby at question might have a daughter entering her junior year of high school.
Greggulator
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfRI1XjDFCU Billy Bragg sent me into a Kirsty MacColl wormhole which sent me to the Tracey Ullman (yes, THAT Tracey Ullman) of "They Don't Know." It's so friggin' good. Great retro 60s girl group with a bit of a Wall Of Sound influence.
Control
Random music thought: I don't really care for any live Swans album, except "Swans Are Dead," which is fucking amazing.

Randy
New England is a great Billy Bragg song, but Shirley is also amazing.
Lazlo Woodbine
If we're doing greatest Billy Bragg songs, I'd throw in Levi Stubbs' Tears and Between The Wars too. Even thinking about them there, I had to find them and give them another listen.
JLowe
New England is a great Billy Bragg song, but Shirley is also amazing. "Greetings to the New Brunette" I'll toss in a vote for "To Have and To Have Not". Titus Andronicus did an awesome cover of this last time I saw them.
JRGoldman
There are so many amazing Billy Bragg songs. I'm surprised no one has mentioned "Great Leap Forward" yet, that and "Milkman of Human Kindness" are always the first two that come to mind for me.

supremebve
So Robin Thicke has lost his fucking mind. Does he think that there is a chance in hell that this shit is going to work? I don't think I know a single woman who would be happy about having some dude put her business in the street in such a ridiculous way. Apparently she won't even return his phone calls, what makes him think that publicly begging for her attention is a good idea?

Chaos
I guess this month was the tenth anniversary of Wilco's "A Ghost is Born" release. Obviously, it was a polarizing follow up to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Consequence of Sound has a great article revisiting the record, which inspired me to revisit the album myself. I will admit that i forgot how much I liked a majority of this record. Granted, I am just now approaching the 15 minute "Less Than You Think." http://consequenceofsound.net/2014/06/dusting-em-off-wilco-a-ghost-is-born/
Burgundy LaRue
What woman doesn't love drowning, skulls imposed over her look-alike's face, having her private thoughts exposed to the public, and her estranged husband saying "This is just the beginning" while contemplating suicide? That's some true romance. Women want to be stalked--Twilight showed us that a few years ago, and Sting had the topic on lock 30 years ago. Reed
"I wrote a whole album for you." "I don't care." And this was the moment Paula Patton became my hero.
Greggulator
https://soundcloud.com/markcrozermusic/corners-of-your-mind-by-mark-crozer-the-rels AWESOME new song from Marc Crozier and The Rels, the same people who brought us Bray Wyatt's theme song. It's a great summer power-pop song but has a really cool Jesus & Mary Chain feedback/buzz thing to it.
Ryan
I doubt anyone here cares, but I'm really looking forward to the upcoming United Nations album coming out on the 15th. The album from the former main duo in The Mars Volta now known as ANTEMASQUE is also pretty damn good.

Lamp, broken circa 1988
Death Grips broke up :( :( someone just pointed this out to me, but The Powers That B will end up being album #5, which sure makes 5D on Exmilitary on suspicious. Especially considering in their breakup, they have explicitly said that Death Grips was a conceptual art piece. I dunno. I'm cool with a band fucking my life up and leaving. I was 12 when I bought Relationship of Command. They didn't even survive to my next birthday.
Death From Above
Well fuck, I mean at least that shooting star burned bright while it lasted. Love that group. They didn't just go outside the box, they set the box on fire then danced around it.
Lamp, broken circa 1988
The farewell note: "we are now at our best and so Death Grips is over. we have officially stopped. all currently scheduled live dates are canceled. our upcoming double album "the powers that b" will still be delivered worldwide later this year via Harvest/Third Worlds Records. Death Grips was and always has been a conceptual art exhibition anchored by sound and vision. above and beyond a "band". to our truest fans, please stay legend." So there's still another album's worth of stuff due this fall. Real Big Black style.
brandonr4s
The Gin Blossoms were a sappy, shitty band overall, but "Found Out About You" is a damn good song. I never liked the Goo Goo Dolls, hated them in fact, but "Name" is a damn good song.
