Niners Fan in CT Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 The Simmons interview with Francesa was great. Mike revealed that he called Bill (after Dog left) and was interested in him joining the show but Bill had signed a new deal with ESPN.
Kuetsar Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 FBI and justice are going after DFS sports now. You can start the death clock anytime. . . . 1
Ryan Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 That or the government gets a sweet cut and it's made our new past time. 2
ivpvideos Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 People compare it to poker and how they got shut down but it is completely different. Poker companies weren't based in the U.S so they weren't being taxed. Fanduel and Draftkings are U.S companies. The only thing that this will lead to is more regulation.
Joe Lucia Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 In that NY Times story, there's a tidbit about the sites actively helping people in the five states where fantasy is banned (or whatever the exact phrasing is) deposit money to play. That is...not ideal. 1
Zimbra Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Greg Howard is done fucking around with Whitlock Over the last year and a half of reporting on you and The Undefeated, I’ve spent days and days trying to get a better sense of who you are, and I’ve found that despite your bravado, you are a lonely, sad figure. You’re pitiable, and yet no one pities you, because in an attempt to match your life to your self-delusion, you hurt people. You say you are the king, and try to reach your station by stepping on people close to you, people you think are less than you. You’re sexist and racist, and even worse, you’re a bully who took pleasure in terrorizing people unfortunate enough to have faith in you, like The Undefeated executive editor Amy DuBois Barnett, and your writer Jerry Bembry, and your one-time secretary and close friend, Erin Buker. If events were just a little different, I would’ve been right there with them. That’s why you failed. That’s why you are at Fox Sports.

Jrag Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Welp... my state might be next on the DFS chopping block. I just want to play low-stakes NBA cash games. Is that too much to ask!?!?
Jrag Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 People compare it to poker and how they got shut down but it is completely different. Poker companies weren't based in the U.S so they weren't being taxed. Fanduel and Draftkings are U.S companies. The only thing that this will lead to is more regulation. A month ago I was making these same points, but they might shut it down in IL, PA and FL before anyone stops to think it through. That's a pretty big % of US population. Who knows at this point.
Kuetsar Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 No, I think its going to be gone. With the Feds and NY state looking into the legality of it, its going to take a huge development to stay legal. As I saw in a comments section somewhere, that "insider trading" deal a couple of weeks ago probably will be the death nell, and all this probably wouldn't be happening otherwise. . .
sabremike Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 I think NASA should hire every statist nanny state politician who wants to tell people how to live their lives and have them all sent out on a manned mission to the sun. 1
Joe Lucia Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 A-Rod going to the Fox studio for the rest of the ALCS and World Series. MY BODY IS READY. 1
odessasteps Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 OTL reported today that the NFL is lobbying Congress against holding hearing regarding daily fantasy.
piranesi Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Thank God corporations can't donate the equivalent of the GNP of Turkey to PACs, right guys? Guys???
muhammedboehm Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Thank God corporations can't donate the equivalent of the GNP of Turkey to PACs, right guys? Guys??? Man if only there was a way to make it so Corporations weren't treated like people. I wonder if as a 'not for profit' if there donations/lobbying can be looked into?
Kuetsar Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 I think if New York comes down against DFS, they are going to be hurting do matter what congress does, but still screw the NFL. . .
RIPPA Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 A-Rod going to the Fox studio for the rest of the ALCS and World Series. MY BODY IS READY. Nothing is going to trump him breaking the TV screen
Zimbra Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Rembert Browne is leaving Grantland at the end of the month. He hasn't announced his new gig, but James Miller is saying he won't be joining Simmons at HBO.
odessasteps Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 The podcast tributes that were cut from grantland were done so by Connelly.
supremebve Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Rembert is going to write for NYMag. I've said it before, but it is crazy how much those Grantland guys seem to love Simmons. ESPN had a brand with a bunch of young, talented, writers, that they could have built their brand upon for the next decade or so...but they fired the one person they were loyal to.
odessasteps Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Deitsch is supposed to a pod with Jim Miller this week about the ESPN/Grantland mess.
Niners Fan in CT Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 This makes Simmons look like the greatest boss of all time.
muhammedboehm Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 This makes Simmons look like the greatest boss of all time. And ESPN/The Mouse tone def
Brian Fowler Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 To be fair to the four letter for a second (ugh) Grantland, as much as I enjoy it's content and think it's fantastic, has been, by all accounts, not overly successful in terms of hits and such, and doubly so on anything not written by Simmons.
