Anyone who watched MLS this week and thinks expansion is a good idea is insane. Quality is going down, so let's add a bunch more teams!!!

And the morons in the Post and News questioning Petkie being called a legend for our club are clueless. Bondy of all people should know better That he's one of the most beloved players in team history, not just the most successful coach we ever had.

Relegation?  In the MLS?  An American league???

Honestly, the ridiculous Franchise Fees along with the costs associated with running a top tier franchise, no owner in the country is going to allow their team to possibly get dropped into the NASL should they come in last.  We reward sucking with Good draft picks in America!

Nor would Garber drop the franchise fees anyway, or piss off the owners in any way, shape, or form.

Minnesota plus Atlanta plus a new LA team plus a Miami team with no stadium equals 24.

To compare markets between a 24 team MLS and the 24 team 1978 NASL...

The NASL had a team in Memphis, teams in San Jose and Oakland, a team in Rochester, NY, teams in Anaheim, San Diego and Los Angeles.

They really could do a 30 for 30 on soccer in the US before the MLS

You forgot the Tampa Bay Mutiny (contracted with the Miami Fusion). The Mutiny died out after Malcolm Glazer decided that owning an MLS team wasn't his kinda thing.

So if the Miami Mighty Beckhams can't find a new stadium, team #24 could be from any market of people with money to blow

Sadly, he decided that owning an EPL team was more his style.

Yeah the Mutiny were cool too, I used to love to go to their games with my Carlos Valderrama wig.

The Rowdies were brought back in like 2008 or something though, I thought the intention was to get them in the MLS eventually but it seems they are destined for 2nd division purgatory.

Also gonna guess that recounting all the sites of NASL 68-84 and pre-1994 US international soccer games would be an elaborate list of sadness.

Oh yes. USA All-Time Results, 1885-1989.

re: the 1986 World Cup qualifier:

Needing just a draw against Costa Rica to reach the 1986 FIFA World Cup™, the US scheduled the game in Torrance, Calif., home to Costa Rican expats and advertised the game mainly in Spanish, promising Costa Rican folk dances at halftime. The US loses 1-0

inspiring a new policy of scheduling games v. Spanish-speaking nations in Columbus, Ohio.

(kidding kidding, the US is playing Mexico in a friendly in San Antonio, and probably facing Honduras in the Gold Cup in Frisco, Texas).

Mexico's playing Paraguay at Arrowhead Stadium next week, if I feel really adventurous.

Re: Klinsmann: When does someone point out the emperor has no clothes? But as long as Sunil is a mark for the guy he's got the job for as long as he wants.

Because he lost a friendly?

No, because all he does is lose. He talked this big game and doesn't deliver. Then when things go to shit he blames everyone else.

No, because all he does is lose.

Except in the Gold Cup, where we won.

And the World Cup qualifying, where we went 11-2-3, finishing at the top of the hex.

And the World Cup, where we advanced from a group we had no business advancing out of.

So basically he just did what Bob Bradley did (except we had to get rid of him). Don't mention that last year USMNT had a losing record for first time in forever. But yeah, Klinsmann has really bought us to new heights.

Yes, winning the Gold Cup once out of three times and advancing out of an England-Slovenia-Algeria group is just like what Klinsmann's done. There can be no argument that there is any difference whatsoever, so clearly we need to look at friendly records, which is what really matters.

We won the Gold Cup basically by default because Mexico went to shit. Klinsmann fluked his way through the WC (where we were totally outplayed in every game except possibly the Portugal one). But Klinsmann is a genius, because he was a great player who once took one of the 4 greatest football nations to a WC semifinal on home turf!
