Dolfan in NYC Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Susan Schnieder, Robin's widow, has released a statement (spoiler for size): Short version, he was sober, but he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's.
Reed Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Zelda Williams was getting flooded by trolls who were sending her "pictures of her father in the morgue". She has deleted all her social media presence. Fuck people. Social media is all the proof you need that untreated mental illness runs rampant in society. I mean, yeah, people are dicks sometimes, but something like that is so far beyond anything even most fratboy douchebags could comprehend, I have to think the people doing it are just fucked up and depraved beyond belief and need to be sent to an institution.
Victator Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 I hate this idea that the actions of a few sickos undermines all the people doing good. 2

Don't necessarily blame *true* mental illness for straight-up assholeism.
MADCAP Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 https://tv.yahoo.com/news/gene-simmons-tells-depressed-people-f-k-kill-154600164.html Because seriously, Gene Simmons.
Cristobal Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 I've seen that pop up a few places, and on the one hand, it WAS an asshole thing to say, but on the other hand, it was from an interview he gave BEFORE Williams' suicide. After it happened, Simmons tweeted "R.I.P. Robin Williams, a kind and generous man." The implication that people are saying that Simmons said it in response to Williams' death is entirely false, and arguably more assholish than the quote itself. 1
Brian Fowler Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 He also sent out that image about getting help and the suicide prevention hotline with Williams on it. Maybe Williams's death made him rethink this issue. That said, it was still an asshole thing to say.
jstout Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Gene's just Captain Alpha Male. He can't show a bit of "weakness" or it makes him come off as less of a "rock star," which he isn't, by the day. If he quits being an arrogant prick now, it's like he's giving up the only piece of his rock stardom and "persona" he has left. Everything he says is some sort of odd self-promotion. His opinions on anything should be taken far less than seriously. He's a walking cartoon, a sad rock 'n' roll clown, minus the c-c-c-c-c-cocaine.
MADCAP Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 I'm sure this was his way of trying to sell a couple of more KISS coffins.... 1
The Nature Boy Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 'I'm depressed, I live in Seattle.' F**k you, then kill yourself." Nice shot at grunge though
goodhelmet Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 I saw CNN run this story this morning. I had forgot about Robin talking about meeting Koko in one of his stand up acts. http://sfist.com/2014/08/12/koko_the_gorilla_expresses_grief_ov.php This is one of the greatest things I have ever seen.
RIPPA Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 This might have been posted already but I am not going through the whole thread For today ENCORE's TRIBUTE TO ROBIN WILLIAMS* - Sunday, August 17th beginning at 3pm ET/PT on ENCORE 3:00 pm One Hour Photo (20202 4:40 pm Cadillac Man (1990) 6:20 pm RV (2006) 8:00 pm Good Will Hunting (1997) 10:10 pm Awakenings (1990)
Big Fresh Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 ...I think I woulda left RV off that list if I were Encore.
Cristobal Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Yeah. If you wanted something more comedic, why not go with Good Morning Vietnam or Mrs. Doubtfire?
Brian Fowler Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Well, presumably, they only have the rights to some movies. That may have been the best option they have. I mean, at least it's not Patch Adams.
Raziel Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Disney's been running Aladdin damn near nonstop this weekend, as well.
CSC Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 The one thing I've learned in this thread is that I'm apparently the only person in the world who loves RV. 2
NikoBaltimore Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 I find RV amusing, it helps that it was seen with great people who just loved it, adding to the good times. And regardless of when the comments were said, fuck Gene Simmons.
Ace Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Another great article about Williams by Greggulator's brother. 1
