WRESTLER OF THE DAY: HULK HOGAN

RIPPA

Recommended Posts

Since I am not actually going to post a WOTD tomorrow - I will do this today.

So Real American and all that jazz

People who eliminate the slow build up to Real American are up their with people who post video game matches and videos of themselves watching tv as the people I hate the most on Youtube.

And Ed was all pissy at me for not picking Slaughter so here...

Someone find the best Hogan vs Bossman match?

To me and the memories of my youth it was the MSG cage match

But maybe it was the Sat Night Main Event one

Of course knowing you Matt - you are probably thinking of one from like a random Boston Garden show

Where the fuck have all these Hogan matches been all my life?

I feel like my childhood was all a lie.

Aww.... yeah,...

Youtube totally helped me re-appreciate Hogan

I agree. And not just his matches from Japan. I've really grown to appreciate his WWE matches as well.

Yeah, what the hell is the DEAL with those wankers? What are they, too scared to do a laughably amateur "review" of wrestling shows where they stutter and curse into a grainy webcam for thirty minutes straight, like the rest of all the IWC noobs? Every damn time you try to search for anything involving Ric Flair or Samoa Joe or god forbid CM Punk, you've gotta wade through a million of these damn video game matches that I can't imagine a single person on the planet actually wants to watch.

I had no idea Hogan wrestled Mutoh without the Muta gimmick. Kind of excited about that.

Don't be TOO excited, the Muta match was better. The Mutoh one was shorter, less memorable, less energetic, and featured a lot of the same spots recycled.

Let's not forget that even in the billionaire wastelands of WCW, Hogan could occasionally manage to crap out some damn good matches in seemingly effortless fashion.

Here's something you won't see often: Hogan stiffing the living SHIT out of someone. I guess, much like the entire WWF locker room of 1996, he wasn't terribly fond of how goddamn hard Vader hit people. You can actually hear his fist repeatedly smacking into Leon's face.

The rematches all stunk, but I maintain that this first Piper/Hollywood encounter (aside from the asinine, unmentioned non-title stipulation) was damn near as fun as their 1985 matches.

See Hulk job! Also, giggle at rookie Goldberg apparently encountering the "wrestlers slather their bodies with disgusting amounts of Icy-Hot" phenomenon for the first time, as he's clearly half-blind throughout much of the match.

And sorry for the following Dailymotion, but some matches are just impossible to find on Youtube.

Hogan's WCW debut, and personally I think his best match with Flair.

In hindsight, the Russchoff regime of spring 2000 was WAY better than it had any right to be. Seriously some of Russo's best stuff ever. Which is exemplified by the Hogan/Kidman feud. Sure, it never went anywhere and had the wrong guy as the heel, but on a week-to-week basis it was shockingly fun.
