Cobra Commander Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 which improvised babyface superteam is more likely: Toni and Willow or Toni and Britt? or a six woman where it's Toni, Willow and Britt vs Mariah, Statlander, and Mone so that all the future matches are teased at once 1 1
The Natural Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 I knew something was going to happen at the end of Mariah May vs. Willow Nightingale because Dr. Martha Hart wasn't there for the presentation like she usually is. 2

Gordi the BJW fan Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 My tl/dr is: That was a massive pile of unnecessarily Sports Entertainmenty disappointment. If you have time, please read my explanation of why: Disappointment is an interesting thing. If I am hungry and it's late and we find a ramen restaurant and the ramen is pretty good, I will be delighted. But if we made special plans to go to a famous ramen restaurant in Kyoto, and had to wait in line 45 minutes, and it's kind of expensive, THE EXACT SAME BOWL OF RAMEN would be a MASSIVE DISAPPOINTMENT. I really thought this could have been another all-timer. As good as last week's show. So, even though there was plenty of good (for example, BRYAN WINS! Calgary warming my heart by POPPING for Ishii, the bloody final image, etc etc) I feel let down. Way too much ENTIRELY UNNECESSARY WWE-esque Sports Entertainment Bullshit. (thankfully, not leading directly to Fuck Finishes, but still, the matches did NOT need that shit). Fucking non-stop Nigel on commentary. He takes SO MUCH from the table while bringing significantly less to it. About 80/20 at this point. So, yeah. Good show. ALL the wrestlers absolutelybusted their asses. But: Disappointing. - Did Nana dance through the ENTIRE commercial break? I sure hope so. - I refuse to suspend my disbelief w/r/t Joe being hospitalised by some fucking DRYWALL. Cool visual with the forklift, though. Joe being loaded into an ambulance while commentary does concerned voices was the most egregious bullshit on a show absolutely packed to the fucking gills with egregious bullshit. i still loves ya, All Elite WRESTLING. AESE can git tae fuck, though.

Collision, I guess? My foggy old brain doesn't always remember which show things happened on, but I recall them being pretty busy.

DreamBroken Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 Wild ending, didn't see that coming so suddenly at all. Didn't think any turn would happen until closer to the match, but a great visual that put a hell of a lot of heat on this one already. Hangman/Bryan was epic. A nice surprise to see Bryan win, I thought he had a good chance to win the tournament initially but once Hangman returned, I figured he was a lock. Loved the Jarrett involvement and this was a nice path to lead Hangman back to the Elite for Blood and Guts. The Calgary Stampede Street Fight between Jericho and Joe was fun with a memorable finish. Surprised Ospreay/MJF for the first time is next week instead of Wembley but looks like 250 will be a loaded one. 4
Cobra Commander Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 also, either no Bucks tonight, or I totally didn't notice the Bucks tonight
The Natural Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 Just now, Cobra Commander said: also, either no Bucks tonight, or I totally didn't notice the Bucks tonight Backstage segment with Kazuchika Okada and Hangman Adam Page with Page saying he's in Blood and Guts. 1
The Natural Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 Off to sleep as it's 03:36 in the morning. Cheers. 2

Niners Fan in CT Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 For all the talk about the WTF? booking in AEW, these past few weeks have been TREMENDOUS... maybe the best back-to-back shows they've ever done? That ending was insanity.... I think you could say they are hitting on all cylinders headed towards 'ALL IN' Anyone surprised that they are running MJF vs. Ospreay next week? I know it's Dynamite 250 but that seemed like a Wembley match. 6
Cobra Commander Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 running MJF vs Ospreay doesn't necessarily mean they can't run it again at Wembley. But I suspect that the sort of finish next week that would get a rematch could be unpopular with a person or two are they gonna immediately go to the "you have to do all these things to get a match with MJF" trope again?
tbarrie Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 The really shocking thing about MJF vs Ospreay next week is that Tony Khan didn't make it official until like twenty minutes after the wrestlers agreed to it! Was he asleep at the switch? 2 1
SirFozzie Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 MJF-Ospreay should be a Memphis style walkabout brawl that just gets out of control and forces security to stop them (after they brawl everywhere). Mention that All-In will have security around the area to prevent the fight from leaving the ringside area. 3

Not to veer too far off topic but two things to consider - Garcia, and they have to save some big matches for All Out which is two weeks later. Wild cards are Ricochet and if Omega will be able to wrestle, they could do Ospreay vs. Ricochet or Omega at Wembley with MJF vs. Garcia, then Ospreay/MJF at All Out if whatever happens next week leads to another match. 2
Niners Fan in CT Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 Saw some things on the Twitter saying this whole Toni Storm and Mariah May story arc is a play on the 1950 movie 'All About Eve'. Fascinating stuff. 1

Fascinating stuff. Yeah my brother said that to me as well. This was a fun episode of Dynamite (Chris Jericho driving Joe through a wall withstanding). I liked Bryan vs. Hangman and was shocked Bryan won. I guess it makes more sense for Hangman go thermonuclear inside blood & guts especially since Swerve has taken over as captain of team AEW. I was pulling for Willow to win so I was let down when Mariah won. But all of that went away when she clocked Toni with the belt. I honestly didn't see that coming and it was a hell of an ending for the show. Mariah playing the long game to take out Toni was brilliant stuff. 1
Zimbra Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 I thought the overall show had some serious pacing issues but goddamn that turn was hot. Sudden, violent, bloody: that's what I want in my wrestling. Real missed opportunity not to have Jericho hit the Y2J pose after he BROKE THE WALLS DOOOOWWWWWNNNNNN 5 1

Fascinating stuff. Our own @Greggulator called it when the angle started. Anyway, excellent show. AEW is cooking. I absolutely love Swerve’s at the time inconsequential announcement of being on Team AEW eventually leading to Hangman joining Team Elite. Perfect. Edited July 11, 2024 by Technico Support 4
Zakk_Sabbath Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 Yeah, man this show fucking ruled. Both Owen finals alone were worth the price of admission, and All In and B&G are both getting a good amount of attention in terms of build so far - Also: it's probably just a temporary change for the Canada shows so they don't have to haul as much stuff up there, but holy shit was it nice to have this show actually look like AEW again, even if only temporarily. 3
