Today was my last day at the PT weekend job. It feels great to finally be able to finish up there. I didn't think anyone really knew, since nobody had really said anything about it. But, I had people coming out of the woodwork to say goodbye to me. Both the store manager and assistant manager made a point of coming up to me and telling me that I'd always have a job there if I needed one.

Getting positive feedback like that is always wonderful and people telling you that you'd be welcomed back anytime is especially heartwarming. This was very nice to read.

Today's been rough as it's the 10th anniversary of my Mum's funeral, 8th July 2014. I was there 10 years ago and gone every year since. Had some lagers with her. For a while I'd pushed this date out of my mind but in recent times, it's resurfaced. Date brings it all back. My eulogy, Aje coming up, Conrad going and how upsetting it all was.

Unfortunately, the pinched nerve was more a symptom, than the root cause. PT touched off a mystery pain in my side and docs subsequently uncovered a more serious back problem. Having trouble figuring out what is causing mystery pain, so docs are either reluctant to prescribe painklllers or want ot prescribe something that doesn’t work. Pain feels like nerve pain so I need a neurological consult but neurologists in area are booked for next several weeks or months, so it’s a case of ‘hurry up and wait”.  Pain is usually manageable, but gets worse when I sit up straight or drive or sit in a low char.  Pain is pretty bad today, so I may hsave to do something if it persists. Went to ER about two weeks ago, but nothing definitive showed up on tests, so they sent me home with a pat on the head, basically. 

Anyway, no idea how this will turn out or if the pain will go away, so future looks somewhat grim for me.  I assume stronger painkillers are an option, but I don’t even like taking aspirin, so I’m not thrilled with that option.

Was diagnosed with social anxiety and inattentive ADHD today. Not sure what I'm going to do about it.

I am very excited that I scored in the 99.9th percentile on one of the cognitive parts of the testing.

I didn't get diagnosed until I was in my early 40's. For me, it was nice to have a doctor say, "No, you're not lazy, your brain just works differently." It also lets me look up non medicinal ways to work with my brain instead of against it.

Regarding the joke I made about Johnny TV and myself coming from the same cyborg production line (but he is a newer, more advanced model), in the Conspiracy Theory thread, apparently my co-workers in another shift call me "Terminator". Now, it's probably tongue in cheek, or even derogatory, but I take great pride in having earned that.

Anyway, I finally got the dreaded OFFICIAL JURY NOTIFICATION from the Champaign County Circuit Court. I really don't want to participate in a jury trial of anything, for anybody, especially given my personal political leanings. Is there any trick to get me DQ'd, like saying I don't think I could be impartial? Am I gonna have to talk to a judge or just lawyers? My friend in Cook says he had to talk in front of judge, lawyers, AND (get this) the defendant and other potential jurors. That's fucking insane.

I have to add that the note says I can either 1. complete an online form, 2. Call an automated phone system, 3. Scan a QR code on the form?, 4. Text my ID number. I suppose the last two are for people that've already had their card pulled.

They usually have a series of questions that can get you disqualified by the lawyers during the selection process (things like, have you been convicted of something, has your life been affected by violence or the crime in question, etc.), which should be well before the rest.  I just sat in a room and read Ender's Game front to back before they called me in and tossed me off the list the last time.

Or, look up jury nullification!  If I were fabulously wealthy, I'd run a billboard campaign across the country to get people to learn about it.

I always wondered if they get mad/try to punish people that they can tell are saying things just to get out of it. Like if the defendant is Asian and the first thing you say is "man I hate Asians, I always assume they are guilty of anything they do" on paper that would be very disqualifying but also obvious what you are doing. I always figured if someone wanted to get out of it they had to be a little more subtle than that but maybe it doesn't matter.

If I have to sit in front of the fucking JUDGE and the DEFENDANT I am gonna be as careful as to what I say as humanly possible. A prosecutor and a hired counsel, less so.

Want to know the simplest way to get out of jury duty?   If you get asked, volunteer "I did a year of law school." 

Instant dismissal.   No lawyer wants to deal with someone who's even remotely law adjacent.
