that was my experience with NES Remix. i probably won't play this until sometime next year. I'm working on clearing out my backlog this year, and next year jumping into all my Switch titles that have come out in the last 2 years that i'm behind on.

There's too much coming out this year for me. Echoes of Wisdom, Lego Horizon, M&L Brothership, Sonic and Shadow Generations, MvC Fighting Collection. I don't have a backlog to clear anymore. It's just like, I'm in the mood for a fighting game, I'll pop in this fighting game, etc.

I do buy stuff and immediately play it, though. I don't buy and just add to a backlog anymore, so that helps.

oh man, the struggle is real.

i have been making a lot of progress on my backlog the last couple of years. It helps that most of them are retro games, as if they were current titles i would have zero chance. modern games are WAY too long for my tastes. My most recent completion was the Wario Land series of games on the various Nintendo consoles.

but my goal for 2025 is to only pick up THE NEXT game i'm going to play. NWC is my exception, since i thought that had the opportunity to be a limited release. FIrst up: Mega Man 11. Super Mario Wonder, Princess Peach Showtime, Kirby and the Forgotten Land are the big three that i haven't bought yet. And end the year off with Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (also haven't purchased yet... i told you i'm behind!) Also maybe Gimmick! 2 (personally i'm hoping that LRG releases the original game on a NES cart too!) Hell, i might even get around to playing my copy of Bendy and the Ink Machine! (i'm not holding out hope about getting to this one)

Got a chance to play Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess early and, my goodness, do I love it. It’s basically a mix of Onimusha & a tower defense game with gorgeous art direction. It has some Okami dna too, Not that similar in gameplay, but it reminds me of Capcom’s PS2 era when Capcom did strange, offbeat games that weren’t system sellers. Not sure it will sell well, but a lovely, experimental game. Despite being given a code, I’ll be buying two copies this week - one for Xbox, one for PS5.

i actually hope it does sell well.  Right now, it’s a digital exclusive and I definitely want a physical edition. Also, I want more games like this, some of my favorite Capcom games from the PS2 era were oddball titles that sold poorly, God Hand is one of my personal top 10. Okami isn’t far behind.  Rule of Rose, Haunting Ground, and Clock Tower 3 are probably three of the most interesting experiments to come out of that generation.

Kunitsu-Gami really feels like something Capcom would have made in the PS2 era. In a better timeline, there would be a Clover Studio on the title screen,

I guess it’s fortunate electricity and motor vehicles were invented before unions became a thing.  Lot of sad telegraph messengers and horse and buggy drivers on those days. Probably also a good thing no union rep was nearby to ask for an injunction when the first fish grew legs and crawled up on land. I’m sure a union would find that objectionable somehow.

i’ve been part of a dozen or so union negotiations as part of my work.  Sometimes on side of management, sometime on side of labor.  My opinion of unions is that, if they help anyone but themselves, it’s probably a happy accident.  I’m fine with voice actors getting a better deal, but we’re all going to benefit from AI integration in the end, so I think the sooner we stop dragging our feet and figure out how to make AI work for us  the better off we’ll be.

It is hilarious that people are already wringing their hands about games being delayed, especially GTA VI. Not like there’s anything else to play.  Course, same folks are probably the ones who oppose AI because they think we’re going to build Skynet.  If we do build Skynet, I’m going to suggest it goes after SAG first, but I don’t expect that to happen.

They weren't. Modern unions predate the invention of the automobile by a century or so. The "invention" of electricity is more nebulous, but modern unions are certainly older than widespread use of electric power.

I actually know that.

Thanks for killing my joke with facts, lol.

edit: and it’s a fair point about the Discord.  My apologies.

I am on the side of the artist when it comes to AI so hell yeah the voice actors should definitely strike.  And for that matter those who do motion capture might want to consider a slice of a bigger pie themselves.  We came across this a couple months ago and it was about their struggle with AI.  https://www.scrippsnews.com/documentaries/in-real-life/in-real-life-outperforming-ai

I think as soon as artists in general can feel safe about AI there will be a more open mind to how it can work for them.  I can't see that happening for quite some time and it's one of the reasons why I prefer not to do AI when I can.

i think ultimately this will be true, but that doesn't mean that the people along the way should be used and abused.

I'm reading (again) about all the defunct developers and publishers and defunct internal teams, from the west and east and Europe. Lots are gone over the decades.

Some companies today are just new successor companies with the same old names.

There been lot of mergers too. When two companies sometimes merge...instead of one company getting renamed and the other done, they are formed into one newer company.

Some of the old (defunct or not) companies or assets got bought out too. Or have become smaller companies that sell mostly old stuff.

Nintendo over the years collapsed their old divisions into one over time.

To be fair, anyone joining the Discord to rant about how Workers' rights are a bad thing is probably going to be quite upset when they see what the 'Political Discussion' folder on there is called.

nb: It's not called Political Discussion

Finished Doom 2016. Spectacular - one day they'll announce the shutting down of servers and maybe I'll get to try the multiplayer 😅

Went right into Doom Eternal and didn't like it at all. What a drag, I was stoked to catch up for the new one coming whenever.

The MK1 leaks were correct; the next 6 chars are Cyrax, Sektor, Noob, Ghostface, T-1000 and Conan of Cimmeria. Notably, (a( this is an Aftermath-style story expansion with Havik picking up from the stinger in the main story mode, not a Kombat Pack, and the characters will not be available without buying the whole package, (b) Cyrax and Sektor are women in this timeline, and (c) Robert Patrick and Roger L. Jackson will reprise their film roles but we don't know if Conan will be Momoa, Ron Perlman (who played him in a couple games and was supposed to be in some animated movies that were planned but scrapped) or someone else. (I am guessing that if Arnie wasn't willing to show up for MK11 he isn't gonna show up for MK1) Package is $50 except on Switch where it's $40, and out in Sept.

I want to care but man, I really did not enjoy MK1 at all, I quit playing before the first Kombat Pack even finished releasing all the characters. Cyrax, Sektor and Noob look fine, though Noob looked cooler in 11. Animalities coming back is a great excuse for more gross violence. I've never really given a shit about the movie crossover stuff. Ghostface is partiuclalry ridiculous since canonically Ghostface is literally some random nerd that can't fight. I'm probably not going to pick the game up again. I'm sure the internet will react very normally to Cyrax and Sektor being gender swapped in this version of the timeline. I assume they'll get the same Arnie impersonation they used for the Terminator on Conan. I'd rather we just got Kotal Khan back, it's literally the same character but Kotal had a cool voice actor.

The total retail buy in plus the ultra aggresive in game monetization is not cool. WB need to get their shit together.

Yeah, I put a stupid amount of time into 11 and even bought it on Stadia when it was cheap because the PS4 version didn't like my router and kept kicking me out of matches. I'll probably get this when it's on sale, because I expect to like the story, but it feels like a big step back after IJ2 and MK11 ate my life for months each.

I hated Doom Eternal as well. Didn't like the ammo system and just way too much platforming. Having to chainsaw something every 10 seconds to get ammo is kind of a dumb mechanic.

I wish the later releases of VF5 had the sweet 1p mode that 4 Evo and 5 Vanilla had.

Regular VF5 is a very beautiful looking game.

The Ultimate edition was co developed by Sega AM2, and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and rebuilt in the Dragon Engine. Probably  expect them to do VF6 together again in the future.
