  1. Man, whole lot of fun cops in this thread. Don't have fun in an unapproved way around here or else you're going to get busted by people who get distracted by rope colors.

  23. Rosters lock today, I believe so we may get one more surprise before this is all over. However, today is all about the beginning of the Regents of the Ring titles. And frankly, this may be a year where the first round matches are better than the potential finals... Yeah, and we haven't even talked about the Smackdown side yet. Also a very good chance of Ilja vs. Gunther (or Sheamus!) in the quarters. People may die! They'll never be royals... Enjoy the week

  24. That match felt very out of place especially since that was when WWF was transitioning to a different era. That whole buildup felt like something that would have taken place on Raw 3 or 4 years earlier. Either Ivan called in a favor to give his son the rub or being in San Antonio made WWF want to do something different to appeal to the folks who might still remember Ivan Putski. Either way, it was very odd.

  28. People didn't really turn the corner on going to rehab being a positive until well over a decade later anyway. That was the era where if you were a celebrity going to rehab, you were fodder for late night show monologues. We needed at least a decade of TMZ/Perez Hilton to get most of society to realize that maaaaaaaaybe mocking people for having addictions isn't exactly the fix we thought it was. (Why no, I didn't just rewatch Framing Britney Spears recently, why do you ask)

  29. I miss The KOTR being a one night event. Man, it's a shame they moved Sheamus to RAW because Gunther vs. him should be a final.

  30. It'd be neat if that catches on but that just felt forced and there seemed to confused faces in the crowd. But they tried. The main and even the face-to-face on SD did throw off AJ and Cody so that wasn't ideal. But I thought the crowd was into everything and added a lot to it. I think we heard enough crowds in the past that just wanted it to be about themselves to see they weren't intending to take away from anything. It was good fun with their first PPV so I'm down for it. Plus you could tell the wrestlers were having tons of fun especially those like KO and Randy who were having the time of their lives.

  31. Reports are amending and pointing out that only Lawler's Full-time announcer contract was up, he's still on his Legends deal so he can't really go anywhere else currently. It's likely meaning less Lawler on pre-show panels and more Big E and Punk (until he's healed). Replacing Lawler with Big E is a massive upgrade.

  32. To AEW's credit after Sting retired Flair hasn't been around since. He was on less often to begin with after he had a live mic and had to apologize for it. So if all he's good for is a sponsorship for some mid-level energy drink they fine by me. But if Lawler does show up even one time I'm turning off AEW for at least a month or so.

  33. We're talking about Sherri right? I just caught up on the series so I apologize if I am out of the loop. I don't really necessarily fault Eric for letting Sherri go. I have documented this several times on the board. Go back and watch some of those Sherri appearance especially the months right before she is let go. She is basically zombified standing behind Harlem Heat. She is doing the "act like everything is okay while you are clearly in no shape to perform" stilted walk to the ring. It is depressing in hindsight. She had outlived her usefulness to the act especially in that condition. I get what Madusa is saying in terms of the implied sexism at play, but Eric let it go on for months before she had to go. And it was likely going on for several months before that if Cornette's story is true, and Jim has no reason to lie about that. WCW was never the we will pay for rehab place or even ask you to go to rehab. Judging by Sherri's life, rehab probably wasn't her thing.

  36. So, I'm watching the episode on Bam Bam Bigelow for the first time. Being a Jersey boy, Bam Bam was always one of my favorites, so it's cool to see the Stone Pony and the Monster Factory getting name dropped. Aside from that, this is an incredibly tough watch. I'm trying to think of more to say, but just can't find the words. Addiction is the worst. Fuck Oxycontin.

  38. Not for nothing nor to deny seriousness of these or the allegations against Gulak, the idea of Shawn Michaels chewing someone out for not being professional tickles me greatly. "Back in my day you didn't take advantage of your opponent in the ring, you might stomp on him and curse him out or maybe make an overt reference on live TV to them cheating on their wife, or you just showed up to work high and/or drunk..."

  39. When someone comes forward about a matter of sexual assault - and let's not get it twisted, what Gulak tried to do was sexual assault - I'm not especially interested in whether the victim was a good person or not. I'm more interested in making sure that the next person doesn't have it happen to them.

  45. It's too bad Raven didn't give up the gem he did on the Forever Hardcore DVD: the boys in the locker room said "Hey, you and Paul E. are Jewish, why don't you nail him to a Star of David" and Raven responded "yeah we do that and he'd roll away"

  46. I think there are always issues in the US when you religion and art. It's prob gotten worse as the evangelical right gained more power. Even in 2004 (?) When Mel Gibson made Passion, there were issues. Same with Scorsese in 1988. I recall people complaining about Kevin Smiths Dogma.

  47. He was holding out for that big payday before he started bumping through glass and destroying his body. What stuck out to me instead of the crucifixion was the crowd getting quiet for the "I worship Raven now" moment. You could look at their faces and some of them were just shocked. And where I thought it was goofy before, now I looked at it like these people might've come from broken homes or lost their kids and it could have hit them real low. I mean this is a scumbag Philly crowd we're talking about here, probably not a whole lot of stable families there.
