  1. That's the thing, he's not from Cleveland, he's from Parma, which is 93% white. He's from one of those places that exists so white people can say they are from a major city without actually ever having to deal with any black people. It's like white people who claim to be from Baltimore, odds are those people don't live in Baltimore. They probably never even go to Baltimore. This country is extremely segregated. The president is campaigning on saving the suburbs, which is basically an argument for continued segregation. Did anyone read the Washington Post article about Ferguson that came

  2. Miz and Morrison are doing WWE-sanctioned comedy. Big E is an actual funny person. That's the difference.

  3. Miz is a guy who thinks he's far funnier and charismatic than he actually is. And I'm absolutely not shocked a white kid from the midwest has some pretty ignorant views on race and privilege. Hearing that story about his dad rings so true. It's the kind of ingrained soft racism that's so casually passed down generationally, where the kids coming up need to really pay attention and wake the fuck up, lest you end up on a talk show arguing with a black guy about how you've faced the same barriers they have.

  4. This is amazing. That we look to sports for political change is fucked up, but here we are and I'll take anything at this point.

  5. I disagree with this too. I honestly think the thing that turned me off of modern wrestling is that everything felt paint by numbers. Everyone kind of became good to great technical wrestlers, with 4 signature moves, a dive, a top rope move, and a finisher. Every match is pretty good, but all of them feel the same. Give me a show where every match is different, even if some of them aren't very good. Give me a wild brawl, give me a spotfest, give me a couple guys just wrenching on holds, and then the epic main event will feel epic. But telling people that these are the best practices are

  6. After only working there since July 1st, I have been promoted to supervisor of the bakery/deli at my Walmart Neighborhood Market. It blows my mind to think that this time two years ago, I was at the absolute lowest of low. Hoping for death and laid up in the hospital, unable to walk or really do anything, due to extreme alcoholism. Ever since I moved down here, I've really turned my life around and am quite happy. I have managed to put a concrete dome over the suicidal depression that once plagued my soul.

  7. Honestly, I hope this ends the NBA season. And I say this as a Lakers fan who wanted them to win it all. The boycott would be an empty gesture if they just took one or two days off and then went right back to it. If you're done because you're done with this bullshit, be DONE. Also...let these guys go home. The bubble is pretty much a human zoo.

  12. I care about storytelling, but not everything needs to be the Odyssey. Sure, the Odyssey is a great story, but sometimes I want a big dumb crime thriller. Other times I want to read about a heist where I have to pay attention to every little detail or I won't understand how the ending makes sense. I might want to read a mystery with a huge twist that I never saw coming. All of these stories are worth telling, but you can't really use the same set of guidelines to tell these stories effectively. The finishing sequence for every match needs to reflect the story that each match is trying to

  13. Agreed. The less formulaic pro wrestling is, the better it is.

  17. With all this being said...(even though I never called them this) seeing as AEW is the "woke" promotion, how do they even go forward with a pro wrestling taping? Wrestling seems a bit trivial right now say the least.

  21. I'd like to use this opportunity to say, there should be no hard and fast rules about what makes good wrestling. Some matches would be better served with a closing 6th, some a closing 3rd, and others a flash finish. Trying to establish rules would actively make wrestling worse.

  24. 100% Well, if they play. My first thought was wow this will give Russ more time to heal! Second thought was that the season shouldn’t be in jeopardy because Kenosha and the state of Wisconsin will do the right thing and arrest the cops who participated in the shooting of Jacob Blake. Third thought was yeah right Trump will blame the players and nothing will happen to those cops, like nothing will happen to the cops who killed Breona Taylor, etc.

  28. I mean I am glad that they are trying to take a stand and be serious about. But the people who need to change this shit don't fucking care about this game. Hell they didn't watch game 1 through 4. If this game was in Milwaukee it would make a difference because it hits the pocket books You can see their frustration and it just sucks

  29. No significant addition to this other than being shocked my current residence of Parma, Ohio, would ever be mentioned on DVDVR. Yeah, he was very 'middle class' from the school he went to all the way the specific area of town he grew up in, and, while not entirely horrible or great itself, Parma is surrounded by some of the nicest communities in Northeast Ohio, all of which are know to be somewhat intolerant, in general. Parma is diverse, but in the "Is your family originally from Poland, or are they from the Ukraine?" sort of way.

  30. You guys are preaching to the choir, I'm of the opinion that creativity dies as soon as an artform becomes a capitalistic venture. As soon as profit becomes the main consideration, it's really hard to take the kind of risks that it requires to be truly creative.

  31. The thing with formulaic matches is, the biggest promotion in the world is also the most formulaic, and so a generation of wrestling fans (and wrestlers) have grown up thinking that's the best and only way to do it. Shame. So apparently Wikipedia has reinstated finishing moves to Wrestler's pages. But they're in italics now, because they're ironic or some shit.

  33. I'd like to use this wonderful opportunity to once again bring up my recently derived theory that finishing stretches should be closer to 1/6th of a match than 1/3rd. It just seems like the proper time and place.

  34. I grew up in a city demographically similar to Cleveland and I can tell you that white middle class racism is thriving in places like that. I grew up around some real bigoted shitheads and I'm glad I got away from that. I firmly believe that once you reach a certain level of money and fame, you sure as shit are not taking care of your own kids the way non-rich, non-famous people do.
