They have a loophole, though. "If a grievance has merit." All they've got to do is say that the grievance has no merit and they're off the hook. Easy PR win for them.

They had to help Aaron Hernandez try to get his money after he murdered a person (or people).  They can't really turn down a player or it will kill their credibility with the rest of the players.

Bottom line is people, man or woman, shouldn't be putting hands on each other in anger.

I totally agree with the caveat that if it does happen, it is the responsibility of the male to meet his response with one appropriate to the level of the encounter and adjust for chivalry.  Good and proper men are raised to not strike women and women know that so they are going to push the envelope as much as they can.

If your hand is forced, have the discipline to measure your reaction.

I am a boxer and a brown belt judoka and my ex-wife always went as far as she could in an argument.  When I sensed that she was about to get physical, I just left the house to let her cool off.   That's not being a coward.  That's knowing that if she lunged for me and I fought back with all of the techniques at my disposal, she could possibly find herself in a calf slicer in no time flat.

Perhaps that is an adequate response to an attacker or an opponant on the dojo mat, but it is a totally inappropriate response if the person involved is the woman you love.

I think my ex managed to slap me one time. I just grabbed her wrist and gave it a little cautionary tweak.  She got the message.  No knockout head kicks were necessary.

At this point, there are very few non-SHIELD™ shills that aren't calling for Goodell's head.  Even some of the normal shills are getting ready to join a march on  Park Ave.  Well, the ones that feel like the SHIELD™ hurt their journalistic integrity because of the "We looked at the tape/No we didn't" mess.

TMZ says they have proof that the NFL knew about the video and will release it tomorrow

Well, everyone KNEW about the video.  Whether they SAW the video or had access to it is another story.

I think they're implying that if the NFL wanted to see the video, they could have seen the video.

Seriously, this all took place in a casino. Anyone that's been in a casino knows that there's a camera about every 18 inches or so. (Maybe slightly exaggerated, but there's a hell of a lot of cameras in there, up to and including in the elevators.)

Theron lies the problem. I do not believe for a second that the NFL did not see and try to bury the tape. They had to have seen it to corroborate or disprove the narrative being told by the Rice's.

Ravens announce that fans can exchange their Ray Rice jersey in at the stadium store

"Yes I would like to replace my Ray Rice Jersey with a Ray Lewis jersey please"

I do believe Ray Rice's NFL career is over. The outrage and how far he has to go to reverse the outrage inside teams... I believe he's done

Nah.  Mike Vick ran a criminal organization that tortured and killed a shitload of dogs and he was let back in the league and, sadly, hitting a woman is more socially acceptable than running an illegal dogfighting ring. Look at how many people looked the other way between when the Rice allegations came out and yesterday.  Shit, he even got a standing ovation in the preseason even though everybody knew what he did.  People WANT a reason to look the other way.

Like many others have already said, all he'll have to do is lay low and then make some nice apology theater and enough people will accept it for him to play again.

I received an email from a local jewelry/Ravens memorabilia store who is accepting returns on all Rice-related merch and is also donating an amount equal to any return to a local battered women's shelter.

EA has also announced that they will be removing Rice from Madden 15 when they release their Week 1 update.

In news that suprises no one at this point, according to TMZ's sources at the now defunct Revel, the NFL never asked for the video.

Que the pitchforks.

If #NFL saw video, Ray Rice "punishment" is indefensible. If they didn't, it's because they deliberately turned their backs. Bad either way.

#Ravens and #NFL can't have it both ways. For months they've implied, "If you'd seen the full video, you might not be so hard on #RayRice."

The #Ravens didn't release Ray Rice when they saw this video. They released Ray Rice when YOU saw the video. Remember that.

Ray's wife takes to the media to complain about the media.  And me.  And you.  Apparently, it's our fault Ray had something taken away (the revenue).

I really don't get the NFL bashing.  Yeah, Ray's probably a bad guy.  People around the league and within the Ravens organization probably already knew that.  And, yeah, the league handled this horribly.  It happens.  There are probably bad guys in every sport, entertainment field, corporation, etc., you can name.  Doesn't make every sport, entertainment field, and company culpable.  Ultimately, the attention on how the league handled the matter deflects attention from the person who is most responsible - Rice.

Rice's career is done because of the combination of this and his age and his rather apparent decline last year.

Who is going to bring back a potential PR nightmare aging tailback who already was showing signs of being washed up?

CFL is honoring the NFL suspension, so it won't be up north anytime soon. Maybe some indoor team might take a flyer on him.

Ray Rice might need to learn how to sing and dance if he wants to get accepted by the general public again. Hell he could even be on the cover of Billboard magazine.

Because of this and Ray Rice getting 2 games before we saw the extended video. Putting all the attention on Ray Rice means it will be forgotten as quickly as he's forgotten.  The NFL has a domestic violence problem that needs to be addressed.
