odessasteps Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Hyperviolence Concussion lawsuit League of Denial Jingoism Pinktober Arbitrary displinary Policy Domestic Violence Combined, enough to warrant getting off the nfl bandwagon
Burgundy LaRue Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Don't we mean society has a domestic violence problem that needs to be addressed? That's the thing. We can wring our hands over this incident, and rightfully so. But Ray Rice is merely the current poster child of something that goes far beyond him. 3
Charlie M. Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Sure, but a nice start would be the multi-millionaire athletes getting hammered over it. The NFL can't control the shitty legal system but they can impose heavy penalties, try to change the culture of their players and use them to influence their audience. 2
Burgundy LaRue Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Yeah, the NFL could do a lot of things. So could other billion-dollar corporations. So could actors and singers and directors and writers, all of whom have strong fanbases. But they don't, because it impacts their product/public image and ultimately their bottom line. Or if they do say something, a chunk of society tells to stop preaching to them and STFU. The NFL is a hypocritical entity. But so are we as fans.
Reed Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 That chart is, just wow. Wrestling gets deserved slack for all the deaths, but at least you've not got people getting arrested for pimping or getting charged with domestic assault every other week. Fucking hell. Emma shoplifted an ipad cover (likely unintentionally) and even got fired for a few hours after it.
Cristobal Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 ...not sure "fired for a few hours" was your best example. Also, if you don't think there's every bit as sordid a history of bad behavior from wrestlers, you very simply haven't been paying attention.
Reed Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Oh, I'm not saying wrestling isn't extremely sleazy; it is. But it's hard to image a WWE star knocking his girlfriend in an elevator, in an incident that gets attention from the press and authorities, and them basically not doing a thing about it until the video comes out a few months later.

Today? No. In the past, if the guy drew money they didn't give a shit. See Jimmy Snuka, or dozens of other I don't know about.
Bustronaut Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 "2000s' NFL is kind of a dumpster fire of criminal activity." "Oh yeah? Compare it to the entire history of anything else!"

Kuetsar Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 "2000s' NFL is kind of a dumpster fire of criminal activity." "Oh yeah? Compare it to the entire history of anything else!" To be honest, I'm not sure if the league is worse off the field now, or we are just hearing about it more. Not that that is an excuse at all mind you. . .
Pete Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Ray Rice v Big Show at Mania 31?? Speaking of which, domestic violence expert Floyd Mayweather thinks the NFL should've stood pat on the two-game suspension. "I think there's a lot worse things that go on in other people's households, also," Mayweather said. "It's just not caught on video, if that's safe to say." pleaseproceedgovernor.gif
Cristobal Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Part of the reason we don't know as much about wrestlers' incidents is that the media doesn't give two shits about wrestling compared to pro football. There wasn't video, but I never heard a peep about Austin and Debra in non-wrestling media.

If he was secure, was comment on it at all. . . . Also Goodell stating he's job is secure makes him look better if he (is forced to) step down as commish. "Oh, he did the right thing by stepping down on his own" 1
Joe Lucia Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I've stayed out of this, but Stephen A Smith should be fired for this rant. Disgusting. 1
Kuetsar Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11500445/terry-oneill-president-national-organization-women-calls-nfl-commissioner-roger-goodell-resign NOW has called for Goodell to step down. Blood is in the water, the feeding frenzy has begun. Whether the Commish can survive it is anyone's guess. . .
Raziel Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 But that should be the last straw for SAS. But knowing my luck, he'll end up at WFAN.
Kuetsar Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Ain't shit going to happen to Goodell. The only way he gets in real danger, rather than just a bad PR scandal, is if sponsors start being vocal. Not that anyone will walk any from the shield, but all takes is NOW, or other groups actually having effective boycotts. Probably a 5-10 percent chance of that at best. . .
Gonzo Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 When's the next owners meeting? October 8, according to this.
Burgundy LaRue Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Robert Kraft and Jerry Jones are already on record defending Goodell. As long as he finds new ways to make them richer, the owners have no need to fire him.
Playa Shunna Ver 3.0 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Of course Jerry Jones is going to defend Roger. They are the only 2 who know about the thousands of dead hookers Jerry buried under that ginormous stadium. Also, that Stephen A rant is ridiculous. 2
evilwaldo Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Robert Kraft and Jerry Jones are already on record defeding Goodell. As long as he finds new ways to make them richer, the owners have no need to fire him. Kraft wants to pick up Rice next year for the Pats so Bill Simmons can write a long column about how the guy deserves a second chance and compares him to Vick while touting how great the Patriots will be now that they have a stud RB. 1
