I've already made multiple jokes about how much Brian Adias looks like 1980s Dave Meltzer when I review World Class episodes that I watch

I've never seen them together at the same time....

[Inner monologue is Dana Delaney as Lois Lane]

Why is Brian never around when Dave Meltzer appears? Could it be... no that's ridiculous, Dave Meltzer is, well Dave Meltzer and Brian is [turns head to watch Adias execute the "Oriental Tool" on one of the Simpson brothers] just Brian

[Dave Meltzer turns to the camera and winks]

Brian Adias was so vanilla, I'm still confused how they booked him in Texas title runs

(oh he wasn't afraid to bleed every now and then, that's right)

He was Kerry’s buddy since elementary school. That’s why he got so many chances while being so drab personality wise.

He may have also been Kerry's coke mule.

He was also insufferable as a character. There were some shows where every story revolved around his 'Authority Figure' decision making. He's not exactly a great talker to be on every goddamn segment of a show. Having had the opportunity to discuss all things Wrestling in a lengthy conversation with Scott, I know first hand that he's the reason, or at least a champion of, Impact/TNA being so insistent on Magic Camera Dramas and all the other WWE-lite bullshit that has long marred the product.

Absolutely.  I gave Impact a chance when the AEW crossover first started.  As soon as I saw D'Amore running around with a headset on making storyline decisions on camera, I noped right the fuck out of there.

Dave picking up female fans by pretending to be Brian Adias is some Saul Goodman/Kevin Costner shit.

Quite possibly. The one time Kerry came back from Mexico and his honeymoon he got popped at DFW airport with a bunch of pills and other assorted party favors.

Of course, Kerry really doesn't seem like he was bright enough to have a mule, like Hogan with Beefcake.

I've said it before in the TNA forum but I liked D'Amore's "overworked store GM" take on the authority figure. But he for sure learned at the foot of WWE style presentation and it's reflected in his stuff with the occasional out there parts (killing off characters that have expired contracts, the entire Undead Realm thing are 2 big ones) to not make it exactly like WWE week to week. I'm aware that there is a good chunk of folks on the board who don't like that style of presentation.

There's some rumblings that the termination was maybe related to the investigation in 2020/21 regarding harassment when Callis as in charge and D'Amore was #2 that might not have been a through investigation but it seems odd to do something about it now.

But strange times in the wide world of wrestling with these shake ups of higher ups.

Bret has though and that's all that matters.

My favorite part which may have been omitted is SOMEHOW being able to shit on Goldberg. We can always rely on Bret to do that.

said a million people who looked up "Von Erich family" on Wikipedia after watching The Iron Claw

I went to a showing this past week, and I was shocked that:

1. My showing was pretty full (75-80%), but then again, it seems my local theaters are coming back to normal after the pandemic. This goes especially during the weekend.

2. They clearly knew aspects of the story or old school wrestling fans by their reactions (especially as odessa points out in another thread regarding the World Class graphic packages). Usually if there are aspects of a story that's basically tragedy porn (and so much so they subtracted a son and play around with timelines), you tend to let it play out. I wanna say once they showed Maura Tierney get ready for her third funeral, I think it set in this story was too crazy.

I was surprised to see a packed half-theater of people out to see a 4K presentation of Escape from New York last night. From the parking lot and the apparent lack of ANYONE having picked a space on the computer monitor I got my ticket from, I expected to be totally alone so picked at random and boom, the whole place was full. I just sat down in the bottom row before the stairs started and nobody tried to take my seat. Surprisingly quiet group though, except for when Issac Hayes got lit up by Donald Pleasance.

I'm not surprised. People want to see something other than safe blockbuster fare and, for three months, Oscar bait.

Two of my best movie-going experiences of the past decade were Lawrence of Arabia and Some Like It Hot (the latter of which is even funnier from this point in the future for so many reasons).

I would love to get more showings of '70s films. That '70s movie channel on Pluto has put up so many good movies that I hadn't seen, but that I'd pay to see on a big screen.

the Undertaker being super-over in rural East Kentucky and Saudi Arabia is certainly a thing considering the gimmick and the people

like at this rate if the Undertaker made an appearance in Kabul, he'd be super-over with the Taliban somehow

WWE Speed will be airing exclusively on X (the hellsite formerly known as Twitter) starting in "Spring 2024", whenever that is

The format is "matches with a 5 minute time limit", also known as "Somebody at WWE discovered CMLL's Match Relampagos" but it'll probably rule if they use LVL Up guys in the matches instead of losing interest quickly, which they might.

Casablanca (with Carrotblanca, which is, well you know what it is) is playing on Sunday. We get Flashback revival showings all the time. This being Roger Ebert's hometown which used to have a rather literally named Art Theater, we got/get all the good shit and there are movies I keep catching myself being reminded "oh yeah I went to that".

They are of course also showing Oppenheimer again for Oscartime. After its what felt like 4-6 month run.

Sorry nerds begging for a return to the Attitude Era, this is as close as you're gonna get.
