  1. If we're gonna drag Lars, let's drag him for the racism and homophobia, not the past as a sex worker or whatever conflicted feelings he may have about his sexuality.

  9. I recommend the "Russian" category. The things those people can do in a sketchy looking apartment... *chef's kiss* Oh wait, you were probably talking about Lars, and not speaking generally. Never mind.

  13. The main event was an absolute corker: GAINA & HUB defending their tag titles against the indy dream team of Gamma & Super Shisa. It was also really cool to see Buffalo & Tsubasa back together working heel as Infinity in their black outfits. The best thing, though, was to share something I love with some new friends, (and also to have my new friends meet my old friends, and also just to see so many old friends again). There were a lot of new faces in the small crowd, but also a lot of people I hadn't seen for about five years and in every case the reunion was a very happy one. There was even one Osaka Pro fan who knew Chizuki from her English events, a very nice young woman named Mie: We all got packages of Wakame (a strong-tasting, in this case dried, seaweed that is quite nice with sake) and after the show (after Kenji and I helped break down the decorations while everyone else waited) we all went to a very nice Mexican restaurant in the Fukushima area of Osaka, a nice 18-minute walk from Noda Citizen's Hall (where the show was held). That was a pretty cool meal, with Japanese, English, Spanish, and French all being spoken at various times by various people (Gorge speaks French fluently. I cracked he and Esteve up with my basic Canadian high school French). The food was excellent, the conversation even better. I caught one of the last trains home.

  18. I was there live. It was the tail end of an epic weekend in which I woke up Friday morning in Miami and didn't sleep until Sunday night after Wrestlemania in Orlando. It was also fitting that I partied "Horsemen Style" leading up to Ric's retirement. Trust me, I made him proud the prior 2 days and nights lol.

  20. Allie Kat looked pretty fucked up after her match too. Indie wrestling really kind of sucks now for the most part. Amazing with how hot it was just a couple of years ago. It's going to take a long time to build up some star caliber talent. edit: Long doesn't always equal good but for the best storytellers you need time. However, we could all use more Giant vs. Meng type kaiju battles that are sub five minutes. And when a top guy is in there with a JTTS, you don't need to go 10+.

  26. I was watching Endgame for the first time a couple of days ago. The funeral scene at the end makes you realize the amount of acting talent that was involved with the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the years. There were something like 20 actors that either have won an Academy Award or were at least nominated for one in Endgame alone. If you look at the other movies, you'll get another 20 or so actors with an Oscar or a nomination.

  27. You've missed quite a few callbacks beyond that. A few that stand out off the top of my head: Clint tries to introduces himself to T'Challa in Civil War, only to be rebuked and told that his foe doesn't care who he is; T'Challa refers to Clint by name in the big battle here In Ant-Man & The Wasp, Hope scoffs at Scott saying he refers to Captain America as "Cap;" Hope calls Steve by that name in the final battle of Endgame Spider-Man finally initiates Instant Kill mode in a callback to Homecoming I'm sure there are plenty more. Those stick out to me.

  28. Forgot to mention Captain America refers to Spider-Man as "Queens" during the race to retrieve the Nano Gauntlet, a callback to their banter in 2016's Captain America: Civil War.

  31. Huge thanks to both @Matt Dand @OSJas both of you have been incredibly rad every time I hit a really down spot and talk about it here. This has, by and large, been a really good decade for me--I finally got a job good enough to support myself and not rely on my parents or disability, I'm physically and emotionally healthier than I was when I first moved to ATX nearly a decade ago, I am by and large okay. But if life is a series of hellos and goodbyes, this has been a very goodbye-heavy year, and I'm feeling it hard on my first solo NYE since 2012.

  37. Between this and seeing Rise with the 7 year old, we have restarted our Clone Wars watching. Now through ep 5 of S2. There's just so much of this show, so, so much, and so much of it is just stuff happening. There's no sense of forward motion. It's fine, but for a show that's so obviously going towards a place we all know, it's just one thing after another. It's a slog, especially compared to what I've seen of Rebels.

  38. Just came back from it. I hesitate to say role of a lifetime, because he was phenomenal in Punch Drunk Love. But this was a great movie, and not what I was expecting at all. Go into this movie cold. Adam Sandler is a gambler...just stop with that. Because that just scratches the surface. Not sure if Sandler wins the Oscar but he better get nominated. Not to mention, I am not kidding when I say one of the best scenes in the movie involves Kevin FUCKING Garnett. And this might have the weirdest cast in a major movie since The Informant!

  39. Or on-line booksellers! The wife and I decided we were going to be very low-key this year, no mega-dinner for family, no tree, presents between us limited to fifty bucks. She wanted cash which she took to the casino and played for sixteen hours losing ten dollars. Me, I got a signed copy of the new D.P. Watt collection, Petals and Violins. Dan is a terrific writer, and I am proud to call him a friend. He's like a British Ligotti or something, very weird stuff that just sucks you right in.

  41. The weird thing is- you can make an argument that Cody Rhodes isn't even the biggest indictment of the modern WWE system on the AEW roster. At least Cody was always notably good at working in that late 2000s-early 2010s WWE style, with that run where he was one of the few generic WWE trained guys who always seemed to find a spot on the Wrestlemania card when getting a Mania match meant you MATTERED that year. Even if he seemed bland and was the same as everyone else, there was a good chance that Cody was going to break out one of these days and become something special. Jake Hager, on the other hand? If you could pick a list of what you wanted the next top star in WWE to have in 2007, Hager would have ticked every single box on the list. The fact that he turned out to be forgettable and just another guy was probably a bigger indictment of the style than Cody not making it in the WWE was.
