NBA - 2013-14 Regular Season - 1st Half

Pau and the Summerleagues keeping it close at least.

This game has also featured one Tombstone dunk by LeBron and also an alley oop you'll see a lot of later. Although if they're letting Bosh through for 100 point blank shots in a half they're going to be worn down eventually.

I don't think you even need to do anything that drastic draft wise.  Knock down the %'s even more so the advantage you get for being the worst team in the league isn't overwhelming.

Also, get rid of this protecting picks nonsense.  You either take the risk and trade your first round pick or you don't. The way it is now, it gives team's more incentive to intentionally lose games to make sure they hang onto their pick.

IF they do that draft cycle bullshit, they might as well fold 2/3 of the league, because any decent draft pick will just wait until a big city team comes up.  Just make it so any team cant have back to back top three picks. . . .

With that kind of draft cycle, the NBA would turn into the MLB, minus the high salary caps.  All the best players end up in the big market teams, you forget the small market teams exist.  I'm surprised the NBA hasn't adopted that structure, frankly.

Watched Lakers-Heat on Christmas and actually watched the entire game after expecting a blow-out since its Christmas and the Lakers usually lay a big egg on those games, not to mention lack of any point guards besides a returning Jordan Farmar, and the Heat were at full strength (i.e. Lebron played). Very entertaining for the most part with the scrappy underdog Lakers taking the lead a few times on the Heat.  Heat force a lot of turnovers which really caught up with the Lakers since they have no point guards and they blitzed Xavier Henry quite a bit whenever he got the ball.

This might be the first time I've heard JVG actually say he enjoys watching the Lakers at home, which is true. Very fun team to watch despite all the injuries.

I kind of like Simmons idea of doing of grouping the teams and then there slotted into pick ranges with 5 different lottery, with the teams records being the bases on who's likely to get each pick.

The draft proposal idea is a fun idea but it will never, ever happen. Part of the fun of the NBA is the lottery. The NBA is all about these subtle things to get eyeballs (i.e. the sleeved shirt "controversy" from yesterday) and the lottery does just that.

What I would love to see happen, though, is a tournament among the non-playoff teams. Single elimination. The winning team gets to pick: You either get the #1 pick or take the 8-seed in the playoffs. On paper, everyone would take the #1 pick. A quasi-8 seed team ending up with the number one pick becomes a very good team if they don't pick Anthony Bennett in most years. But that would really piss off a lot of the players on the team (they should get rewarded for the year's of hard work and also 8 seeds have pulled off some series wins) and maybe keep the team from getting some free agents.
