Cliff Hanger Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 Phil Spector has died at 81. No eulogy for a murderer, but very few producers have left as much of a mark. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/phil-spector-dead-obit-67459/ 1
Curt McGirt Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 A few? Only Johnny. There was an anecdote (I think it was in Please Kill Me) about Dee Dee wondering what was the mysterious liquid in the goblet Spector kept drinking from all the time, then when he was out of the room he tried it and it was just Manischewitz.

He lived a rough life and apparently paid the price quite early. It's unlikely that an extreme(ish) metal band from Finland will ever reach such global (or international at least) success and popularity, again.
Curt McGirt Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 I didn't want to speak ill of the dead but he ruined Impaled Nazarene when he introduced that melodic style to them. Not that Mika's homophobia and nationalism didn't do the same thing...

Not that Mika's homophobia and nationalism didn't do the same thing... IN didn't need ruining for me. I have disliked them quite strongly ever since I became aware of them. The album cover of Mötorpenis is the only redeeming quality I can think of. It made me LOL in a record store when I first laid my eyes upon it. Other than that, fuck them! 1
Lamp, broken circa 1988 Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 If you don't mess with pop or electronic music, I don't know how to begin to explain the impact SOPHIE has had on music in the last decade, or how that influence fucking exploded across the world of electronic and marginalized artists after this record, but if you'd like to start to understand then spin this today. RIP SOPHIE
Curt McGirt Posted January 31, 2021 Posted January 31, 2021 RIP Hilton Valentine https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/hilton-valentine-animals-guitarist-dead-obit-1121412/

colonial Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 Music producer and rapper Prince Markie Dee, best known in the 80s for being one-third of the Fat Boys, has died at 52. Fat Boys The Twist - YouTube Fat Boys - Baby, You're a Rich Man (Disorderlies 1987) - YouTube 4
RIPPA Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 I watched Disorderlies so much when I was a kid I can't believe he was only 52
supremebve Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 Prince Markie Dee wrote and produced Mary J. Blige's "Real Love." That's one of those before and after songs. Everything before that was New Jack Swing, but everything after moved more into Hip-Hop Soul. That's a huge contribution to the culture, on top of everything he did with The Fat Boys.
OSJ Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 Always thought we were about the same age, 52 is way too young to check out.
J.T. Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 Damn, Stick 'Em was an anthem on my block back in the day. RIP Markie Dee. 2

J.T. Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 I think I have seen The Wailers live more than any other band I am fond of. RIP.
