MLB 2013-14: OFFSEASON THREAD

The weird thing about the position the Cubs are in is that it feels like there isn't one GM who wants to commit to anything with them. They got totally played last offseason by the Tigers, there was all the weird shit surrounding the deal to send Dempster to Atlanta, they couldn't get Texas to commit to trading Olt and others for Garza until after Garza's next start where he was then injured, etc. Theo is working his ass off to trade Shark and nothing is happening. So what happens in the meanwhile are these lateral moves, which are moves for the sake of making moves. The other problem is that Theo and Jed came in thinking they would have a solid budget to work with, only to later find out they were sold a false bill of goods by Tom Ricketts. Turns out, the Cubs budget is extremely limited and because of the deal to purchase the team from Sam Zell and the Tribune, they're hamstrung from increasing their budget. The fallout from that sale still isn't complete either. It's fucking insane.

So for now, unless they can make a sweet trade, which they can't since each GM is seemingly out to make Theo look like a fool, they're limited to one good free agent pickup per season, who is at risk of getting flipped when the team isn't competitive by the All-Star break. It's terribly frustrating and troubling because all the eggs are in the minor league basket. The org is practically betting everything on Baez, Soler, Bryant, and Alcantara being the real deal. All look like sure things, but you never know.

$1 billion to bring back baseball to Montreal - $525million for a team and $500 for a downtown stadium

That's probably too much money for MLB to bite and I don't see Montreal putting up that much cash for a stadium either. Oh well...

The Rangers used the Rule 5 draft to pluck a currently not playing prospect from the Rockies for 12 grand.

His name:  Russell Wilson.

So the Rangers have the best QB in the state of Texas now, good for them.

Johnny is still in College Station for a few more weeks.

Are we really saying the QB that Mizzou hed to 200 yards the week before they allowed over 500 rushing is better then a QB who has led his team to 11-2?

After Fister was traded, I figured all Tigers fans would just throw the hands up and say fuck it.

Although I can't find a positive for the Tigers in that deal, it shouldn't cripple the team or anything.  They still have a hell of a rotation.
