He reverses it because.... well... the red side hurts more??

I always assumed that it was a wrestling physics thing. In wrestling physics, a flip makes a move hurt more, like a 450 splash being more powerful than a regular splash, all other things being equal. Barrett makes his elbow pad do a flip, thus adding to the impact of the elbow. A bit indy-riffic if you ask me, but it pops the crowd.

Don't forget "being outside the ring" and "sit-out" as two other things that make moves hurt more. The 450 I can understand (a little) because it adds extra momentum... SSP not so much, but it's a cool visual so who cares?

From WREDDIT:

Was at Raw in Albany - You can thank overzealous Times Union security for the dead crowd

I was sitting in the section facing the camera, just behind the ringside seats and I couldn't believe the madness I was watching.

The ringside section camera side had 3 security guards on each side of it and then 2 to 3 security people roaming the floor. Every time people stood up, security would start telling them to sit down, even during entrances and high spots.

In particular, I saw it when:

  • As soon as Daniel Bryan entered the ring, security started telling everyone to sit down, even little kids who were in no way blocking people's view. When the bell rang, they started singling out people, yelling to get their attention and telling them to sit down like it was a tennis match.
  • After Seth Rollins hit that amazing somersault over the top rope and the crowd was on their feet, security pounced again signaling everyone to sit down. They did it again when Harper was trying to fire up the crowd.
  • As the main event started, 3 guys got into a small argument with a guy sitting with his girlfriend, but it ended quickly, they resolved it like adults and resumed watching the main event. Security flooded the section and escorted them out of the building.

I have been going to wrestling shows for two decades and I have never saw anything like this in my life. Next time WWE comes to Abany, they should tell the powers that be at the arena to tell their security staff that WWE isn't a broadway play.

Thank you to r/necroreefer for posting this vid where you see the security guard waiving people down as soon as the bell rings: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/kjhgHoZdaDWbMs7qdmX?start=1300

Renaming him The Demon Kane must be WWE's response to The Monster Abyss...as horrible as that sounds.

Or The Virgin Connie Swail.

waits to see how many people sat through that movie.

I knew I liked you for a reason.

how the fuck do you wind up with security that is so fucking unaware that they treat the WWE like it's a fucking movie theater? holy shit. They could have had a better show in North Korea because at least those people might realize that people will cheer at a pro wrestling show

Lousy thing is, it's not like there are any tag teams in NXT ready to move up.  Ascension have been killing scrubs for MONTHS and the only other teams are guys that just recently got thrown together like Jordan/Dillinger and Kalisto/Local.

Adding a pumphandle to the beginning of a move also makes it more powerful even though all it does is make the lift more complicated than it needs to be.

Posted

I always saw the pumphandle as more of a way to disorient the opponent by spinning them around before hitting them with the slam, thus making it more impactful because they can't really tell what's going on to prepare themselves for the eventual impact

I kind of liked that Cole pointed out how shitty Torito's candy throwing was.

"Hey, he just threw that to the same people as before!"

I'd have Big E turn heel as the new Real American, make him and Swagger the top threat the the Usos.

Meanwhile, Tyson Kidd and Justin Gabriel are right there...They're right there! And I'm assuming they still have their matching highlighter yellow gear.

I'm hoping the downfall of the tag division means we get a 3MB title reign.

Poor Adam Rose, they continue to screw up the NXT to WWE transition. It cannot be that difficult!

The announcers didn't help things, but man was it doomed anyway. The small entourage works in the small Full Sail venue, but Monday Night Raw? They needed like 20 more people with some crazy street performers thrown in, not just jobbers in viking hats.

Posted

I just hate how the announce team calls the NXT debuts, JBL is heel but sides with no one ever. Jerry is confused and Cole is the Zeppo of the bunch. UGH! Can we get Regal and Rene or something else?

Posted

The entourage seemed fairly shy/tame. I need to go back and rewatch it, but live, it seemed like they were pretty half-hearted about it.

Also, rumblings say they might finally bring back Bourne and team him with Kidd.

Okay...quick thing...why did WWE have to make Alexan...I'm sorry...just Rusev hail from Bulgaria if he was going to have a Russian mouthpiece?

I mean, I get that given WWE Creative's usual simplistic way of thinking they just had to find a way to use the oh so clever "Bulgarian brute" as a nickname but couldn't he just as easily have been nicknamed the "Russian Destroyer" or something similar? Or was it just imperative that his nickname be alliterative? Of course they could have just made Lana a Bulgarian as well if they wanted to go that route with Rusev but I get them wanting to capitalize on the USA-Russia-Snowden-Puitin-Ukraine news...just seems they could have found a less simple-minded way of doing so.

Anyway...just my two cents...carry on.

Due to a combination of extreme tiredness on my part and the usual post-Mania doldrums, I tapped out on Monday after about an hour. I still wanted to know what happened, though, so I tried to read the recap at the F4W site. Unfortunately, the guy who wrote it was such a tool that I nearly threw my laptop out the window. Are there any recappers who aren't total dipshits?

My god, I got through the 1st match on the F4W/WON website recap and closed the tab.  That guy is insufferable!

Sadly the highlight of RAW for me was the Twitter discussion over the lack of diversification in Rusev's opponents

I was reading the Twitter on Monday as well, and I'm glad you guys noticed it too.  All we need now is for Rusev to do a promo ala Booker threatening Hulk Hogan.

I can understand why they don't want JBL talking up faces from nxt BUT it makes him look like an idiot when he acts like he's never seen these people but Cole says 'And he/she competed in nxt where JBL is the commissioner'

Raw wasn't awful. Parts of it were, however.

I'm a Shield mark. They made me happy again. While I dislike Evolution and Triple H in particular, they are just the dicks to get the Shield over even further as "the next big thing." Hell, I even loved the battle royal because I got to watch Dean Ambrose DAMN NEAR WIN.

Cesaro is always fun to watch. Unfortunately, he keeps getting matched with the human carnival booth, the airbrushed avenger, the creature from 1997, RVD. Please RVD, go away.

I could gay marry Bad News Barret. I am so hopeful that he can live up to the potential I think we're all seeing in him right now.

Despite the previous gay marriage proposal, Lana makes me feel so funny in my pants. Also, it's time to move Rusev into position where he's working competitive matches. I stand by my assertion that, booked right, Rusev could be Vader 2.0.

Bray Wyatt on the mic is Florida Kevin Sullivan for the 21st century.

Now then, I'm sure other things happened that weren't shitty. Bryan/Kane/Brie/Steph was not one of them. I understand that the WWE prefers the term "sports entertainment" and that they see themselves as an entertainment brand. With that said, I cannot see how ANYONE in control of the creative direction of the company or anyone who knows anything about earning quarter hour shares gave a green light to that embarrassing shit. Seriously, excruciatingly, stupid. This is the shit that people seem to forget when they wax nostalgic for the Attitude days. I didn't dig it then, I didn't miss it when I walked away, and I hope it dies again soon.
