Every week Briscoe and O'Reilly are together, I feel more and more validated for my KOR fandom.  It makes me happy that despite losing his best friends, OC found some new ones along the way. haha.

Kyle showed some bits of that weird charisma in NXT but since coming back he's had more chances to lean into it and it's wonderful.  Working with Briscoe will definitely do that to ya and Orange being Orange makes it all work.  Plus I swear somebody here said they should be called The Conglomeration so it appears somebody there is reading the board.  Side note:  Hi, TK!

I was hoping the 6-man would be in the 8pm hour before my wife goes to bed.  Thankfully it was as she loved Hiromu ever since she saw the stuff with the Daryl plush (which of course we have).  That was so much fun and the show in general had goodness all the way through.  Even the opening talking segment accomplished a lot by setting up Sunday, the following week, All In and in all that a MJF/Ospreay match for whenever it happens.  I might have saved it for the 9pm hour but regardless of segment placement it was great.

The goofy promo was... okay... but pretty forced. I like the hype energy with him responding to Chicken better. Make this a one-off.

Honestly there were a couple points where I could almost feel him wanting to add Dusty's lisp to the cadence (understandably so). I didn't hate it, but agree - less is more there.

A show of hands, who thinks Jericho SHOULD have watched the Suzuki video before broadcasting it to us guys? I wonder if he learned something,  there?

Would have been just as amusing if Jericho said he watched it before they added the subtitles and he thought it was a friendly video before that

I liked it.  Not to get all therapy about it, but KOR's entire thing since he's come back has been about overcoming his doubts and self-actualizing so being inspired by and then emulating Mark feels like a natural part of his arc.  His having doubt about whether he was pulling it off or not was a cute touch, too.

Yeah. "As you guys know, I've been to Japan 60 times, so I'm very fluent in Japanese!" And proceeds to understand zero of what Suzuki was saying.

I LOL'd at Jericho saying he's there to help the young guys.  We also had Sydal Tweeting the same thing, while Turbo Floyd, youngest guy in the biz, said he's here to help the old guys.  Everybody good naturedly dunking on Cody is always fun.

Hangman as the wild card would be cool and building to another match with him and Swerve sounds about right, but where would that leave Danielson?

Hearing Excalibur mention PWG on commentary always make me happy.

Damn, that's a TON of extra NJPW stuff booked on the go-home show.

Schiavone disappeared halfway through the show because he lost his voice.

Thank god for Tanahashi.  He's lost a step or three, but ANYTHING that keeps Billy Gunn out of a match is appreciated.

YOU SOFT, BOY!  YOU PEPPA PIG!

Did MJF fuck up and say Forbidden Door is August 30th?  Cheap plug: that's my bday.

Kyle vs Sabre was awesome.  Overall, just a really great show.  I was fading out on the main and need to rewatch.

"I just couldn't understand his accent guys, I totally know Japanese" *does a memorized Japanese phrase*

Like when Curry Man would do promos in TNA, and he'd just go "Misawa Mitsuharu, Kobashi Kenta."?

I can see this. Fair.

Tony seemed to immediately vanish and I almost thought he walked off because they (Ex and Taz) were ribbing him, or he was only supposed to call the open.

They were never going to come close to matching last year’s Forbidden Door hype with Okada/Danielson and Omega/Ospreay, but I feel like this year’s build on the New Japan side of things has been kind of depressing. They just have zero stars in America at this point. Not a single NJPW guy got a pop aside from Tana calling himself Scissor Ace. And Buffalo was a regular stop on the old ROH/NJPW tours, so this was theoretically a crowd that should know and care about these guys.

'Forget it Jake, it's... Buffalo'

I've heard and seen a lot of talk about the NJPW guys not getting much reaction, but I believe if you were to go back and watch any of the Buffalo AEW shows you'd see and hear similarily a dull subdued crowd. For crowd response, Buffalo is a terrible city to book leading into Forbidden Door. That said, if this Dynamite had emanated from the same venue as a ROH/NJPW show with a similar capacity it surely would've sounded a lot louder. With or without those loud barricades. Regardless, you're completely right in every way concerning the freezing cold fish that is New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Thought it was another strong show with lots of good wrestling and story progression.  Opening segment was a little long for my tastes but at least it accomplished a few things and set the tone of Ospreay being a cocky dick trying to upstage everyone.  Rooting for Swerve to retain so hopefully it bites him in the ass.  Main event was lots of fun, GoA looked good in defeat and I liked Swerve finally snapping on Will to end the show

Was the opener advertised at all?  Twitter at 5 pm?  I was pleasantly shocked to see BCC vs. LIJ out of nowhere.  Hiromu is awesome but he's been an afterthought in AEW.  He was supposed to be on the original Forbidden Door as Dudes With Attitudes with Sting and Darby, couldn't make the show, then I think he was on the pre-show last year.  In my mind he's a huge star you advertise ahead of time and a dude who'd get over here, but I guess I'm a sicko

Acclaimed looked in the best shape of their lives and based on that and the way that segment went I'm guessing it's them and The Bucks at Wembley.  Scissor Ace broke Okada.  I don't know if I like Hangman being back with The Elite and the wild card if that's where it's going.  I haven't watched Jarrett's promo yet but based on the response and how he's going to be a huge babyface in the match he should probably get a win in this tourny

Mina's awesome.  This story could be about to run it's course and I don't know what her Japanese commitments are but I'm hopeful she becomes a semi-regular at least.  That 6 woman was pretty good, I like this new version of the Outcasts

I'm a Schiavone fan but I didn't even notice he was gone until Orange was on commentary.  OC was pretty great during the break

Sabre and KOR was dope, coming off the tease we got in the 8 man last week.  Much better showcase for Zack.  Jay White and Fenix was ok, I just assume Fenix is always working hurt at this point and is limited.

Other than the lack of CMLL (but why would any of them want to go to Buffalo) really good build to Forbidden Door, pretty jazzed for that show

I once did a job for my employer down in Miami, and the point of contact was this big jovial Latino dude who was so excited to tell me about his vacation home in Rochester NY. He showed me pictures of him standing in the snow, hanging out with his truck, etc. Blew my little New Englander mind.

The MJF/Garcia/Ospreay Talk segment was fairly well executed, but like much of this show an unnecessary detour on the road to the PPV. The mythical Garcia run that impresses the top guys is absurd - this run includes wins over Butcher, Rhett Titus, Comoroto, Tate Mayfairs, Workhorsemen, KM, Righteous, Taylor/Moriarty.  Who doesn’t like Danny, but a total stretch to suggest he’s done anything of much consequence. Good on Garcia for presenting himself well amidst the lame duck pleading to the locals. Further, I’d love to hear their booking logic for MJF - instead of competing in the Owen for the Main Event at Wembley he'll battle mid-card Danny whom he handily defeated prior. Ospreay was wacky here and the best part of this opening. MJF burying Hechicero was incredibly disappointing. Despite Fonzie's burial I'm thrilled for the match. The Swerve promo in response to Ospreay handing out faux title shots was solid. I liked BCC v Takahashi/Shingo/Titan, and could care less what Buffalo thought of it or them. Takahashi v Wheeler, please. I'm ready for a Claudio push. The timing of Naito’s walk in/strip down was a total thrill kill or unintentionally funny, not sure yet? Fenix v White was an excellent sub-10 minute match. Sigh of relief to see all the Ass/Juice get off my TV. Nothing shittier in AEW than multiple heel cornermen (Jarrett’s group, the Kingdom, these goofs, etc.). Patriarchy v Bangers, right on! The Bucks promo was full of the laughs they always provide. FFWDD the Acclaimed. I love Okada, but not as sold as the next guy on the Bitches catchphrase. AEW’s protected ICONIC LEGEND GOAT Daddy Ass would totally kill all three of the Elite if he got anywhere close to them. I’m not sure what Okada’s infamous TNA run looked like, but Assman would surely provide similar results. Briscoe/OC/O Reilly promo was terrific – as was the Toni/Mariah/Mina v Harley/Saraya/Anna trios. Dug all the plotting and the post match angle. Very much looking forward to the match. The Learning Tree segment was mindboggling. What in the fuck is the Forbidden Door match? I actually liked the segment, but it's a far cry from clean storytelling. I love the Bad Apple. ZSJ v O’Reilly was a joyous 11 minutes. of TV. ZSJ has been NJPW's best possible top guy for as long as they've been struggling. They really oughtta (top) Belt that beautiful man. All the extras in the post match coupled with the Learning Tree segment has me wondering if there was an intent to confuse the marketplace. Gabe Kidd has IT and needs to jump ship to one of the big 2 immediately. That said, why the fuck is he getting TV time on the road to the PPV? Uneasy partners 2 (at least 2 of everything in AEDub): Ospreay/Swerve v Gates provided some fun. I like the Gates just fine. They’ve come a long way. But a smidge of credibility would go a long way for endearing these battling brutes to the audience seeking a 'Main Event'. Swerve's post match attack on Ospreay was fanfuckingtastic. This was incredibly sloppy storytelling en route to the PPV with so many players not involved, but still... kind of a fun show.

I'm up your way(ish) and let me tell you, I almost lost my mind when I found out that Puerto Ricans love eating Sea Robin when they come up to visit. "Seems like a generalization, Zakk" you might say. No; it is not. Multiple generations, families, socioeconomic statuses, gay, straight, trans, preacher, ex-con, any 'demo' you can think of, I've heard the same thing - if they are from the island and visiting NE/the tristate area, they *will* ask about it. I offended a co-worker badly once because I was like "The poisonous fish that literally scream at you?" I felt terrible!!! I've been to San Juan three times, and had no idea it was a delicacy.

Just thought of a way to get over the MJF/Danny thing. Have them both racking up wins against midcarders ascending the ladder until it's just the two of them. Non-title wins against champs. Foreign talent. Stable leaders. Etcetera. Make it a competition between the two of them like they've got matching bats and are making notches in them. Everyone else kind of gets buried but it's for the greater good.

EDIT: Oooo oooo oooo! Have Max sneaking out cheap wins while Danny goes the hard route.

Like when Nigel Benn was chasing a rematch with Chris Eubank, but Eubank was insisting he had nothing to prove against Benn, and was instead bringing in random Boxers from around the world to defend his belt against?

Benn started repeatedly fighting opponents who Eubank had previously beat, to prove he could KO the guys Eubank outpointed (or KO them in an earlier round). He called it the "Anything Eu can do" tour.

I had no idea who these boxers were and all I could think was this is the most British-sounding post of the day.  I hope both men wore their fighting trousers.  All it's missing is someone referring to a truck as a lorry.  🤣

Well, to address the easier part of this question, I think MJF's in-character reason for letting Garcia have another shot at him was plausible. (Ignoring for the moment your perfectly reasonable point that Garcia's win streak is a lot of nothing.) And while AEW is somewhat vague sometimes about exactly how matches are made, generally if all competitors in a suggested match want it it'll happen.

But yeah, my initial reaction to the suggestion was "Why is MJF booking himself into a non-title match for Wembley?". Then I remembered that the world title shot for Wembley was going to the winner of the Owen - but of course that just kicks the question down the road to become "Why didn't MJF get a spot in the Owen?". And then the related question, "Why is MJF seemingly not upset that he didn't get a spot in the Owen?". That one strikes me as the hardest to explain; you could handwave any number of reasons for his not being included, but given his character even as a face I can't see why he wouldn't be pissed off about it.
