Curt McGirt
COLLISION -- THE GO-HOME PPV SHOW -- CRACKING THE FORBIDDEN DOOR Spoiler Tag match was The Orange Cassidy Show. As it should be. His response to Shane Haste shaking his ass at him was hilarious. This was a reminder that any time he wants to, Orange can bust out some mindblowingly complicated stuff and not just coast on the gimmick and his spots. Later on ZSJ calls him "O-ren-gee" haha. That's probably why he's throwing out the neat stuff in this match, he's proving he can hang with Tekkers. More Lady Frost, fuck yeah! Even if she's a JTTS at this point I'm always happy to see her get a spot on the card. Nice, teched-out match with Vaquer, this is my first exposure to her and I am pleased. Her finisher looks like something that Thunder Rosa would horribly fuck up and possibly cripple someone with. Too many pans over to Mone however; who gives a shit if she's making faces. Sexy Star runs in and doesn't screw up anything! Our boy Hiromu speaking English is pretty cool. Serena gets a squash. She gets a mic and says the same thing she's been saying for months. She sounds a little emotional about it by now. Riho appears so at least there's someone there for her to fight. Belt or not the fans will always be behind Riho so that'll always be an over match for someone to have. This Jericho gimmick like he's badly reading off a teleprompter is just the pits. Can Joe have a flashback to 2005 and Exploder him off the apron onto his forehead? Hey there's Jeff Cobb. Remember when he was the focus of an entire promotion. Yeah neither do I. Still, him versus Joe will be cool. HECHICERO GETS A SQUASH~! Blackwood is a local kid and gets a cheer and even a chant but he's just there to be tortured. Hechicero does a flapjack which I believe is what he might've been trying on Daddy Magic that got fucked up last time. Win is with a tricked-out Rings of Saturn variation where Hech uses his legs?! Wild. Jay has some sick burns for the Patriarchy. "The wife, the son and the dinosaur" *Luchasaurus growls* "That must be the wife", "It's too bad the mother drank so much during pregnancy", good job son. Butcher can do the Bob Backlund duck walk! There's a funny perspective shot that looks like we have him vs. a giant Danny Garcia. I always dig his standing crossbody and he clubbers pretty hard in this one. Danny actually gives A LOT to Butch, pretty much the entire match, before unceremoniously piledriving him after a lariat for the win. Weird. I think I heard Ex say they were both Buffalo boys so perhaps that was arranged on purpose to give Butcher some shine which Danny doesn't really need. They leave in arms so that's probably it. The hair of Kyle Fletcher just looks even more incredibly stupid every time I see it. Amazing. Goddamn this is a long Collision. I am going to fast forward. Sorry Deonna... it's a Shida match. Toni steps on broken glass for both the foot fetishists and S&M enthusiasts in the audience, and paraphrases the Statue of Liberty poem? There is a six man and Magic 8-Ball says it will have a spot where EVERYONE HITS EACH OTHER AND FALLS DOWN. I will trust in it tonight. Chicken jumps off a ladder! We have a weigh-in! We have a pull-apart! And we are OUT. This was pretty fun if inconsequential stuff, a good go-home. I mean I am not complaining about getting Lady Frost and Hechicero.

Curt McGirt
I want to change what I said about Lady Frost and say she's more a midcard gatekeeper than a JTTS. One, 'JTTS' is somewhat denigrating of a term, and two, she seems above it. It's more fair and deservative of someone who honestly deserves an angle and a belt instead of where she's at.

But I feel the recent and frequent use of Lady Frost is a sign of her regard within the company. Considering others like Julia and Skye have played similar roles and found avenues to get elevated to more high profile matches. She should be feeling more confident in her position. She’s hot. I’m sold she has it. Bonus: Helping out Stephanie before Moné out star powers her at least sold me the match. That’s gotta score some points. We like points.

I will ask the simple question though: has she won a single match in AEW? It looks like she is about 0-11. She seems like a solid hand but... gatekeepers win a good amount of matches. It appears she is 6-15 in ROH so... if she goes on a winning streak there she could be a ROH midcard gatekeeper? Not a knock on her talent but as of now she is what she is in AEW, which is bottom of the food chain.

I think the vignette either clearly telegraphed that he was definitely going to be the wildcard or clearly telegraphed that he definitely wasn't. I'm just not sure which. (Except I tried googling the bracket before the show and wound up going to Wikipedia, which had the results of this match already filled in. Fuck Wikipedia.) AEW has taken (not unreasonable) criticism for having too many matches that are forgone conclusions, but I think they've done a good job with the Owen this year. This result was a surprise, and while Switchblade vs Fenix was more of a toss-up, I certainly wasn't expecting Switchblade to win cleanly.
tbarrie
And a random thought regarding Dynamite: I'm surprised I haven't seen any complaints about the DQ in the BCC vs LIJ match. (Apologies if I missed a post.) I mean, I'm definitely in the camp that feels AEW, and bookers in general, shouldn't shy away from bullshit finishes if they're used sparingly and where appropriate. But I don't see the need for this one. Is there any reason Wheeler or (preferably) Claudio couldn't just lay down for Shingo?
