AEW TV - 6/26 - 7/2/2024 - Oh No, There Goes Mark Briscoe! Go Go Godzilla!

In order to win the Owen, you have to wrestle multiple TV matches in ONE month. MJF isn't about that. He wants the Undertaker schedule.

Further, I’d love to hear their booking logic for MJF - instead of competing in the Owen for the Main Event at Wembley he'll battle mid-card Danny whom he handily defeated prior.

That one strikes me as the hardest to explain; you could handwave any number of reasons for his not being included, but given his character even as a face I can't see why he wouldn't be pissed off about it.

These are excellent points that I agree with wholeheartedly, but I also think (or hope, at least) that we'll get a story answer in a short period of time - kinda similarly to a post I replied to yesterday about his actions maybe making more sense in a few weeks.

I think the Garcia promo and MJF's calm reaction to the Ospreay upstaging - these are all little kernels of babyface behavior 'blowing up in his face' that are going to add up. So when he DOES finally snap and turn back heel, I think we'll end up with a scorching promo where he'll go down a laundry list of these kinda things

(e.g. 'I pledged my loyalty to Cody Rhodes and he abandoned me, I paid Wardlow an absurd amount of money to watch my back and he powerbombed me, I opened up to CM Punk about my disability and he beat me with a chain, I trusted that son of a bitch Adam Cole and he cost me my focus and made me lose my title, then finally two weeks ago I tried to help a young guy out by giving Dan Garcia the privilege of wrestling me in Wembley.... And what did you all do? You turned around and cheered for Will Ospreay instead of me. That's the thanks I get for doing the right thing? Suck my balls.')

Obviously that's not verbatim, but something along these lines would I think answer all our questions about both the lack of MJF in the tourney, and why MJF would even want the Garcia match - his character's motivation was simply trying to do something good for once, that he felt would be truly beneficial and high-profile for Garcia, only for it to become a "no good deed goes unpunished" thing and drive him back into his old ways.

Now let's see if they can stick the landing.

But winning the tournament grants you a guaranteed world title shot.

So I’ve seen some people post different places that Hangman Page will or should be the Elite representative in the tournament. I don’t get why everyone overlooks the Bucks firing both he and Kenny from The Elite.

To me the more logical option, and the one that would draw more heat especially here would be to have the other Adam be The Elite representative. The one that’s been begging for the world title, and has headlined Wembley before. That’s right I think it’s Adam Cole Bay Bay. And I for one can’t wait to see (hopefully with an uploaded video) a certain posters head explode when that happens next week.

I had the same thought but Hangman was merely suspended from The Elite rather than fired someone pointed out to me.

Random observation: on Fite/Triller right now, the graphic for tonight's Rampage is advertising Gabe Kidd & Roderick Strong vs The Infantry. And I know Rampage doesn't get much in marquee matches these days, but surely that can't possible be the biggest match tonight, can it? Who the fuck is Gabe Kidd?

Some Guy From New Japan.

... I think he's involved with Bullet Club, and might've been the other guy in the match where Eddie Kingston got hurt?

(A quick search later - yes. He also took the New Japan Strong Openweight Title in that match... which, for some reason, was a "No Rope Last Man Standing match" ...?)

It's kind of a weird card tonight, very Forbidden Door-heavy. No knock on the rest of it but I'm most looking forward to Skye Blue vs Queen Aminata, I hope that one gets some time. Fox/El P could be sneaky good too. But yeah, fully agree - I have zero interest in that tag

FORBIDDEN DOOR 2024 is just two days away, and after a raucous DYNAMITE this past Wednesday night, AEW has a wild RAMPAGE in store for the AEW faithful as well! The final qualifier for the TNT Championship Ladder Match goes down when El Phantasmo takes on AR Fox, the unique team of Roderick Strong and NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion Gabe Kidd take on The Infantry, and Orange Cassidy is set to take on both Outrunners by himself! Plus we will see Shingo Takagi fight former ROH World Champion Dalton Castle while former training partners Skye Blue and Queen Aminata go one-on-one!

I'm looking forward to ELP/AR Fox, and I'm happy to find out it's for a spot in the TNT title ladder match, so we're likely to see ELP on Sunday as well.

Hangman was suspended not fired.

I think it would be better for Hangman to oppose the Elite logic-wise , but still hate Swerve and say he'll deal with him later, or demand a title shot in exchange for not killing Swerve then and there the way Joe did vs MJF.

What's-His-Name trying to use the expression "stop at nothing" and coming up with "will do nothing to stop at victory" is my new favourite malapropism. For the moment.

Hell yeah the shorter Outrunner would be great for Kevin Sullivan! Give him the cosmic cookie and let him roll his eyes up for a Halloween show. The Orange Punch always looks good.

"A real ring a ding dong dandy" Okay Chris, you got me with that one. Renee too, who I'm sure loved hearing that last name.

Aaaaaaand that's all I got of Rampage until I do a little rewatch. It is exactly as much as I wrote before going to scour for dinner

Cole turned on the Bucks prior to his concussion, so there’d be some ‘splaining to do.

Good to know. I was wondering the same as the above.

Gabe Kidd is a goddamn tornado of charisma. He seems cut out of a bygone era of pro wrestling. He’s responsible, kayfabe at least, for the Kingston injury. I see him as the best sports entertainer/wrestler prospect since Friedman. And there’s no way he isn’t on Heyman’s radar.

Anybody who doesn't know who Gabe Kidd is should track down his singles match vs. HENARE from New Japan's Korakuen show on 2/4/2024. You'll find out right quick. It's an excellent match.

Side note: folks have gotten so caught up with House of Torture and complaining about Finlay, that they're missing out on several Bullet Club guys who are doing really good work right now. Gabe Kidd, Drilla Moloney, and Clark Connors are all quite fun to watch. It's a shame Alex Coughlin had to retire because he'd also be on the list.

Blue-Aminata was a great match. Skye doing a job for her bestie to help her work towards an ROH title is being a good hand, considering her spot as JTTMain Eventers.

El P vs. AR Fox was a fun sprint.

Shingo-Castle was solid, if short.

Tag was fine, Infantry kinda suck so not much you can do.

Harley being extra wacky was maybe a bit much, but calling Saraya an “unproblematic icon” was funny. Lots of womens matches at Forbidden Door. Saraya already beat May once, can May do another carry job AND get a win back?

I'm hoping that they don't go this route, but I was thinking there's a chance that The Elite may end up announcing Christian Cage as the Wild Card. He was meeting with The Elite in a backstage segment a few weeks ago so there's still an alliance between the two groups. I could see them having him beat Jeff to get his one on one match with Jay White while continuing the rivalry with Bullet Club Gold.

I'd rather it be Hangman but after he wins, he lets The Elite know that he's not with them as much as he hates Swerve. From there he could be on the babyface team in Blood & Guts match where he plays the Nikita Koloff role where everyone is wondering if he can be trusted.

For the finals, I would go with Danielson winning and then taking the belt from Swerve.  At Wrestle Dream, you can go with the story of Swerve wanting to win the belt back in his hometown. *This is assuming Danielson is sticking around.

I actually really like the Adam Cole idea assuming he's good to go and Swerve is keeping the belt Sunday. He can weasel his way through the tourney, and would provide a fresh and credible main event level challenge for Swerve at All In, which lets you get back to Swerve/Danielson in Tacoma. You can have MJF hold off the Elite to reignite that feud for a violent blow-off at All Out. You'd have to address the Undisputed Kingdom thing, but Adam Cole can act slimy enough to play both sides. Ultimately, everyone abandons him, and you can fully reset his character.

Lol. Adam Cole isn't close to cleared. That's why they wrote him off of TV. And putting the World Title on Adam Cole would be so stupid it defies logic. Thanks for thinking of me, though. I missed you, buddy.

Vignettes for Hangman's return began on Collision, so that had me thinking he wouldn't be the wildcard now.

Really thought Deonna would advance in the Owen, so slightly surprised to see her lose to Shida. Good match. As was Vaquer/Frost. Riho/Serena sounds great.   Also loved Skye/Aminata II on Rampage.

Jeff Cobb has the Learning Tree's third man works, though I am disappointed that I guess this means Suzuki isn't involved at all in Forbidden Door. Still looks like a pretty epic card overall though.

Hikaru Shida is like the one person in AEW who can pull off a win in a match that looks dead lost based on booking trends. I've been a huge advocate for such results and it was refreshing, but I do feel for Deonna here. Dragging out the Rosa program seems pointless. Deeb's floating around looking for an opponent, why not pair her with Deonna for a bit?

Swerve/Ospreay continues to be great. Really hoping the match gets to play out straight before the Callis bullshit kicks in. They've already burned matches with Takeshita and Fletcher, and no one's buying Beretta (or Rush with all due respect) as a threat to Ospreay, so there's no real angle there.

Deeb vs Deonna would be interesting, because they're both Great technicians.

They should be the elitist heel team looking down on all of the other women who lack their superior technique.

Happy to see both Shida and Riho again.
