odessasteps Posted May 18, 2024 Posted May 18, 2024 There are prob some people here who wish they could run the Sam Houston Coliseum. 1

Still not super convenient for bus service after hours but a cheaper ride share. Moody Center is actually super convenient for me because it's on the #7 route, which is the same bus I take to work and it runs til midnight. I was shocked at the ease of getting to and from there when Peter Gabriel came thru. Unfortunately I don't think they could sell enough tickets right now to make it worthwhile to play there again. 1

I'm tempted to steal @RazorbladeKiss87 Mickie James joke from the TNA thread and say "Oh, cmon, plenty of people still dig Peter Gabriel" but I'll spare you On the real, a quick Wiki says that building holds ~10K for hoops, so if they bump the stage up a bit like they've done before in DC or at last year's grand slam, I bet they could do 4-5K. Might be a few empty up top if you're accounting for floor seats, but it seems at least doable (with the caveat that the advertising game needs some legitimate effort). Unless the rental fee is exorbitant, if worst comes to worst and they fuck it up and only end up doing 2300, you can always close the hard cam side of the bowl like any other building no? 2

I caught Xplosion flipping around this morning, and was asking where I knew Gisele Shaw from by describing a segment where she cut a promo on Mickie James, but I botched the phrasing so he said something like "Mickie's been around forever" - hence my own attempted switcharoo above. I cannot believe you made me repeat this lol (Also, it ends up the answer was WOW, she worked under a different name there)
The Natural Posted May 19, 2024 Posted May 19, 2024 I've listed my Best AEW Matches Ever but never my worst till now. Some of these picks will be controversial. Come up with: 14. AEW All Out, 5th September 2020. 9. Matt Hardy vs. Sammy Guevara. AEW Full Gear, 7th November 2020 8. SANADA vs. Jack Perry. AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, 25th June 2023. 7. The Young Bucks vs. The Dark Order vs. Private Party vs. The Butcher and the Blade. AEW Dynamite, 21st October 2020. 1. Matt Hardy vs. Sammy Guevara. AEW All Out, 5th September 2020. --- I was so angry with the top two for how badly AEW handled Matt Hardy and Alex Reynolds KTFO. 2
stuntmanc Posted May 19, 2024 Posted May 19, 2024 I never thought to sit and put together a "Worst of" list, but my top one wouldn't necessarily be the worst AEW match, but it's the match that I personally think led to a lull in the company Hangman/CM Punk. The wrong person won, it was the worst match of Hangmans reign and we all know the chain of events it set off. My Punk bias is known, but i still genuinely can't imagine a reason other than "It's CM Punk" to put the belt on him. He's int he realm of wrestlers who doesn't need the belt to move and I'd argue that a win over Punk would've cemented Hangman even more and we'd possibly be looking back at him as the best AEW Champ in the company's history, instead of one of the best "chases" of all time. 9

It's rare I go the worst route, thought it be a change of pace. Yeah Page/Punk was the start of chain events happening with Punk getting injured, the gripe bomb, brawl out, cry me a river and getting fired. Edited May 19, 2024 by The Natural
The Natural Posted May 19, 2024 Posted May 19, 2024 We've had three AEW logos. https://th.bing.com/th/id/OIP.MPZyZa92LuHE94uk-gEoIgAAAA?dpr=1.3&pid=ImgDetMain First. https://d31xsmoz1lk3y3.cloudfront.net/big/2931548.jpg?v=1694643556 Second. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/77/All_Elite_Wrestling_logo_2024.svg/1024px-All_Elite_Wrestling_logo_2024.svg.png Third. First is still best for me with the grey border. Second the logo with the white border. The third, the 2024 is my least favourite. I miss the border and "All Elite Wrestling". 1 1

That's kinda the tough thing about 'worst ofs' - I feel like a match that was derailed by injury should be treated or looked at differently than one that just never clicks, or where someone's blown up, out of position, has an off night, is still green, whatever it may be (and though obviously shit happens, I do agree that those examples were pretty f'n egregious at the time) 1

If they had stopped the matches and gotten the injured parties appropriate attention immediately I doubt anybody would be nominating them as "worst ever". 3 1

Yeah, I was pissed at both matches continuing when you had two wrestlers who were clearly unconscious in Matt Hardy/Alex Reynolds. Both should have been stopped as their health were more important than a wrestling match. 1

No argument from me, I feel the same on both - I may have phrased it poorly with 'derailed by injury' I should've added like "...and how they were handled" or something. But by the same token, I think my original argument still stands because the injuries (and aftermath, as you guys note) are still things that happened outside the confines of what was laid out and/or being called. So to me, calling them the worst matches would be tantamount to saying a match sucked because a drunk fan hit the ring, or the live feed from the truck went out, or went to a PiP ad at a shitty time - it's something totally out of their control (though I would CERTAINLY entertain an argument re: the actual execution of whatever spot caused the injuries - but then youre getting into that 'gymnastics' territory a few of us were talking about recently). To put it another way: pretend we're Dave doing the year end awards; I think our disconnect is that I'm looking at the injuries/non-stoppage from a "most disgusting promotional tactic" standpoint, whereas you guys are looking at it more through a "worst worked match" lense (I hope that made sense - and if it didn't, well... this is why you've never seen a star rating from me lol) 1
Peck Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 Torn ACL and Meniscus for Eddie in addition to the broken bone in lower leg. 9

username Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 I haven't loved the last so many months of Kingston's in-ring work (and it kills me to say that) but this still is just awful. Also I still would like an answer as to how him and Kidd thought that spot was gonna go as I wouldn't even call this a fluke accident, more of a likely occurrence. 1

Zimbra Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 Ruby Soho and Angelo Parker got married over the weekend because THAT is how you commit to an angle. Plenty of pictures online if you'd like to see the roster in their Kohls finery. 2
Raziel Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 I didn't have them pegged as Folksy Farmhouse Chic types, but whatever works for them.
Curt McGirt Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 They must've already done the Psychobilly + Street Punk outfit pair for cosmic bowling or something. 1
Doragon Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 Per Fightful, Mark Henry's AEW contract ends this month. 1
